Casting in plaster molds
Переглядів 31 тис.4 роки тому
In the video below I taught how to make plaster molds: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KriH... Now it's time to use them to cast our model. I originally thought on casting polyester resin, but because of the voume of the model, it would mean too much resin for the exercise with my students... too expensive, so I decided to better cast paris plaster. In essence is the exact same thing, casting resin or...

Alarm Clock - MDF
Переглядів 2484 роки тому
One more exercise making the same alarm clock model as previous videos this time with MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard). MDF is a hard material and quite stable if treated properly, just be careful if you want to paint your model, as MDF is very porous and it will absorb the paint, you have to work the surface first to avoid that.

Styrene is a very nice plastic to work with, is soft enough to work fast and dense enough to achieve amazing surface quality. It's a thermoplastic which means you can also heat it and modify its shape, for example with vacuum forming.

Переглядів 622 тис.5 років тому
Short video on how polyurethane foam is made. It is bought in liquid form in two chemical components, that once mixed it reacts and the foam is created. There are rigid and flexible foams as well as different densities, check which one you are buying! I am surprised and grateful for so many visits and questions, I am terribly sorry I cannot reply to all of you. I am not an expert on foams or ch...

First video on the basics of sanding and sandpaper. Sanding is not complex, but doing it right in order to save time and have the best quality requires knowing some basic things. Remember you are not a monkey pushing a sandpaper, you are a designer searching for volumes, surfaces and feelings when touching and object!

Stereotomy
Переглядів 1,9 тис.5 років тому
One good way to understand the volume of your design is by making a Stereotomy, this is basically slices of the volume in different directions, made out of paper, cardboard or even plastic or metal, all depends on time, objective, budget, etc. There are many styles on how to do it, some simple, some very complex. It is all about your skills for precision cutting. Practice, practice, practice...
