I loved how you produced this video! It was succinct, practical, and not snobbish!! The only trend I disagree with using is the free standing tub. We just did a remodel and were shocked at the cost of those tubs, along with the additional fussy plumbing fixtures, plumber labor, tile costs around the tub, and they need so much water to even fill them halfway. I have also tried to bathe little kids in a friend’s tub and they are super impractical for that! We opted for a simple, more typical tub that we enclosed on the outside with tile. No regrets! 🛀🏼 😊
Agree on the standalone tubs. Too hard to clean around and a huge safety hazard to get out of, especially if you are older (and worse if you add in short and inflexible like me 🙂).
My favorite thing to put into a homeowner designed bathroom is a wall mounted toilet. Cleaning around a floor mounted toilet is the hardest and least rewarding job of maintaining a bathroom.
I have 1968 wall mount toilets. I replaced one 15 years ago but they are extremely expensive compared to regular toilets. I wish I had regular toilets I could replace for 100$ instead of 1,000$. It’s way too expensive to change the plumbing to change so I’m stuck with it.
thanks for the video. i always learn something when i watch various content providers. i just remodeled my small windowless bathroom. i went with neutrals, but decided to use light green ceramic vertical tiles in the walk in shower. looks great! i also went with a floating vanity and so far, so good!!
I actually agree with you. We did the research on tubs before we installed and good thing we did. We would have put in a jetted tub, but realized the ongoing maintenance was an issue. I got rid of open shelving the previous owner did because it was cheap and it looked terrible. We put in lovely cabinets and have no regrets. We were careful to stay away from slick bathroom tiles on the floors - my father broke his tail bone in a slip and fall accident because of that stupid design.
I cannot wait to change my cabinet sink to a pedestal sink! Will give us so much more visual space in our bathroom. We have a large closet in my bathroom for all the things. I came from an apartment with a double sink bathroom to a home with a smaller 1950s size bathroom. I dont miss the counter space at all. I actually dont like all the things out because bathrooms arent the most sanitary place no matter how often you clean it.
I agree 100% on the hanging cabinets.... it's less space to store items AND it's more floor to clean. same with those 'open shelves' underneath a sink - just more to dust. I will likely have a shiny floor (we are preparing to renovate the master bath) .... hubby and I always wear house shoes so slipping is very unlikely.... and, I want shiny (porcelain - yes) walls in the shower to match. I will consider a duller floor, but we are likely to go shiny to match. our guest bathroom has a nice non-slip floor for guests. :-)
Very good advice. I have polished nickel and LOVE it. But, it is not inexpensive (unfortunately). Personally, if on a budget. I would go for chrome. The plating process is much better then in the past and the fixtures are much less expensive. Be careful with large format tiles, they can have a commercial appearance. I prefer 8x10, 10x12 etc sizes. They are large enough to make cleaning easy but still create a personal feel. I agree with other commenters about grey colored bathrooms. Opt instead for a warm griege tone. The mix of grey and beige is a modern look without the cold look of a true grey.
Several good ideas here, but I wish there was some discussion about colors that are flattering to skin tones, rather than show trendy colors and modern lines. I saw a few examples of warmer whites, but no discussion on how a paint color can make you feel better about who you see in your mirror every morning! Gray isn’t one of them!
I have had a Wall Hung Vanity in my master bathroom for 12 years. I love it and have had dozens of compliments on it. I also have a linen closet in my bathroom as most folks! So I don't rely of just my vanity for storage, even though it gives me a very good amount. I am getting ready to do an update of paint, a new floor and I will paint my Wall Hung Vanity a new deep color to contrast my light color walls. In addition, you say "Don't install a wall hung vanity, you'll regret it. It's just a trend." Well, I've had mine for 12 years with a beautiful 6-inch-thick white ceramic top that cleans so well and easy. I included a beautiful single hole chrome faucet, which I will replace with another chrome faucet. I DO NOT agree that wall hung vanities are a trend. Another point, do you even realize after you tell everyone do not install wall hung vanities, at least 1/2 of all the photos of bathrooms you were kind enough to share with us were All Wall Hung Vanities! At the end, with your 3 tips, also FULL of Wall Hung Vanities!!! I think you should review all of your content before advising the WRONG ADVICE to the public!
@philipmullins5185 I didn't post that I didn't like cool or warm colors. I posted that I don't like Grey because it is trite and outdated. Read with comprehension and not make irrelevant comments and or speculation on my tastes or knowledge of design and or the color wheel.
@@Truthms-m3r Sounds like snobbery over common sense , grey and white and green and white combined very well , beige and white and browns and white don't combined very well. @philipmullins5185 sounds like ignorance over common sense. You pick an argument with a total stranger over a color preference and someone else's blog. I wondered why a man would be so offended by my preference, but you've shown me all that I need to know from your childish responses.
New subscriber❤ So much good info! Achhhh. I hate stone. Period. Everything breaks when it falls over. And i already have a no glass in the bathroom rule!! 😅
Disagree with your view of backlit mirrors, they are super practical. I’ve had mine for over 10 years and it’s never once needed fixing. It also heats the mirror which helps rapidly demist the mirror after a shower.
Chrome will out last all the other materials in a bathroom. Hard water spots on all other surfaces will be destroyed in a few years but chrome can be cleaned with 0000 fine steal wool. Bathrooms go to crap very fast if you can’t keep things clean. Natural stone in a shower is another stupid choice.
Hi Penny. Great video. I love the floating vanities - I managed to get a lot of space in my new floating vanities by making them float 10”. They are still very roomy and it’s easy to clean the floors. The little floating vanities are too small for sure and I very much agree with that. I was wondering what you think of finger or edge pulls? I’ve seen lots of pics of them on shaker cabinets and it looks so nice and minimal - but is it timeless? Or dated? I guess I’m just so tired of handles all over the kitchen. lol. Anyway, would love to know your thoughts. Thanks.
Agree with most of what you are saying HOWEVER washlet toilets are amazing & the more they do the better. (Of course, I'm so spoiled now I'm put out when I have to lift the lid myself LOL) But they are truly wonderful (at least to me). Thank you for taking the time to educate us on Bathroom Trends! It's much appreciated. #TeamNeutral or #TeamWhiteBathroom > with white you can add color through flowers or towels & if you want bigger changes simply changing the faucets can help. Many hugs, Z.
Every bathroom in the video was bigger than my living room! I think people go over the top with everything. You don't need two sinks or more than one showerhead. I can't think of anything worse than someone brushing their teeth and spitting next to me! 😝 I like to keep everything hidden in cupboards and just have bubble bath in a posh bottle and shower gel on the bath and hand soap on the sink. Neutral and classic is best, not gimmicky. 😊
Please don’t say gray is a timeless or neutral color! It looks so outdated! And builders/remodelers must have gotten a great deal on gray flooring because it’s everywhere too. It looks cheap and artificial. The only thing worse is when you walk into a house that has both the walls and the floors in gray. A house of gloom.
When I lived in very cold cities, I found warm colors make me feel more comfortable in areas such as bathrooms and colors such as pure white made me feel colder, the opposite occurred when I have lived in very hot cities, I didn't prefer very warm colors but preferred cool colors such as pure white as it gave me a more cooling feeling The word dated is a very much over used word. The bottom line is choosing colors where the owners feel comfortable with their choices as they will be spending far more time living there than visitors usually.
Those stand alone tubs are awful for anyone 5ft 9 and up. I feel like a little kid sitting in a big bucket. Personally, I don't want a big bright light hanging over my head while I'm relaxing in the bath.
I come from an era when we did not have enough water. We caught rainwater from the roof and stored it in a leaky concrete tank. We had converse water all the time. I still can't fill the bath too much, so spa and deep baths are not for me. Too much water and it takes ages to fill
I feel like timeless is just a fancy work for boring. Who actually wants to live in a boring greyge (grey beige) bathroom with boring vanities and boring counters? Following trends is a bad idea, but design can be creative and elegant without being dull.
Unless you have Rock that is gray or maybe the gray is closer to a cream/whitish tone. That color will not stand the test of time. The one in the video will NOT stand the test of time. I can't believe people paint their house with that. It looks cold when it's a medium lifeless gray with no direction void of any other color. Look at European paint colors because those are timeless. Maybe only my opinion but I hate medium Gray.
Why would anyone be opening their vanity with wet hands? Why wouldn't you use the hand towel to dry your hands before opening it? It would be just as weird and inconvenient to open a floating vanity or handleless vanity with wet hands as it would be to open a traditional vanity with wet hands. Opening cabinets before drying hands just isn't a real issue anyone is running into on any sort of regular basis, if at all. I don't want to come across like I'm attacking you, but I don't think that one was thought through.
Deep soaking tubs are stylish right now but already on the way out...going the way of mint-green-and-almond porcelain. They're harder to get in and out of. One sometimes needs a wobbly stool. Necessarily exposed plumbing is unsightly. At least a jetted tub can be therapeutic.

Backlit mirrors in bathrooms are lovely and elevate a space! They are not intended to be the primary source of light and enhance the aesthetic and mood of the room.
My house has gray walls and a dark gray floor. It doesn't look awful or horrible. Its all in how it is done. My house is modern chic and anything but blah
Just remember natural stone marble and man-made stone have silica, which is a health issue in manufacturing. So try to find material that in manufacturing is looking after the workers. Just think, a beautiful bathroom could be lined with dead bodies
Only a health issue if the proper PPE isn’t worn, or worn improperly. Don’t spread unnecessary misinformation on subjects you’re not familiar with. Clearly you’re not familiar with how marble and granite are manufactured either.

I’m starting to feel that way about brushed nickel. Chrome can feel cheap but if you pick a timeless style it can certainly last a long time!
