Lessons on Product and Industrial Design

I made this channel for all my students and people interested in learning practical things about Product and Industrial Design. I will start with technical things related to model making and sketching for early stages of new product development, but I hope with time to add not only more technical stuff but also bits of theory, history and whatever my students request, or you... let me know what you would like to know.
I am an Industrial Designer with 20+ years of practice. I also have a Master in Transportation Design and I worked in Europe for several years designing the interior of cars for brands like FIAT, Alfa Romeo, Audi and many others. More recently (2016) I finished a PhD on Sustainable Design. Since 2014 I am faculty and researcher at the Wilson School of Design in Kwantlen Polytechinc University in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Fibreglass Alarm Clock

In order to produce the Alarm Clock we been working on with Fibreglass. It is quite simple, just follow the steps, and protect yourself from the fumes produced by the resin and from the fibreglass, so wear a mask, long sleeves and gloves!

Alarm Clock - MDF

One more exercise making the same alarm clock model as previous videos this time with MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard). MDF is a hard material and quite stable if treated properly, just be careful if you want to paint your model, as MDF is very porous and it will absorb the paint, you have to work the surface first to avoid that.
Alarm Clock - Polystyrene (PS)

Styrene is a very nice plastic to work with, is soft enough to work fast and dense enough to achieve amazing surface quality. It's a thermoplastic which means you can also heat it and modify its shape, for example with vacuum forming.
