85.5X74? my dad was an old hippie that said VW should have made the 1700cc the stock engine not the 1600, because the 1700cc has more steeetable torque in low to mid range. u get alil better gas mileage as well. my dad had a 59 Ghia he drove 20+ years to work and back with that 1700cc he built for himself. thanks for the video, brought back good memories. P.S. im a VW nut too.. lol
my dad put 48s on a stock engine to prove a point, the engine will only pull so much air, so it all in the tuning.

I have a 65 bug w/ 1776 , single empi 40idf on top. I was thinking about changing it to dual weber 34 ict's. Do you think it will run better or smoother?
Yes it will, way better. Change to duals.

Nope
Everything I've been reading says it is.... But they jet and venturi them down to the engine, But if he gets a bigger engine he already has the carbs, they just need re-jetted.... From what I've read 40's are good up to a 2000cc. But I'm just learning....

Is your exhaust leak or some lifters loose it's got a very unusual noise
I can say that this is not properly tuned at this video, compared to today after 2 years of usage. Will post vid of it now that it is correctly tuned.
I can't believe people don't know how to set ignition timing and even if they know how to adjust the valves. All you have to do is read the instructions a good repair manual
Have you read the caption?
A good repair manual will tell you that dynamic timing is the most accurate way to time an engine, with preference to full advance. Static timing is just to put you in the ball park.

A single 44 IDF will do for this engine. You will have power and economy. Dont over carburate, your gas mileage will go to hell....!!! Not much difference in power increase either....!!!
😂 if ur concerned about gas mileage.. go buy a Electric Gay mobile.. your obviously not a VW guy! Sad!

Agreed, dual 44s are WAY too much carb for a 1600. Dual 40 IDFs with 28mm venturies are the way to go for performance, or a single 44 for decent power and economy balance, as you suggest

I built the same exact engine I think the only thing different is the distributor. I still have an 009. But I have an aluminum case and I can't wait to hear the sound of that vintage speed exhaust

I still prefer dual QP exhausts over that stainless steel "JUNK" those $600+ exhausts crack and come apart inside to much . Still sounds good though, not hatin'
To each his own stevo. I havent experienced any cracks on those "JUNK" mufflers i sold over 20sets now.
