I painted my wall with an oil based paint and I didn’t like the color. I’m planning to change it but use a water based paint. Will acetone be able to degloss it? I don’t think I have the power to scrub and sand it. Any easy ways out there?

If I’m just trying to take the shiny off of a white semi gloss trim and I’m going to repaint it with a flat paint. Do I still need to prime it?

Excellent technique. Thanks for the video. I tried different acetone brands from all the big box stores but the results were not as shown in your video. Where can I buy the acetone that you are using in the video or Is there any other acetone brand that you recommend and is available locally.

Can you link the brand of acetone that you used? Bought a house that is stuck in the early 90’s. Planning on de-glossing, shellac priming and then painting all the trim and doors white.

Excellent deglossing technique. Note that masking tape must be removed well before the paint dries. Should not need a cutting knife to cut the paint film that is bonded on both the tape and the wall. ALWAYS wear protective NITRILE (not latex) gloves when handling acetone

Does this acetone technique work well on previously painted surfaces? Or just for previously varnished surfaces?

You make it sound brittle. Maybe a redesign with better adjustability is required. Something stronger than plastic, like fibreglass like in fishing rods or even bamboo, thin steel would be better and a screw pivot like some of the designs used in bass drum pedal triggers. Maybe a steel spring style with a rotating adjustment
