    No... PCOS is NOT "an umbrella term like IBS" that "just means you have high androgen levels when all other conditions are ruled out..." 🤦‍♀️ That's so vague and invalidating and completely disregards the fact that there is literally a list of necessary diagnostic criteria for the condition, and both androgen levels AND ultrasound results are on it! (So yes, doctors absolutely CAN - and DO - use ultrasounds to confirm a PCOS diagnosis! Just because you ALSO need a full bloodwork analysis to rule out other conditions doesn't mean the ultrasound is any less valid! 😑) What the title/intro to this video SHOULD say is that PCOS "cannot be diagnosed by ultrasound ALONE," since there are TWO parts to the process, one of them BEING the ultrasound, and that distinction matters! High androgen levels are a SYMPTOM of PCOS, not the root cause of it! For anyone else who's here to try and learn more about their own diagnosis, here's a link to a video that (IMO) explained it a lot better: ua-cam.com/video/As4V7KyErZw/v-deo.htmlsi=GjQjjLIzj8Xqpmyd

    Finally diagnosed in 1984 after 22 doctors telling me it was in my head. I passed out twice from the pain. Had a laparoscopy and it returned 4 years later. Only pain meds were offered which I took until going to a naturopath who stopped it in its track. Pain free until I went back to the old diet. Each case seems to be unique. Mine hit me every 2nd month 1 week after menstruation. Ovary attached to bowel caused bowel to spasm and send uterine contractions. Just plain painful and penetrative sex made me hit the roof as leisions all over ligaments Yes diet works

    Really good info. Im 47 but have had it my whole life. And I crave salt and add tons of it into my food and still my blood pressure is on the low side. I think its adrenals as the only thing that ever helps my hypoglycemia is adrenal supplement - adaptogens but they also give me terrible insomnia so cant take them longer than few days. Been hypothyroid my whole life so i think its linked to that. Also very interesting connection with feeling safe as that something I never felt in my life. I have constant doom and gloom feeling and the worst case scenario running thru my head. I will look into meditation. Helpfull video. Curious about intermittent fasting as a metabolic tool if you have hypoglycaemia?

    • @LaraBriden
      @LaraBriden Місяць тому

      For the scenario of reactive hypoglycemia from insulin resistance (when intermittent fasting might be desired to improve insulin sensitivity), the best strategy is to first work to improve metabolic flexibility (with strategies I discuss in my new metabolism book) and only then attempt gentle intermittent fasting. Thus, hopefully avoiding the episodes of low blood sugar that could occur with fasting in the metabolically inflexible state.

    Rewatching and I'm glad to hear some research was done on this! I've had this issue since infancy and sometimes I still struggle. At the time, I found it hard to understand and was mostly inferring a lot from the other information available even when there was nothing that covered my situation directly. It caused me to be overweight as a kid because I was "eating when I was hungry" but not enough protein, so I was often hungry and agitated. My blood pressure ended up really low when I was pregnant. During the glucose tolerance test, I felt fine. They stopped at 2h as they do. I left and went on with my day and suddenly felt so absolutely awful at 3h (shaking, sweating, weakness) that I had to have a coke as that was available in the moment. I literally thought I was going to fall over within seconds, it was horrible. But all my tests come back normal (glucose, insulin, etc.) so I've had to try solve it myself. Protein and nutrients help a lot but I always thought it was an autonomic thing... now in perimenopause I feel like there are other factors now too. My body feels stressed and I don't know why, I've also gained weight and can't lose it despite activity. I am relieved to have no insulin resistance. I loved the Metabolism Repair book - what a treasure! My bloods came back normal so I'm going to try adding Chinese Medicine to encompass all the stuff going on. Thanks for covering this topic ❤

    I really dislike all the hypothetical scenarios. We need definitive answers. I tried gluten free for two years and dairy free for 3 at the same time. I got way way worse. This disease has so much to do with immune system modulation. I believe it’s to do with an underlying MCAS. This condition gets triggered and gets worse with time. Yes it maybe related to bacterial infection or even a parasite infection. But all the maybes don’t help unfortunately. It’s not genetic but perhaps a microbial I wish there was more research into this, it’s almost like it’s on purpose that there is no research on it. Women are paying thousands and spending their entire lives from one doctor to the next plus fertility treatments etc. what a cracking money maker. I don’t know if this is something to look at but I think there maybe progesterone antibody involvement 🤷‍♀️ I could be wrong but I believe so many of us are allergic to progesterone that maybe where the immune response is coming from. I developed my symptoms very young right after a tetanus shot. Again it maybe not related. But the same tetanus shot was implicated in the hcg that was found in them in Kenya, Philippines and Africa. Who knows where else? We need immunology to look into this. It’s not a hormonal issue, it’s immune issue.

    I developed sleep apnea and oxygen saturation problems while sleeping post menopause. ( for 12 months). Im not over weight. After lots of documenting what I do/ ingest, as I suspect its a chemistry set not a mechanical defect as the drs push cpap machines as one size fits all. 😞 Estrogen low dose gel and l -citrulline are proving to be the holy grail for this problem. Estrogen tanking (after estrogen dominance) and lack of nitric oxide. I work hard on my stubborn insulin resistance too. But am managing it. Its been hard for me because I am anti HRT. But the proof is inthe results. Hope this helps others. Also just adding I wouldn't have even known except I started wearing my smart watch while sleeping. It has saved my life. Highly recommend change of lifers doing this.

I gave up all dairy in January and my PMDD is much better, and my periods have continued to be painless and much lighter. It's been life changing. After that my mothers personality and mental state became worse and the opiates she was taking she became addicted, homeless etc.. 25 years on still on methadone and recently switched to the injection version. I understand it's both draining for her and you. Just a question because someone put up a podcast and said endometriosis happens to women who suffer from childhood internalised anger from trauma, in my mums case that is true. My mum has 3 daughters and none of us have it? How about your wife? I think most people with an illness of some sort have trauma because of low immune system being exposed to chronic levels of cortisol

      From how I've understood the Literature on the Difference between Endo & Adeno is that Endo Tissue can show up pretty much anywhere in the Body outside of the Uterus, sticking to your Bowls, Bladder, Justine, etc. Whereas, Adeno is within the Wall of the Uterus. A typical Sign of Adeno, besides Horrific Pain, is having an Enlarged Uterus &/or the Thickness of the Surrounding Wall of your Uterus is Thicker than what's Normal.
