Our counters are the same as the backsplash but the backsplash only goes up 8 inches beside the wall behind the stove which goes all the way up to the cabinets. I am uncertain what to do. I wish it went up to the cabinet. What can we do to the gap between the backsplash and cabinets?

I still like white kitchens because wood tones change from light to mid tone to dark and back. White cabinets stay white. However, although my cabinets are white, my walls and accessories have a lot of color.

White is still best. A pop of neutral colors/warm colors.

Thanks for all the tips! Jusr moved in a 1950s small house with a small galley kitchen. All the walls in the home were painted alabaster SW. The kitchen only has cabinets on one side. They are older white color which actually looks closer to the alabaster. Im in thr planning stages of figuring out what i want, but i do want timeless, bright, neutral, natural. I can add pops of color. Flooring is an wide dark brown tile and i hsve the granite countertops. I can't see anything on them. Lol! I like a plain, almost solid color beige top or whitish top. For now, ill just spend the winter painting my current cabinets bright white. Then figure out if i can keep any of the older cabinets and just change out thr doors maybe while deciding on installing cabinets on the opposite side where the stove is. I'll probably do the over the stove microwave when i get to that side since counter space is limited. Thanks for the video, i subscribed to get more ideas. Im probably 3 years away from doing it unless i can do parts along the way.

I feel that whatever you choose needs to match the style of your home. For instance, I live in a log home which in my opinion, all white cabinets would look appalling in. Totally out of place. However, I love white cabinets in the right setting such as a farmhouse style of home. Cottage style homes look beautiful with painted cabinets in various colors. Though true it's all about what you love, unless it's your forever home, you should always keep resale value in mind when remodeling. Classic style never goes out of style, whereas trends tend to come and go very quickly, and who can afford to remodel every few years to keep up with the trends? Consider the style of your home and what would appeal to a sellers market when investing in remodeling.

I don’t want a trendy kitchen - I can’t be spending that much money every few years. These magazines and suppliers have to have something different to sell or they go out of business. You said it “the trend” which means it will be out of style soon. A white kitchen can be decorated so many ways and not so expensively. I love Alabaster or Snowbound by Sherwin Williams I remember when I SO wanted granite in my kitchen. Didn’t ever put it in….now it is “out”. Now, after seeing so many styles come and go, I believe design in kitchens will always be changing!!! I’m getting ready to redesign my kitchen this coming year…. Hi Penny, could you please come up with clips for clean, simple, and functional design? I don't really like to spend a lot of time dusting, cleaning, and maintaining pieces that don't have functions inside my house. I like your explanation and dupe pieces in your several clips.

Before you spend money ripping out your cabinets, paint a section. We did and now love the look. Saved thousands. My other suggestion is to keep your kitchen budget within the appropriate range for the value of your home. Over investing looks silly.

I’m sticking with my all white. I have a cottage and it just looks so good. I honestly don’t think white will ever go out of style even though the designers want to convince us it is year after year…

Happy to hear natural woods and color is coming back - as I'm so tired of the white color everywhere. I have my original natural color maple cabinets and I would never paint them. Personally I do not care for excessive open shelves and numerous glass front cabinets. I prefer my beautiful natural pine glass hutch for display pieces.

I’ve always thought all white kitchens are a poor design choice. Kitchens are about cooking, which is about inviting the fire element, thus warm colors that promote a feeling of health and well being are mandatory. All white kitchens make me feel like I’m dying in a hospital.

Instead of buying accent pieces such as a vase from a design store, try looking to the past. There are great buys in American Art Pottery from the early 1900’s through 1950’s for brands such as Roseville, Rookwood, Van Briggle and others that relate to organic and eclectic design.

These reviews should rip open the unit(s) and show the guts/ heart of what really makes the refrigerator unit - the compressor(s). On our second Bosch failure now in 9 years. All these manufacturers make everything look nice and shiny and feature rich, but stick garbage chinese parts in the heart and core of the unit(s) rendering them low-life spans and useless after just a few years.

I have had flat and shaker front cabinets and think are both great and neither date. I have had wood and champagne cabinets that I do not think date but colours do IMO

We have a fairly new champagne coloured kitchen with black quartz counters and a mosaic metal; crystal; black ceramic small tile splash back after an oak shaker style. I don’t care what is in or out - i think my new kitchen is awesome.

Adding my responses to your questions in comments. - Natural Wood cabinets ALWAYS - Veined Quartzite countertops that continue up backsplash. I never liked quartz and went to natural quartzite instead - if your countertop looks good and is high quality, vein-match and make it waterfall. It’s slick, strong, easy to clean and dramatic! If it’s an apartment grade plain old quartz, don’t. - I absolutely hate cluttered countertops. So, Appliance garages and close able breakfast and coffee bars are BOSS. So easy to organize and keep the countertops clean. I clean them out every other week and thats been enough to keep my kitchen ready for company any day of the week. - dont do patterns or reliefs on permanent features like tiles. Most people want their kitchen upgrade to look good at least 10y becuse it ain’t cheap. I kept my quartzite simple and neutral to match my fabulous rift cut white oak cabinets. I did swap out the $15 chair covers and towels from the block prints to something more “biological” to keep the kitchen updated with the trends. Small changes in color and patterns was enough for people to notice and like. - I took out cabinets on side of my kitchen and put in a giant window looking into a pretty part of the yard - not open shelves. To make up, I took my cabinets all the way up to the ceiling and rearranged how I organize things so I don’t need the step stool frequently. I use it maybe once or twice a month and that’s a great tradeoff for the gains in light and “openness”.

My lower rack weld broke - left side -- it is difficult to roll in to dishwasher when rack is full. They required images and said they would mail me a replacement.

This is a sham. Decorators, designers, furniture companies, design podcasts… must change things up every year or so. This is how they make their money. Rich people can afford to change out their white cabinets, light floors, curved furniture, paint,… We’re tired of it all.

I like the new high end trend of the no kitchen look. It features frameless cabinets without hardware, in beautiful woods and matching panels on all appliances. The countertops are large sleek islands with subdued stone or marble. This really integrates so beautifully with open concept modern.

Disagree with your view of backlit mirrors, they are super practical. I’ve had mine for over 10 years and it’s never once needed fixing. It also heats the mirror which helps rapidly demist the mirror after a shower.
