    Which (if any) dual sport bikes do you have as of Jan 2025?

    • @chasingtrail
      @chasingtrail 17 днів тому

      None. Only motorcycle I currently own is a Harley-Davidson CVO Pan America. I'm sure I'll own another dual sport someday, but I barely have time to ride one motorcycle these days let alone 2.

    Not sure how I overlooked and didn't see this video on your channel. It's exactly what I needed to see! I contemplated a CRF 300L Rally earlier this year, mainly because I wanted a mellow dual sport that had fuel injection. Prior to that I contemplated a KLX300. By "mellow" I mean something more suited for long, all day rides on forest service roads, which had longer maintenance intervals than my 450 EXC-F. I gave up on both because I had this gut feeling that a 300 would disappoint me compared to a DR-Z, which I've owned for 18 years. By late summer I thought I would hold out and see what Suzuki does with the DR-Z for 2025. Then Suzuki announced the DR-Z4S in November of 2024. I'm glad I waited!

    What you have to appreciate the GS for are the memories and experiences it will provide. Unlike the moving truck you describe, I look at my GS as my inanimate partner that allows me to take extended trips at least twice annually; and it does it better than any other motorcycle I've owned. For that, I appreciate it and regard owning it very fondly. Like any quality tool, it performs its function as it's expected to do. What more can you expect!

  • @leveneziadvm

    You made the right decision in my opinion. I have both the 2019 GS 1250 and 2020 HD softail Slim. I love them both. I had no issues with the purchase of either bikes but the ride is night and day. The Bro culture of the HD is appealing sometimes and the nostalgic looks of the Slim as well as its simple, mechanical construction fits my persona. It looks like I think a motorcycle should look. For versatility and performance, the GS wins hands down in my opinion. You'll see that its looks will grow on you and become attractive. It wins hands down on a long ride, dirt road, moving around the garage, maneuverability and I love the center stand. I'm lucky to have both and I think with the motorcycle market the way it is right now, you'll find the HD dealers much more accommodating. The scheming market ploys of the HD dealers have always irritated me but have been going on since the turn of this century.

    As a 390 owner best advice if you buy one drop to 14 tooth in the front and absolutely ride the bike like u stole it . Keep the revs up the lc4 loves to be punished. And you are right once the break in is over it’s a different animal. Came of a KLR and this bike is ten fold better in every aspect

      For going uphill through technical terrain I prefer the 300 2-stroke. It was just much easier for me to get up the challenging stuff. Going down though was another story, as I grew up riding 4-strokes, and I really like having engine braking when going downhill.

    I haven’t watched your videos in quite a while. I’ve had a DRZ since 2006. Probably the last time I watched your videos and commented was under my other YT account - Delta Bravo, which would have been over a year ago. Earlier this year I contemplated buying a KLX300. My gut feeling said it would be too gutless from what I’m used to with a DRZ. The seating position was a bit cramped compared to my DRZ. Later in the summer I got the idea of a CRF300L Rally, but common sense prevailed and I figured it would also be too gutless, and the suspension too soft. Every time I look at FB marketplace or Craigslist, I find a few low mileage DRZs that are 4-8 years old. I’ve got my name on a 2025 DR-Z4S at my local dealer up here in Washington.

      Nice! I haven't made any videos in quite a while, don't feel I have much to offer without constantly going through bikes. I'm very curious to hear how you like the new DRZ. Had they given it a 6th gear, I reckon it would be close to unicorn status, but should be good enough for most mortals anyway. I'm sure I'll own another someday.

    • @chasingtrail
      @chasingtrail 3 місяці тому

      I go through a lot of bikes. I needed cash at the time. I would say the 430 is probably not the best for tractoring. It's more mid range, though I haven't ridden the other models. This is based on anecdotal feedback I gathered. The general consensus I gathered was 350 for tight stuff, 390 for tractoring, 430 for racing/mid range, 500 for dual sport. I have a buddy selling his 2022 430 with less than 10 hours on it in Anderson, CA. He had it listed for a while but Beta suffers from lack of brand recognition. Everyone around here wants KTMs. If you're interested I could get you his info, prob several thousand less than a new one and it's basically a new bike.

    • @ridemfast7625
      @ridemfast7625 3 місяці тому

      @@chasingtrail Like most, been looking at 500/501. On FB Marketplace in the Bay Area is a 2023 430rrs almost new for only $7,500, lowered from $9,500. Very tempted. If it were a 500 I'd take a chance with Beta. Ride a 701 and that bike tractors better than my Kubota! Want to keep the 701 and get a lighter DSport.

    • @chasingtrail
      @chasingtrail 3 місяці тому

      @@ridemfast7625 If you know you're going to keep it a while I'd get a Beta over a newer KTM. It's no less of a bike imo. The biggest issue with them is resale value. People just don't know the brand like KTM. $7,500 for a 2023 is a great price. The 2024 KTMs run properly out of the box, which can't be said for previous models, but the new fuel pump location is terrible for dual sport use. If only riding off-road it's not as much of an issue. My next dual sport will be a 690/701. I rode one briefly and was really impressed how good it felt on the street. I've ridden enough black diamond single track to know that's not really my thing. Most of the guys around here live for that hard enduro stuff though. They also like not having to worry about quads and SxS on those trails. I'd show up with cash and get a test ride on that 430 for $7,500. Worth a look before spending the extra cash on KTM/Husky (again, if you intend to keep it).

    A carbed bike feels different because a carburetor is organic, it is not trying to emulate something else like a fuel injected system is. Fuel injection is trying to do what a carburetor does organically, and it's never quite right. Just like a sampled musical instrument isn't quite the same as the real thing, if you listen closely you can tell that something is off, something is not quite right, and this is how it is between fuel injection and carburetors, the fuel injection just isn't quite right in it's electronic sampling of the real thing.

    INTENT -n- CO$Ts are the two mitigating factors in buying a bike and most people do not know what their intent is until after they've ridden for a while. The fact of the matter is, you can take whatever bike ya got & make it do the chore in front of you. I'm saving for a 1st bike since the 90's right now & so I've got a list of bikes, all are dual sports, and I've even got lists of all the mods I'd want to do to each of those bikes. Both the DRz & Honda 300L are on my lists. The Rally version of 300L and the 6th gear along w/ larger gas tank are just some of my reasons for liking it. Any bike from the Japanese builders I'd be trusting to last a long time. The DRz/DR650 are both great bikes, the carbs do not bother me at all & in a way the less computer crap on a bike, the better should there be a problem. BUT I'm here evaluating stuff so TY for the videos.

      Well, with a Channel Titled "ChasingTrail".... Umm, kinda descriptive but it makes no matter. A lot of channels do exactly what you have but mostly to create more content. "Intent to create Content" ! Yeah, that's what it is but it's alright since having a channel allows for you to actually discover yourself all the way across the gambit..... Nevertheless, you just got 2 of the 8-10 bikes I'm researching so it was a double whammy for me & you riding a longer time allows me me to ask all sorts of stuff & know I'm getting reasonable answers. Kudo's for that & I've still got 2-3 months before I'll be able to buy = more time to get to know all the bikes & what I can expect in Mods after the purchase. I've not met anyone who's looking post-purchase far enough to know what those mods cost. Anyhoo, ty for the vids, I'll be around. peace

That is actually what my local dealer quoted me, however that is with every fee imaginable and I haven't started negotiating with them yet. Just wondering if you were able to talk them down any from that original quote? Thanks.

      @@chasingtrailthat’s an awesome price. Congrats. I’d be stoked if I can pick one of these up for $26k otd. I’m definitely going to use that amount as a negotiating benchmark so thank you.

    Earthing.... run a 3 to 1 earth wire from starter, the coils earth and block and go back to the negative on battery

      I wish I understood any of what you said. What is earthing? What exactly is a 3 to 1 earth wire? Where and what are the ‘coils earth’? New to this sorry

      I get it now, grounding. Never heard it called that before. Run one from the starter’s ground, the coils ground, the block, all to the negative battery terminal correct?

    It shouldn't have a low speed fueling issue POST flash. I'd send it back and have them fix it, that's the problem with the mail in flashing.

      You upgraded, nice Talon! Right as you come into French Gulch, turn left on French Gulch Rd. A little way down it turns to dirt, and a little after this is this staging area we started at. Pretty easy to get to!

A bit toasty days for awhile.
