Great video! I am black west African woman and have spent most of my life in Canada and no one has ever asked me or my parents if we have seen lions roaming the land or if we lived in a house. I am sorry to hear you ran into such ignorant people, but I don't think that should speak for the entire country. I once had a Spanish-speaking person in Canada accuse me of being racist against Spanish-speakers when I was minding my own business which is insane considering I have been spending years studying Spanish and visiting Latin America countries. I find that some people tend to read into things the wrong way. There are ignorant racist people everywhere in this world and everyone on the world is different so there is always something to be prejudiced about. We ALL need to rise above this ignorance. We all bleed red blood🩸 !

This is a great video. There is so much truth in it. I visited Merida Oct 23 and had the best time. I never felt discriminated against. I have also been to Playa del Carmen, San Miguel de Allende and Queretero Mexico. A few of the women gave me strange looks though. I am sorry to hear that people are still asking ignorant questions about Africa there are so many books and videos that shows the beauty of Africa.

Mexicans dont pay much attention to foreigners unless there's money involved. Like if its in a touristic area or business related. I appreciated how laid back and welcoming Yucatecans were. They typically mind their business but were always available to help if needed. I noticed the rich Mexicans, more light skinned ones were less friendly, snobbish. But I notice its how they treat lower class Mexicans which is sad. This seems to be the case in most countries.

Thank you for this educational video! I am Hispanic but European-looking, born in California. I have been a single mother for 15 years, 9 months, and would be considered a white collared corporate worker. I live in kind of a gray area. And have always been curious about other peoples' experiences. (I recently moved to Spain with my daughter for a better, more fulfilling life...) For many years I lived in a neighborhood north of San Francisco, surrounded by families from different parts of central America & Mexico. It was interesting to observe a significant amount of bias, racism & classism between the different families who were from El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, etc. (By the way, my child went to school with their children from kindergarten to high school so I knew the families well, celebrating special occasions together and watching our children grow up!) I once worked for a grocery store/cafe where the Hispanics constantly fought with the Haitians in the kitchens and the Mexicans would fight with the Salvadorans. It It was so strange to see immigrants from completely different countries and cultures fighting. For a short time, I was dating an Afro-Cuban who confessed he didn't understand African American culture. One time I was forced out of a women's bathroom because I was the only white person in black bar. When I went to use the men's bathroom, the security guard tried to redirect me but I told him what had happened. He apologized profusely and told me he would watch the door to the men's bathroom as I used it. These are events all occurred the in the San Francisco Bay Area which is a very racially and ethnically diverse part of California. Growing up in the United States, I've always thought of it as the most racist, classist, culturally ignorant & exclusive country, and the one that fixates the most on race and class, but it never ceases to amaze me how humans can be so extremely xenophobic regardless of where they came from -- and likely because of where they came from. We humans are so drawn to power. My hope is that one day we will evolve to the point where we realize that we all have the same color blood, our heart beats the same, and we cry the same salty tears of joy...and sadness. And a homogeneous world is much less interesting! May Merida continue to be your place of freedom to be the beautiful woman you are!

I am aware about this unfortuante incident in the U.S. Mexicans see "Black people" as outsiders, who are mostly from the U.S, which they look up to. So they respect us more than anything. Most Mexicans are too busy trying to wrap their head around why you will leave your country to move to theirs. They dont have the time to be racist.
