Why Linux is the better choice
In today’s digital age, data security and privacy are more important than ever. With the increase in cyberattacks, surveillance, and data misuse, it’s vital to use an operating system that gives you control over your data and protects against unauthorized access. While Windows is the most common OS, Linux offers significant advantages in security and privacy. In this post, we'll explore why Linux is often a better choice for users who prioritize these aspects.

Biggest problem with "windows" is that it's part of the system price. I shouldn't have to pay for something mediocre, that I'll never use.
I have used Arch, Debian, and Fedora. I prefer Arch. Once you install it, I find packages are just easier to install. Mostly everything you want to install is in the AUR.

Thank you.I like openSUSE.
Thank you for uploading this. Linux is great.
LibreOffice? I love the concept of support them, but if they're going to ask almost $50 then they should include better sofware. Like OnlyOffice. It's more like the desktop experience what you pay for.
Another great video from this most helpful channel. Thank you.
simply know what your doing before doing it i will break one of those never do on linux for 1 because i want to break linux that is my goal for the first few months i learn fastest by forcing myself into the situation unknown sources been using them for years yet the reap the consequences because i virustotal them and run them in a vm without internet before ever comiting them to bare metal if they act suspicious ill check if anything tries to go over network otherwise if i do not have a replacement for a feature it has i just use it in a vm to be honest with the malware out there these days virtualization should be in everybody's list of security practices bookmark the sites that you know are safe while if you want to browse the web use a vm because even now the 1st page of google search can contain phishing links and scams and other malicious crap before the ai crap it was basically pushed back to like page 3

Mint 22 is crap. At least that's my experience. Mint 19.3 worked perfectly ! - Copying files from one external hard-drive to another (both ext4 and mounted) takes forever, and can even lead to a hang up. - "Handbreak" the video converter is slow and also leads to freezing. - The Taskbar is now "grouping" everything and can not changed back to the older "non grouping" version (a lot of people i know have complained about this) - Nividia driver 550 detects 2 monitors, even if there is just 1, leading to a mouse pointer "dead-zone" in the right upper display corner, because that's where the pointer would switch to the second monitor ... again, there is no second monitor ! - and the list goes on ... THIS WAS AFTER A COMPLETELY FRESH INSTALLATION ! Ps.: This is just my own personal experience, so please don't crucify me ! 😇

These suggestions are true no matter Operating System you use.👍
I just upgraded my laptop via the included app. Went smoothly, works as well as the previous version did. I'm not going to upgrade my desktop for a bit though, to see if there are any major issues that crop up with version 22.
For installing UBUNTU does the Mac didn’t need to disable secure start boot and enable “boot from external drive” ? I totally forgot to do this steps before trying to install Kali Linux in my MacBookpro and I’d crashed the software, I had to reinstall macOS again 😢
My choice: LMDE. Debian based, Cinnamon GUI is for me the most productive. My xerox multi function printer and scanner works out of the box

what is better for laptop amd ryzen ,this or arch?
It depends on the time you want to invest. If you want something that just works, Fedora is one of the OSes that comes with a very recent Linux kernel making it ideal for current hardware compatibility, while providing excellent stability. Arch gets its updates much more quickly so you are always up-to-date, but comes with the risk that an update might break something. If you don't want to run the risk of your laptop suddenly becoming less usable because of a borked update that you need time for to fix, go with Fedora.
Debian has a steep learning curve compared to Arch? What?
I was not expecting that to be so simple/easy on most windows laptops you have to boot into the manufacturer's custom bios. While they're all "mostly" similar, the option to boot from usb is sometimes hidden in strange places.
I don't get it. Everyone is talking about "up to date" or "bleeding edge" software on one distributions and opposite on other. What are they talking about? Older packages in package manager? Delayed operation system updates? How can be ubuntu more up to date if it is based on current debian release? (Not a valid qustion if it's all about packages, but how more delayed are they then?). Is it support for latest hardware (well, what is new hardware than, is my, for example, 1 year old cpu can have support problems)? I am confused 😢
Actually NixOS has by far the biggest package repository and was left out. You can switch desktops environments in an instant and you work in a time machine with all the different versions of your system that you can use for rollback. Want two ir more incompatibke runtimes of javascript , java or python , to install spftware on one machine that usally creates incompatible cross refereces to one or more package Nix and NixOS is there for you. When you learn Nix the language of package manager Nix that runs on all linix system including mac you can declare your whole system like in puppet or ansible but better because you have the control over each package version via flakes if you need it. Want your configs also managed by nix homanager is there fpr you.ok Yes Nix is a massive rabbit whole but if you have declares your system or development environment with nix-ahell in a descriptive version safe way you can rebuild a new system in minutes, as well as exact copies of your runtime environment you want to ship.
I can't stand the way that's different with Debian. I think they follow the Job's model. It is just way too slick. Give me basic and simple Mint. I want everything where I can find it easily. No magic hidden buttons or secret incantations for me. Oh, and yes I have a degree in computers so I can do it but I'd rather not have to write a driver to get my screen resolution to be stable or my wifi to work.

Your voice doesn't match the thumbnail. 🤨
the only important metric for "how well does x work" is: do distro version upgrades work well, through a GUI, after changing a few packages. Fedora with dnf was pretty horrible in that regard, Debian works awesomely, even though the jump from 11-12 is way bigger than 39-40. meanwhile the packages are awesome, nearly all bugs are upstream bugs. as a Fedora Kinoite user, this is the perfect distro for a pretty sensible desktop like Plasma, as the package managemend is rock solid it is also the right management for such new packages. distro upgrades work completely painless
It's surprising how Fedora's core can be so polished despite the fact that it uses very new software. However, it's also true that it has literally almost zero GUI for updates, repositories, packages, snapshots and so on. It's always recommended, but I wouldn't. Terminal should not be ideal in my opinion.
Terminal is the ideal.

After many years distro hopping, I'm looking for a clean Linux distro and user friendly! Do you recommend Fedora? I like KDE Plasma.
Try opensuse tumbleweed. It uses Kde as default DE. I like it more than fedora kde spin.
I would say it's quite good, it was my first distro an I still use it. I also didn't really have issues in the realm of user friendliness. From my experience it works quite well and I also installed it on my father's PC and he doesn't really have issues. And if has any it's basic things like I cannot use the printer. The actual issue just was that he didn't select it in the printing menu. So I'd say it's very usable and it is also very stable.

This man fixes Ubuntu with a few steps. 0. Use BTRFS and Timeshift 1. remove Snap, replace with Flatpak 2. add Firefox, Flatpak and KeepassXC Repos (I hope you did that, Flatpak Firefox has no filesysten sandboxing) 4. Use hardware enablement for a recent kernel 5. Use Ubuntu Pro for security backports for other packages (6. enable automatic background updates) Linux Mint has DEBs for Firefox, and Thunderbird can be used as Flatpak with no issue (as it doesnt need filesystem sandboxing) I am still waiting for CentOS bootc. As I have had only good experiences with image-based distros, and dont want to rely on a package manager to keep my system running.

You don't use timeshift with spirallinux. It already has Snapper GUI built in. Just like in OpenSUSE.
The first time I installed Linux it was slackware. I had to recompile the kernel to get my graphic card to work. When I was done I didn't really know what to do with it so it ended there. But Linux has always remained in the back of my head and as the ecosystem lockin of Apple Google and more and more Microsoft grows ever stronger and the respect for privacy dies more and more I feel Linux becoming more tempting than ever. OpenSUSE seems interesting. I think I will start there. Wish me good luck.
I moved to Fedora workstation ... no snaps to deal with and very stable
Linux Mint
My experience with Ubuntu 22.04 was very rough. Updates broke drivers for Sound Blaster Z SE pretty early and I had to use what I can until much later by accident I discovered that sound card drivers was fixed. Then I had some troubles after enabling app images to be executable on my system. I don't really remember what exactly broke, but I remember having problems with it. Last major problem was after installing WINE. I think it was after I enabled 32x my desktop simply stopped working. I couldn't create any icon on desktop and anything copied there simply vanished. At this point I was beyond frustrated with this release that I downgrade back to Ubuntu 20.04. Although it was noticeable slower and lacked new nice features of 24.04, I used it prior and it was extremely stable and functional. So I used 20.04 until I upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 which had some bumps, but so far works much better than 22.04 ever worked for me. I didn't use any mods and I use snaps. They work fast for me and unlike flatpaks, there was only one snap based package that does not work for me. Maybe there's more, I don't know. As I like to say "I don't have problems with snaps, I have problems with developers poor support of it.".
I first moved to Linux in 2008 and have been full-time using Linux since 2014.
I have not removed the snapd daemon from my 24.04 LTS system, however, I have removed all the snap programs such as Firefox, Thunderbird and others. I reinstall the .deb version of Firefox using the Mozilla PPA then using nala to reinstall it.
Guy apps will be snap based. OS, desktop, will be kept on deb packages. The money come from servers and companies will not accept a snap based foundation. Snap has some good things in server although, like lxd, microk8s, microceph. The integration they made to work out of the box is great for small companies to setup easy at small scale what the big guys do at big scale.
I bounced between many distros then made a perfect custom distribution for me based on Ubuntu 20.04. I used cubic to make the actual iso file to use in multiple systems I have to make a new one soon.
Thanks. I checked Ubuntu five years ago when I moved to Linux and decided to go with MInt instead for one main reason - I don't want a desktop full of giant icons whenever I want to open something. I want a text list in alphabetical order, and not in the centre of my 50" 4K monitor. For me, it's like someone has slapped me in the face having that jump up at you. I also want a panel at the bottom where I naturally look, not way up there at the top right. I'm hooked on Cinnamon as my DE and don't intend to change.
You can move the panel. You can pin all your regularly used programs to the panel. I have ZERO icons on my desktop and a small panel along the bottom that hides when an application wants the space. UI Tweaks allows you to set the top bar to disappear also. You want a menu driven UI? ...Install Openbox window manager and boot Ubuntu into that. Dude, this is Linux, you can do anything you want though I would have thought that someone who rocks a 50" 4K monitor would already have known that. smh...
@@johnc3403 Good to know, thanks. I only tried it with a live stick for a half hour and hated it. Been using Mint for 5+ years and happy with that, so can't imagine changing unless it were to LMDE.
