I created this video with the UA-cam Video Editor (ua-cam.com/users/editor)
I am currently looking at a 450 sxv, and im curious if it has different failures and things like the 550
owned for 10 years i call it my 1980s ferrari ,running motul 300v 15/50 in engine and box ,no engine wear no cam wear
How would this do on a 30 minute highway ride?
Predator with maybe a stage 1 and pipe on it ~7HP - if it was a jackshaft it would of been even with the kart. If the kart had the 149cc I think those are around ~8-10HP but has way more weight. Still an interesting comparison imo, I started with a 212 bike and when I started looking at a kart for the kids went straight for the 250cc one since they are used to those speeds. I want something that will be used and not discarded bc its not fun.
You think it'd dit a ktm 890 engine just un case I blow it, thunking of getting better one, but don't know how the previous owner treates it....
Try again man, youre works were lacking you that day
Went from a KTM 660 years ago and just picked up an 07 SXV 450 today! Wish me luck
what seat is that on you sxv? they still avail be anywhere I like it. thanks
Can you put a aftermarket pipe on that bike and if so can you remap the fuel management
Yes there's a bunch of aftermarket exhaust options. I have a full Silmoto titanium RXV/Enduro exhaust on mine. There's also a free software called XV Tuner that allows anyone with a PC to tune these bikes. You just need a special cable to interface between the laptop and bike.
Yes and yes
@@jwwerner32 J if they are asking, then they dont know….. terry dont do anything to take a risk without telling me when I can get my new 550 from XD
How’s this motor holding up?
What wheels are you using? I can turn adapters and all taht but didnt find Info
where did you get the carbon parts?
one used in my area is 11k... as much as i really want this bike im not spending 11k on a used one.
I almost pulled the trigger on a very low miles 08 RXS. But after reading community horror stories and an Aprilia dealer telling me that parts are impossible to get i walked back. I will save some more for a 501FE
I wouldn't buy one now unless it had very low miles on a Noland rebuild. They can't be rebuilt anymore due to parts availability, so they're all destined to become paper weights eventually.
Hey man! What happens if you got too much oil in,like a quarter above max???
And if you do find small particals in oil filter, this means you have to say buy,buy to the engine??
I like your video gives everybody inside of really how to maintain this bike and they are bad ass the nastiest supermodel ever made. Someday I might buy one.
Only bike that simply walked right past my Husaberg 650 on the straights at the track. Plus, the priller is so damned pretty. Never owned one because piaggio (parts) and the service intervals were brutal. I can only imagine what a rebuild costs . . . cringe! Great video!
if i do catch can, i cant over fill? just buy 2007 450 and look manuel... overfiled run about 100 km, air box get oil, its bad?
or i need do both catcher and that line like you?
Looking into picking one of these up. Any way I can reach out to pick your brain a little
Good stuff, thank you. I'm looking at getting one of these, what can you tell me about the suspension and brakes? Thanks in advance
So true i bought one like 3 weeks ago and it is suuuper fast and sounds beautiful
take care of it, hard to find some parts for them at the moment. if your con rod bearing goes to shit. they dont make new ones
Video coming in the future?
Hey man. Just bought one of these bikes myself and I have a lot of questions. Anyway I could get in touch with you?
Ya man sorry I just saw this but you can leave your number and I’ll give ya a call if you still need advise
Best bit of info on this bike iv ever seen Alwyas wanted one of these and they are finally becoming cheap in Australia so thinking about one as my second bike
Great video 😁iam trying to buy my first ever 550 sxv already have a husqvarna 701 supermoto ,I've been that they are hard to start when it's below 10 degrees
My friend purchased the first one here in New Zealand when it came out. The engine grenaded at 50 kilometers on the odometer. Something to do with the factory using the incorrect case sealant. When he got it fixed I was luckily enough to ride it and damn what a weapon. I don't know if I'd own one knowing how temperamental they are but awesome machine and the styling especially the first models was so great.
Been eyeballing a 2007 RXV550. What's the difference between the two?
RVX is the Enduro version. Subtle difference with gear ratios, suspension, tyres, swing arm and mapping etc.
Thank you for making the video
I've had an '08 for 5 years now. Winter starting has always been an issue. I recently had the flywheel bolts wind out and chew out the windings. So I've gotta strip and inspect the engine for other damage. These are a competition bike, not a cruiser. I change oil every 500km. But without doubt the SXV is one of the most fun toys I've owned.
Bro we need more vid
Had one for 2 years and 4000 miles. It’s a awesome to drive but I dropped $3000 on a motor rebuild to corrects the cases but they are maintenance nightmare and WOW the cost of parts has skyrocketed. Change the oil every 500 miles, don’t ask just do it. Plan on installing a new starter each year.
You need to get your SXV tuned properly. I've never replaced a starter in 10 years of owning my 550. Allen tuned my bike when he rebuilt my motor. It'll idle without chattering at 1,600 rpm once warm.
Thanx man, great info, valuable info, just about to purchase the Rxv550. Appreciate your vid.
No problem. Now I know a lot more info so a new video is coming soon
Who did the rebuild for you?
Paul Calvert
@@p20dirtrider damn man, how much did it cost to ship the engine over to the UK and back? Genuinely curious as I'll need to do the same at some point once mine arrives from the UK
@@bmwm3man it expensive. DHL got it done in a week and it was about 750$ in total there and back
@@p20dirtrider oh that's decent man. I was expecting like 1500 USD or something. $750 is definitely doable. Did you put the engine back in yourself or get a mechanic to do it for you?
@@bmwm3man if your mechanical then you will probably be fine. When I removed the engine I left as much hanging in place as possible. Take pictures or a video also so you have a good idea of how it was in prior. I have a small hoist and hung it from my garage ceiling and that helped out. Also having a second pair of hands when putting the engine bolts back in would be nice. All and all you have to take your time and go slow. There's a ton of connections and hoses that you don't want to forget to tighten. Also I replaced old fuel lines while I was in there. Overall I did it in under two days/about 10 hours Total
looking forward to the video man
Omg yuck 🤢
Where do I track down the updated tune? I have the 08 rxv 550, burning thru starters
Get the xv tuner cable of eBay or join the Facebook page to buy one
Quindi non ė vero che ha tutti questi problemi???
ive owned one for about 7 years , coolest bike ever created in my opinion . its a little moody at times but as long as you are on top of the maintnance its pretty reliable .. for an Italian bike
What maintenance interval of some typical service items you would recommend?
Where is the guy who can do the motors located? And how much does he charge about? And how to contact him?
Unfortunately he actually made a mistake on my engine and the fly wheel bolts came loose, no locktite was applied. Anyway he's retired now from Aprilia. Your best bet is a guy in the UK. His name is Paul cal Calvert. He just rebuilt mine. Very good price but shipping can be expensive. Total with shipping was 2800
Thats a bad machine
What year model is the SXV 550? The bike looks awesome.
Mine is a 2007, I'm gonna do a much more informative update soon
@@p20dirtrider I am thinking of buying a 2006 RXV 550 and turn it into a Supermotard. I know that I will have to get the seals check as this is an issue with the earlier models. Last question, how does the bike feel as you rev-up say from 2000 RPM through to 4000RPM. Is it linear, that is is it a smooth acceleration or do you find like on my Ducati Hypermotard 939 that it is abrupt, mainly due to the EU emissions exhaust control. Much Appreciated
@@arthurbalado6022 so the power of the bike can be very usable but that's dependent on your tune, gearing and also the cam on the throttle it's self. Also the bike is a rever and doesn't like anything under 4500 unless at idle
@@p20dirtrider Many thanks for the feedback Champ. The reason that I asked was that I like a bike that is smooth on the throttle, specially for Moto Gymkhana. Here is a link of what these riders can do in the rain. ua-cam.com/video/0V9GVXydp3c/v-deo.html Check it out it is simply awesome. Thanks once again
great video man. I am in love with this bike from the first time i heard it revving and that over 8 years ago. I had a few ktm like the 640 lc4 and the duke 690 because i was scared to go for the "problematic" sxv. I thinking of getting one now and its a 2000kms 2008 excellent condition bike. Is it true that they fixed the problems you are talking about after 2008?
So they solved pretty much all the issues but now parts availability is getting my scarce. In my opinion it's still worth having one for joy rides but not commuting. I'm going to be making a new video soon explaining some things I wish I knew now after a year or so of owner ship.
2000 km's doesn't mean anything, it should be torn apart anyway. You can get it if you know a mechanic that knows this bike, not just a dude that knows bikes, but this bike specifically. Parts are hard to come by. There are many know-how's that will take hundreds of hours to learn and thousands of dollars if you don't. Plenty of places to screw up even during basic maintenance. If you have time and patience (and money) then it's truly amazing and epic bike
Aprilia lovely bike Nasty 🔥
The biggest anxiety I have with owning mine is starting cold . . thats the only thing !
If I were you I would pull off your stator cover and check the fly wheel Alan bolts to make sure they are all torqued. Mine came on done and bolts went into my stator and basically destroyed my perfectly good running bike because copper went everywhere
@@p20dirtrider same happened to me few years ago, it's a common fault. Torque or glue them them all you want, they will come loose, just punch in edges of bolts so they cannot rotate. If anyone is reading this and hasn't done it already - do it, takes 20 mins tops, way faster and cheaper than rebuilding the engine
@@p20dirtrider just happened to me. Engine is out now
Do you recommend this bike as a daily??
So I would not recommend it as a daily commuter. It's not because the bike is incapable of being reliable. It's more due to the nature of the current parts available for it. They are becoming hard to find. Also if it's stop and go traffic your bikes going to be getting very hot and that's not good for it. With that said I ride my bike almost every weekend and have put about 1000 miles on it with basically no issues at all.
@@p20dirtrider ok thank you very much
Just asking, but why would you never take it on a Long ride?
I mean long can be interpreted in many ways but for example I take a couple trips up to the mountains every year and do about 200-300 miles over a weekend. That to me is a long ride and not ideal for this bike because of the amount of fuel it holds lol but I wouldn't want to ride anything else.
They're uncomfortable as s..t when cruising. They're not at all economical.
Sound video please! I miss my RSV4 and this has always been a unicorn for me solely based on the sound and power.
My rat GATTTA GOW FAT
I miss my 08. Badass Bike. I put an NRG Quickshifter on it. Stay away from the o6-07 models.
At this point in the game if you find a Aprilia sxv 550 of any year it's most likely been rebuilt and resealed the correct way or it's blown up lol. Either way once the work is done every model is just about the same and it doesn't make a difference. Unless of course your buying it and it's never been touched it will need work forsure.
