How to wash your Motorcycle
Washing your motorcycle not only makes it look good - it's good for it, and keeps dirt and grime from damaging paintwork and other components. In this short video I demonstrate how I wash my bikes, and some useful tools and products to help you get the job done quickly and efficiently. Also called on some good music to work to, from 'Emorie' and 'Fair Ye Well'

BMW motorcycle tank badge replacement
Переглядів 3,2 тис.Рік тому
I begin by reflecting on the vanity of BMW riders (including myself) before going through the process of removing an old tank badge from a 2011 BMW R1200R Classic and installing a new one. Tools required:- hairdryer, fishing line, rubbing alcohol, rag, and plastic or rubber levering tool.
I relented and bought a Garmin Zumo XT

After years of scoffing at specialist navigation devices for motorcycles, I finally relented and bought a Garmin Zumo XT. Very happy with it - it solves all the problems I was having using my phone for navigation on my motorcycle. In this video I explain the reasons behind my change of heart, and go through a couple of mounting options for the device - including an inexpensive RAM mount for the...

Magnificent countryside for motorcycling around the Queensland - New South Wales border region. A special ride for me - catching up with Toby - an old mate who I hadn't seen for decades. The guy who got me inspired into motorcycling over 30 years ago. And this trip together really delivered - spectacular riding country, forest, plains, windy roads and mountains - it had it all, even snakes. Tob...
Honda CB650R (2019) - new crankcase cover
Переглядів 21 тис.Рік тому
Tired of looking daily at a scratched right side engine casing on my commuting bike, I decided to purchase a brand new engine casing from Honda and substitute it onto my 2019 CB650R. It was a comparatively inexpensive process (parts and materials cost around AUD $120) and relatively straightforward mechanically, provided a few principles are followed. In this video, I document the successful re...

Chinese engine crash bars for a BMW R1200R? Installation guide and review
Переглядів 9 тис.2 роки тому
Have you wondered about the Chinese-made AliExpress engine crash bars? They're very reasonably-priced compared to competitors, but are they any good? I decided to investigate by ordering a set and installing on my 2011 BMW R1200R Classic. Here I run through the installation process (they arrived without instructions...) and give my impressions of them.

I want to say thank you!! I was doing shims on my CB500X and two of the shims went flying. I found one and not the other. I was unsure how to pull this side case off and so this video was extremely helpful. I still did not find the shim but this pretty much convinced me it is not in the engine as this was the only side it could be on. I always make a donation to charity when a video helps me save money, so I will be doing that once again. Thanks again Doug. Canada

I found the CB650R light, narrow and zippy for commuting. Good on fuel. Much prefer the suspension and size of my BMW R1200R for highway and touring, but its a big wide heavy bike and though I do commute on it now (have sold the CB650R for financial reasons), if commuting was all that I did, I would have kept the Honda!

Thanks! Yes - fuel strip stuffed so I just keep a track of fuel in tank via trip meter mileage. Have tried to 'zap' it, and other online cures, but problem eventually recurs. So, as soon as I get over 200 km or so, I keep an eye out for fuel stations. System works well - but can require some planning when country travelling in Australia due to large distances between fuel stops in some cases. Can push to over 300 km when on highway, but prefer not to. Thanks again, Don

Great video. I've had the 550, 660, 590LM, XT and I've ordered the XT2. What I really like about the devices is they are not compromised. They are designed to do one job and one job well. Particularly if you head into the mountains in Spain (or wherever), there'll be long stretches with no phone signal, the heat (or rain) can be intense and you need something you can rely on. Phones are also becoming less and less suitable for use on motorcycles as they continue to be more complex. Finally I love that when I'm out on my bike I don't have to look at my phone. I spend enough time on it already, it's nice to have it out of the way.

    • @donaldomoto

It's impossible to answer that question. It all depends on your mechanical skills and proficiency - if you're not mechanically inclined, then best leave it to a mechanic. But if you have the skills, tools and the right information, then its probably not a difficult job

Matt, good luck with it. It's now 6 months since I bought it and I'm still happy I did for the reasons mentioned in this vid. But, I haven't found the trip planning capability of the Garmin software/apps to be anywhere near as user-friendly as Google maps. That being said, getting a google maps-planned route onto your Garmin Zumo XT is not super intuitive. I have also got a Garmin Sumo XT that I mounted on my bike. I did not like the phone being open to the elements and vibration or even being taken. I did spend a bit more money on a mount that I got from Touratech. This actually locks the Garmin into the frame so that it can not be un clipped easy. There is also a Ram pin lock you can fit instead of the wing nut. This again gives extra security.
