RoundUp! is a new game I wrote for the TRS-80 Microcomputer. It runs on a Model I, Model III or Model 4. RoundUp! will be on sale soon! The first release will be on cassette in true Radio Shack style retro packaging, but it will also include digital versions so you can easily run it with your FreHD, MISE, HxC. etc. or even with your favorite emulator.

    I have many old and pricey instruments what came with short or popped AC filter caps. These components are all fail cause of mechanical stress by AC and susppressed peaks. The insulator and epoxy fill olso aged and loosed so the normal ac load is can make the capacitor to fail.

    Since the Zilog Z80 does not have a protected mode it would be interesting to see how a "protected mode" is added, unfortunately the schematics are not for the public to see. On the GitHub is only the keyboard of the computer project shown. The point is, that is missing protected mode from the Z80 can not really be added later on, because the protected mode should have had an instruction to work. With this so called "protected mode" an extra circuit is added, but there is not a single instruction to use it, a complete routine is needed to switch protected mode on or off. With this extra I/O circuit some of the write enables are blocked but I am not convinced if this is exactly the same as the protected modes for other micro processors. For instance the Z80 has only 16 address lines, if I would take some or the I/O lines I could use them to fake extra address lines, but then the Z80 does not have instructions to address 32 bit address lines so the result would be a non functioning 32 bit processor. The same goes for the I/O. The Z80 could be extended to 65536 I/O addresses with some extra hardware, but it would not be functioning all the time exactly the same as addressing the first 256 I/O addresses. But wait, there is more! The Z80 has very little 64 bit instructions, if a 64 bit instruction could be done by processing eight times an 8 bit instruction, then we could say the the Z80 has a secret 64 bit instruction set, but we would be fooling ourselves.

    Guess we were only shown how to repair and aligning Radio Shack disk drives. We did have computer repair classes at Tandy and later sat in on one. They went over oscilloscope signals and schematics of computers, but not videos maybe just a hand out. (This video came out years later.) The information in the video looks good. We had to change pins when adjusting track-0 and adjusting alignment using TDC and stepping to the alignment track (with the alignment disk installed). Had forgotten the brand of the alignment disk but guess it was the DYMEX disk show since it had green writing. Good video. We relied heavily on our oscilloscopes in DC mode, don't know if a frequency counter is necessary the software today may provide all of that. Had to adjust a disk out of alignment, because when you tightened the nut it would come into alignment. Maybe equivalent software to TDC to control disks can be used today.

    I'd like to think I was fairly computer literate in the 80s, but I never really considered Tandy a real competitor. Even when I worked at Software Etc in 1989, I didn't give much thought to the labels that mentioned PC Jr/Tandy graphics or sound on games. Had I continued to browse Radio Shack catalogs in the mid to late 80s, would I have known how good they were? Maybe, but it's really something you need to see and hear in person, and Computer Chronicles wasn't doing that, nor were Radio Shack commercials. I could've spent the same money on a Tandy 1000 as I did building my own PC and had a better experience, but just didn't know.

    Peter, I am curious if you've gone over a weigh scale with the unit, not only total weight ( water tank full, propane, all your camping gear etc ) but front and rear axle weights as well. I would be surprised if you are under the max GVWR with that unit. My brother had bought a ford F 350 dually years back and a camper of a similar era as the truck and the camper has no slides ( its a camper that was made in BC Canada ) and I am quite sure they lied about the empty weight, just the empty camper was way too much for the factory springs so he was in for a shock when he picked up his new camper. In went two more leaves per side in the rear packs, air bags, stable load wedges, and finally the largest aftermarket swaybars he could get his hands on to finally make it something that could carry the load and not feel scary on the road to drive in any sort of side wind or uneven pavement. He is about 500 lb over his total weight but still under the maximum axle ratings at least.

    • @pski
      @pski Рік тому

      Nope, I have not hit a scale yet. The rig is safe and secure on the road.

    • @charlesb4267
      @charlesb4267 Рік тому

      @@pski It will be interesting when you have a chance to go over a scale. I believe you had listed Timbren units installed on your unit unless I am mistaken, if the axle is resting on those that stabilizes a truck but if too much of the weight rests on them the ride suffers and the timbrens will live a short life from what I have seen another youtuber experience as their spring pack isn't up to the task and they were trying to get by without replacing or adding to the spring packs. It depends on the smoothness of the roads you travel on as well.
