Making Sense of Hello Charlotte
Making Sense of Hello Charlotte AND why YOU should play it before you watch me make sense of it...
In this video I review a series of games I was tipped about by a couple commentors, which turned out to be really interesting, namely the Hello Charlotte franchise. I spend quite a lot more time talking about the plot of the game than I spend analysing it, but it just ended up that way because, well, it's got one hell of a plot.

OMORI: how the unconscious boils to the surface
The Mother is the physical abuser in the flashback, you keep saying it looks like the character has a beard, but if you look at the mother her hair is matted to her face in the Claymation model, it is identical to her. She feels bad for the things she's done because shes the reason why most things got so bad in this current generation. Im sure her mother and father, if it is the grandfather, weren't that loving either. But the most popular theory is the mother abuses the father, and that's why he hides in his reflection chamber. The dad is just a much a victim as Claire is, but he can't or won't help Claire because he's too focused on hiding away and "fixing" himself.
we’re drowning in the statics… digitalizing our beings into everlasting endless souls… lost souls… alienated by their own existence… existence… it hurts to live… it numbs to die… the paradoxicality of existence… oneself… for all is one and all is one…
Thank you so much for covering this game i love it a lot. You should try out other games by etherane
BROOO JUST SAW THIS VID REALLY HAPPY YOU LIKED THE GAME.
You should definitely read the VN called heavens gate it’s really interesting and it’s quite short and it adds on to the story showing the connection between Charles, Vincent and Anry it definitely expanded the story and put more logic behind some stuff.
The sad fact is, all the people in the house are alone and neglected, suffering the same in their own fantasy worlds to cope. They are all neglected, and all neglecting each other, none of them can escape. And it's the worst for Claire, a little child, forced to tend to the whims of the three monstrous adults in her life. A true nightmare.
You had me at "it's like that episode of rick and morty"
I had to play all 3 Games before watching so im quite late to the party but man, what a series it was. I for one would love to see another video from you going into detail Great vid as always <3
Did not expect to hear about Jainism in a video game essay today lol. Great video!
I don’t think the grandfather was having a delusion when he said Claire is too involved with him, but in a way yeah I guess it is. He told Claire to stop hiding his cigarettes. Look at the health he’s in, coughing up blood, bloody tissues all over the floor, and can’t breathe. She hid his cigarettes because he shouldn’t smoke, it was out of care. He told her to stop helping people that don’t need to be helped, that she’s too invested in his life to think about hers. He’s basically putting his family last over his addiction and forcing his family to watch him die, because he’s gonna keep smoking anyway regardless of his health, he’ll just cope with the TV.
Chara was never evil. The player is the only one that's evil
what i read from the phone room is that "i know what you did" is something that omori fears he will hear one day, instead of the regular telemarketers spiels. that despite seclusion for years with no outsiders intruding, somehow some way his secret would be found out and everything will crumble.
Kinda wish it was all a bad dream Opal or that it was real, but the new family are her new adopted family helping her cope with her bad past
I didn’t see anyone mention this but Clairs weight compared to opals is extremely malnourished. Clair doesn’t even eat the burger, it’s as if she doesn’t know how.
dont worry, i LOVE the omoli voice.
@@FoonYoon Good to hear!

Another connection with papyrus to the trickster archetype is that he is more aware than he lets on. If you call him outside the lab sans will also pick up the phone and papyrus acts like he doesn't know what a lab is, but if you call him inside the lab Papyrus will know what a lab is implying he is purposefully acting more dumb around sans and other characters. Another thing is that set up Undyne becoming friends with you by bringing you to her house than leaving then returning to tell Undyne that she is "weak" for not being able to be your friend which is him directly manipulating Undyne into accepting friendship.
Thank you for not summarizing the plot and just getting straight to the discussion 😩🙏
The King:Ashore The Queen:Toriel The Warrior:Undyne The Trickster:The Great Papyrus (don't deny his greatness) The Joker & Th Judge:Sans The Skeleton The Lore-Keeper:Alphys The Devil: Flowey The Flower I think each of these Archetypes, that are presented within Stories can be found predominantly within the Core-Personality of these characters's Identities. Like for instance, Alphys's as the Royal Scientist and the role she is given in the story, is that of an aid and informant. Usually in fantasy settings like that, she would be something of a Keeper of the World's Lore. A Wealth of knowledge that the player must desperately seek out in order to understand and uncover what the issues and problems surrounding that world are and how best to solve them. But here in this Game she's just a nerdy dork who spews random thoughts and fan-gushing at you through your entire playthrough. Even going as far as to babysit you, to the point where if you ever take any real damage or get in real-peril, she'll immediately try everything within power to pull you out of it. It's actually quite interesting as to how her Character doesn't fit in with the Normal Archetype that you would see NPC's of her type play, in these types of Games. Of course there's that stuff with True Lab, but I think where her character really shines through isn't about how she chooses to inform others about stuff, but rather how she chooses to stand by any decision she makes, in light of the knowledge she has, despite the fears press her downwards and hold her back, she still holds on and has a desperate desire to take accountability. It's a very random, yet oddly fascinating dynamic, that you really don't get to see anywhere else, in any other video game. I think you missed out on not including Alphys and... and...... I...... Huh...? What was I about to say just now...? I actually forgot, lol. I think I was about to mention another character like Alphys who shared her role in the game but now I can't remember. Oh well. That's what I get for staying up at 1:15 in order to write a comment on a random Undertale video! Anyway, loved your video! I think your way of describing and interpreting the characters and the way their Tropes fit into the grand theme of Undertale was very unique. Very nice vid, I'd like to see you tackle the themes of Deltarune one day and to see how you interpret their archetypes one day. Maybe through Arcana Tarot Cards? Or perhaps a more evenly structured analysis by matching each one with 12 Literary Archetypes? Either way, it seems like you've got a lot on your hands, so don't get discouraged, and remember to Stay Determined ❤ The ******:███ ██████
i watched for the first time and being able to understand it can be scary or freaky stuff for most blissed normal people that don´t explore/question their own true reality by thinking outside the box above our own "little world called society and responsibilities", they are not ready to experience those realities and prespectives that some people go thru and their own by feeling it, i basically have good knowledge how to understand the "observer concept" regardless of culture/environment/feelings/actions etc to have proper responses with both rational and emotional intelligence, ways to perceive yourself in "third perspetive" as a puppet in a domino effect" making decision based on consequences in a larger scale mixing physics/philosophy and spirit, i can overthink and make accurate guess´s with some consistencie im not the might and holy but i do a good job understanding stuff like emotions with empathy, the human experience, nature, "spirit" n Mind i think frequencies are something that should be explored more. Everything is meaningless and depressing you just have to create meaning out of nothingness we have faith in a hopeless world just like a quantum dream Being able to understand when she where in the digital world or leaving is not an ez thing to do, if you think about it from first perspetive the experience from the sense of space n time you will logically assume from the first time you see Lain that she is the original one and main reality so you should question other realities until you see her leaving her computer and everything else act like normal, for exemple her sister being "dumb" is a diferent realitty connected by a linear line/web (not necessary connected but can interacted) they explain a bit that concept because "internet of course" like seeds in Utorrent downloads you connect to many other computers in order to download faster being able to get the same download from diferent people having diferent package you need. It is a Good anime indeed very deep and wise rich of culture and prespectives that can become a real distopia, ahead of his time indeed

Something that I think a lot of people miss about OMORI’s end is that not being given a concrete conclusion to how Sunny’s friends react is really, really important to the message. Sunny has worked so hard to get to the point he’s at during the good end. He’s hopeful that he’ll be forgiven, but he’s forgiven himself, and that’s what matters. Seeing the reactions of his friends would dampen that message, because if they didn’t accept his apology, people would (obv not all but a lot) forget about the message of self forgiveness, and return to that idea that if you can’t earn the forgiveness of others, then you don’t have the right to move on. And if they did accept it, it would turn people back to the idea that the only reason to do this work towards self forgiveness would be to earn external validation. If it was left ambiguous but you still got to see those reactions, people would just be angry about the “cliffhanger” and more likely than not, jump to the conclusion that negative reactions automatically mean Sunny’s apology will be forever rejected. Omori’s ending works because you’re given the conclusion that matters to the story. Sunny’s friends are important, yes. They’re important to his story, yes. But at this point in his story, they’re distractions. What matters is that he chose to go on, no matter the response. I know this wasn’t talked about at all in the video LOL it just got me thinking, because this video serves as a great reminder as to why the ending works so well. It’s frustrating to see people complain about it. With the progression of the manga, im becoming progressively more worrier that they'll show final reactions at the end, which would cause direct harm to the game.
Great vid, this was really insightful :) Love the connections to Egyptian myth in particular. Would love to hear your thoughts on the psychology of Deltarune's light world/dark world split

@@DetectiveMar Yes, because that's what the Roaring seems to be (dark and light merging together)
@@TheSkyGuy77 Yeah, that’s true, but it would be more of a negative version of the process - where consciousness collapses into the unconscious. A worthy topic though, to be sure
Papyrus _seems_ to be unaware, but has moments when he is aware of what's going on.
He knows a lot more than most people realize, even in game many characters either underestimate his observation skills or try and “protect” him from certain information. For example undyne and sans often attempting to lie to him for him not to worry. A good example is when in a neutral run sans tells papyrus that the dead monsters are on vacation, however papyrus does admit he knows, but feigns ignorance for other peoples desires for him to not know
Somebody mentions lain I watch the video
Let's all love Lain!
I watched opal not knowing anything about it expect for hearing the music and loving it. It was deeply triggering for me, I have DID and grew up in a household like that and left me a broken person. That shot at the end just looking at the sign was a lot. My little “escape from reality” has become a hard place to deal with in my day to day life and taken me years of therapy/meds just to get a small step in life, just cause of how much my family necglected me and refused to engage and recognize I was dissociating and splitting.
10:47 Not just that, but why do we get upstaged as the main villain by them so instantly? 10:58 Then why claim to have “realized the purpose of my reincarnation”? Why lie about that? Doesn’t it have to be a lie if this is true?
The videos that make up your analysis saga are certainly some of the best videos on the platform regarding this game. Very well done! I do have an interesting question for you though, that being what is a possible explanation for Black Space 2 being in the Omori Route rather than the True Route? Since, after all, Sunny is more willing to confront the truth and his trauma, whereas the Omori Route has him actively repressing anything to do with Mari and the truth. So why is this area representing the deepest depths of his psyche in the area where he's not learning the truth? I'd love to hear your thoughts! All that being said, I'm looking forward to whatever you put out next!
Someone once said in another vid that during the SUNNY ROUTE, when we end up fighting BASIL, we're seemingly trying to attack the SOMETHING entangling him while he attacks the MARI-based one. In the OMORI ROUTE however, it ends up being about saving the innocent and blissfully ignorant idealized BASIL, while pushing away the horrible reminder of real-world BASIL by censoring his appearance and name with "STRANGER."
I love this video
@@stegowawa Thank you!
Spamton does not seem aware of the player, generally speaking, and the light world is likely the heaven he speaks of. If he were aware of the player, his whole plan of taking Kris' SOUL to break free of the strings is nonsensical, regardless of what theory you ascribe to, he would only become a puppet again. On the "Audience" lines, theres two you left out (or probably forgot about or didn't know about if you got this evidence point from other theorists). "There is no audience" and "Spamton begs the audience to stop taking the furniture out of his room." The second one makes it impossible for it to refer to the playerbase, and the first one just says that the audience doesn't exist. These lines are also references to Mettaton's fight in UT, which makes their lore implications just a little bit questionable. The only characters we can definitely say have meta knowledge with the community's collective understanding of the game is Gaster and the first fallen human in Undertale. His heaven lines have multiple other valid interpretations, and I personally believe the most likely one is that he is referring to the light world: He calls his body "Heavenly" and his body was notably created by a lightner (likely Mettaton's ghost form) imbuing their hopes with the tool swatch represents (a drawing program), giving it immense power. This connects heaven to the lightners, and the light world as a result. The 3rd time he mentions heaven is during the spare cutscene where the entire background changes to a cartoony sunny skydrop with clouds (its also his shop background, which adds to this, as the thing he aspires towards would be something he would surround himself with reminders of). It's a cartoony representation of the sky and sun. The connection to the light world is a bit clear here. He does not mention Heaven once in the Weird route, which is also the route where he wishes to rule over the dark world instead of stealing Kris' SOUL.
I put this in a separate comment because it's unrelated to the spamton stuff, but heres some other less concrete observations I have: I honestly think that the player is just as associated with, if not more so, demons than angels. Gaster (a character heavily linked to the number 6, and who we may have made a deal with by "accept[ing] everything that happens from now on") is the one who called us to Deltarune. The area we get called to is called the depths, which Jevil later associates with Hell. Kris is/was interested in demon summoning classes according to their poppup click flavor text and Queen's mansion room. The dark fountains are themselves described as Holy by King and the soundtrack. The roaring is caused by an imbalance between light and dark in the favor of dark and is associated with Hell by Jevil. The fountains are holy but also the bringer of hell.
Is there something wrong with me? I'm a grown ass 42 years old guy, and when I see the character interactions required to do the Snowgrave route, I inevitably cry. Mind you, I haven't played Undertale or Deltarune, I only obsessively watched a lot of review, analysis and theorycrafting in the past week. Might have to do with how I'm hyper-sensitive but struggle to understand my own emotions... I don't know. I am left here with a feeling of morbid curiosity because I do want to see every way this can play out, yet, something absolutely hurt. Great video, thanks for sharing and cheers!
