Could this be ruining your horse's stops?

"To get a better stop, always back your horse up afterward." - That's the faulty advice we're commonly given in order to improve this maneuver. However, we want to talk a little about when and how to back your horse up and work on the stops in a way that gets your horse to WANT to try harder for you instead of dreading the moment you pick up on his face. Backing up after a stop can be a great t...

Thankyou so much, that was explained so well. Very organized.
I have always been into learning about western riding, because of how much it takes care about small details, but I am wondering why most of horses that are trained in western riding don’t give impression of seriousness when they walk, you can notice the horses are walking like if they didn’t sleep last night. I would really appreciate if you make a video on this subject?
@@Ahmed-cn4ei this comment cracked me up a little bit. 😅 The basic answer is that many western breeds have a foundation of cow horse blood. Back when horses had jobs and very specific purposes, it was very important for a cowboy's horse to be able to move slowly, keep their head low, stay calm in volatile situations, and not rustle up a herd of cows when they were moving through and working around them. Those stand out traits have been passed down and it's something we really admire and love about the modern Quarter Horse. It's not a lack of energy, or a "broken spirit" as many people think. It's a calm, calculated mount who waits on their rider for the next cue. On the contrary, many English riding breeds are built to do the exact opposite. They're fast, alert, explosive and elevated...because that's what was, and is, required of them to perform at their jobs both past and present. It's really neat to see how history has impacted our modern domesticated horse breeds! I still frequently start and ride jumping and dressage horses, so I truly appreciate each horse for their unique talents. This would be a great topic for a video though. Thanks!
Will try this. We going great in one direction but when i ask for the other direction she is going in wrong direction she goes great in. On ground i can get both but in saddle only one. To be clear we are incredibly new to this. Definitely take some tips
Nicely done! Your video and one other were key in helping me get my boy to load. Now I need help figuring out how to get him comfortable going down the road. He gets very nervous and sweaty.
HI.. I can't find part 3 of this video - has one been posted ?
I am learning much from you and I am a dressage rider. Same principles apply.
Such a helpful video!
Thanks. This is helpful.
Going to try it very good at making it understandable
Hello and ty for your video. I am working with a 12 year old horse who is only greenbroke as she was an arabian show horse. Then, prior to my purchasing her, she was a well taken care of pasture pet. I've been getting her in peak condition for the last year now and building that relationship. However, now that we have been in saddle for a few months, she picks up every move such as yields and even some dressage for fitness but she WONT FOLLOW HER NOSE AND JUST RIDE STRAIGHT UNTIL TOLD OTHERWISE! When we do, she begins to show her mare side. Like I said before, she is incredibly emotional and intelligent but she is relying on my instructions from saddle to the point she often trips for not watching her footing. Other days, she will NOT ride a straight line. Do you have any advice for this?
What is "softening the ribcage?"
That video deplicted my issue to a "T"....I went to a show and he was spooked by sunshine shining through a door onto the arena floor. I finished the pattern past that point. I have been thinking what I can do. Thank you
@@chexmy ua-cam.com/video/lnYHCmJURvY/v-deo.html Here's the full length video if you're interested.
Thank you. This was very helpful. The pulling backward after loading is the problem I’ve been dealing with.
Best video I’ve ever seen with info on these couple of scenarios.
Excellent video!
What's this horse's breeding? She could be the twin of my own mare!
Nicely done. Currently have a mare who came for trailer loading training. Her owner led her 3 miles on the county road to my place 😅. She’s great now but still doesn’t love the door being closed. Here’s hoping that will extinguish after many trips around the hill in the trailer. My own herd taught me loads of trips takes away all apprehension. So I don’t think people should get to loafing ok but forget to trailer routinely, even to the grocery store, to help the horse become really really comfortable.
Hello! I’m starting my first horse and saddled him for the first time and he did amazing and then I did jumping beside him and I can’t seem to get him to calm down with that. He just tenses up
Love this 😊
This was probably the most useful loading videos Iv ever seen. Thank you
Is there a part 2 for this?
@@rigamaroleBC it's coming! It was supposed to be posted a lot sooner, but part of the audio in it was completely gone, so I had to do a voice over and edit it all. Hence the delay.
This video is so helpful! Great job!

What age do you start your horses with these exercises?
I've got a 6yr brumby Mare, and she's very green she only knows the simple walk, trot, and canter. She shoulder drops and doesn't drop her head, speeds up without me asking, and is very disrespectful. I have tried fixing it but nothing seems to work. What do you think I should do?
The cinch is really unbalanced around the horse could be a reason he seems to be fussing?
I just want to say thank you thank you thank you! My horse would NOT get in the trailer. I worked for 5 days trying to get her in. I used this method today and got her in in 20 minutes. I still have to work on getting her to stay in while I close the divider, but she goes in!!! Please everyone, save your horse a lot of confusion and stress and use this method!
Why do have a bosal and a nasty leverage bit on the horse at the same time?? That makes no sense..
It really helps
Can you comment regarding your opinion on keeping the horse straight when doing this or even a slight counter bend? I accidentally stumbled onto doing this and it seemed to help. Earlier in her training she would really fall in on her left shoulder, but a very slight counter bend she would stay more upright.
@@juliefranck8510 so to clarify, you were traveling left, and she was dropping the left shoulder in, so you pushed the shoulder into a left counter bend even more? Just want to understand the picture before I answer your question. Thanks.
I watched a few of your videos on neck reining as well and you had a similar concept of “setting the horse up” and then “pushing them through” the maneuver. Before watching your videos I never realized how important the “setup” is. Working with your methods has been a complete game changer for my gelding and I! Thank you so much for putting out content like this and explaining yourself so well. I can always count on you to never leave out a detail 😁
Thanks so much for the feedback. Really happy that these videos have been helpful!
Congratulations, somehow you’ve perfectly captured the online equestrian community in less than 7 minutes 😂
😂
I appreciate your video! Thank you for sharing this.
Great information, thank you!
This is a classic case where a horse hasn’t had the chance to bond with people she’s nervous and only language she knows is horse body language . With ground work and patience any horse can be a pleasure to work with ❤
Thanks for not scraping the video lol. It is super important to know what really goes into a made horse.
If the horse is drifting in along the straight line (leaning in towards the middle while going along the long straight, what would the reins need to be doing? Would you simply keep the nose on the straight line and use the leg to keep the horse out?
You had your priorities correct, that says a lot about people/ UA-camrs 👍
Thanks
