Onnie's Prairie Garden
United States
Приєднався 19 лип 2012
I first started gardening in 2015 and I started this channel to show my gardening journey! I have many gardening dreams that I hope to fulfill in the coming years.
My Grandpa was an amazing gardener and some of my very favorite memories are of watching him work on his garden while I played in the backyard. I remember very many delicious meals from fruits and veggies from his garden. My Grandma was very fond of flowers and I think I inherited that, so I am going to attempt to grow some of my favorites. I hope to continue this passion for gardening onto my son and teach him as I learn myself. My uncle followed in my Grandpa's footsteps and is a terrific and successful gardener- you may know him as the Midwest Gardener here on UA-cam!
Thank you for watching my videos and any advice is always welcome!

The facial expression said it all... Surprisingly good tomato...
Cherokee Carbon is on my list for next year for sure. Paul Robeson too.
With the Brad’s Atomic judge ripeness by squeezing vs color. I think you tested an under ripe one. They are lovely in flavor. I am trying Atomic Fusion this year but they are stubborn to ripen. We love Dr. Wyche’s Yellow. It was my largest ever Tom. If interested I did a tasting video, my channel is Robin Gardens.
Beautiful!
Did you and your son intentionally wear purple shirts in order to sample a Cherokee Purple? I'm supposed to sample a larger Black Krim I picked today and keep gardening
Wheres the bacon and mayo
Wow that was the size of a Barred Boar tomato ... not your average cherokee purple ~!
That does not look like a mortgage lifter.
Very nice! I am growing Dr. Wyche's for the first time this year, for #growbig24 contest. I'm also growing Green Zebra for the first time. Still waiting to get a good taste of both. I do love the stripes on the Green Zebra. Thanks for sharing. 🙋♀️
Oh very nice!
Beautiful looking tomato. This year I got some Rebel Starfighter seeds, should be a beautiful purple and dark red tomato I believe. I got the plant in late because I had to start over but it's growing!
Waiting for crops to ripen is sooooooooo hard. Lol. Beautiful tomatoes. Are any of those the Green Zebra?
I'll check your channel for videos as well but did you grow this again? I'm curious how yellow yours looks. I have two Green Zebra plants and mine are quite striped. I picked two way too early, before I learned that they start to get yellow stripes when ripe. Those did ripen on the counter after weeks and didn't taste very good, very sour. But I'm waiting patiently for some to ripen. Thanks for sharing. 🙋♀
It's Thor-Burns.
Thank you, for a true taste test, without salt first and then with salt. Salt changes the whole taste profile. I've watched a lot of tomato taste tests and yours is the first that convinced to to try Aunt Ruby German Green.
Thank you so much for watching!!!! Thank you! Aunt Ruby is so good! So much so that I'm growing it again this year. Can't wait for the first ripe one!!! Happy Growing!!! 🌱
I'll be doing another taste test this year with 15 varieties!!!
Youre missing out. Fried green tomatos are just heavenly. I love fried green tomatos.
This season I'm going to give Fried Green tomatoes from my garden a shot.
They're very nice 🙂
My son and I grow tomatoes and agree with the Cherokee Purple.
It's such a good one. Always so flavorful!
Black Krim, Black Russian and Cherokee Purple are my favorites.
They are good ones!
Great video thank you
Thank you! 🍅
Those don’t look like the midnight snack I’ve seen. It’s almost twice as big and the color is off. It looks more like a rosella purple. Midnight snack are small cherry tomatoes with deep purple streaking.
Great video and new subscriber
Thank you! 😊
If you've followed her career you know that weight gain and loss is part of her journey. She looks fabulous right now 😍
I have to agree. Cherokee Purple and pink brandywine are the best tasting for me.
I have been wanting to grow morgage lifters for a while now. But now you have me curious about cherokee purple
Oh, it's so good!!!
As a non-American [although lived in Boston for 16 years], I ended up searching for the 13th president of US :) These videos are actually helpful. Rather that read a one line description, hearing humans trying to describe it is much better. Trying to grow some this year in Karachi, Pakistan. Cool. Thank you!
Thanks. I'm looking forward to Dr. Wyche's this year. This was a great video!
Thank you!!! Ooo, that one was so good! Enjoy!!!
Love your wild flower garden 3 years ago. How is it now!? Would love to do this. What zone are you in? I am 8n zone 4b MN. I am new to your site... LOVE THE DAMIAN AND COSMAS JOKE ... NICE TO MEET YOU. Oh, my, our Grandson and Granddaughter -in -law have a puppy Pippin Took. Just a suggestion, check out other garden sites. To inspire and lift you up, God is good! I love Jeri Landers Hopalong Hollow . PRAY, HOPE, DON'T WORRY...ST. PIO. Linda
Thank you!!! I wish I knew how the wildflower garden is doing. We moved from that house! Hopefully, the new owners have appreciated them coming back up! Thank you for the tips! I definitely have a lot of other gardeners I follow! I love the youtube gardening community! Awww, I love that someone else has a Pippin Took!!! 😍 I'll check out that channel! AMEN! (I love Padre Pio)
I do plan to have another wildflower garden in our new place when we get it!!!!
Hope you have a great growing season this year!
Thank you!!! Happy growing to you, too!
Great update. Alot going on entering the new season over there. The motivation can come in waves and best to not press it when down. The fun will come back. Thanks for the share!
Thank you! Hope this are going well for your containers so far! I'll be checking in
I grew Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Ananas Noire and Mortgage lifter last year. All did very well and it was a toss up as to which made the best sauce. The Ananas Noire(Black Pineapple) is a very beautiful and hardy tomato and was a pleasant surprise. Will be growing all of them again this year.
Super!
#1 Cherokee purple is for me and I can eat all day long with salt just like a fruit.
Thank-you from Winderdome BC!
I like your new trays they seem like they will do the job nicely...I will be following your progress as you post, friend, thank you kindly for sharing your knowledge💙💙💙
Can I just use dirt from the yard to start or will that be a waste. I'm trying to save money as much as possible and get creative this year.
You can certainly do that I just would not recommend it for starting seeds indoors if you can help it. Sometimes dirt can be very dense and not be good for draining. Also, the lack of nutrients for your new seedlings. You want them off to a really good start. And then lastly there might be weed seeds in your soil to contend with. At Walmart, you can get some jiffy for $6. I think that's pretty affordable.
Thank you so much for your reply. God bless you.
Getting alot of tomatoes going over there. It has been forever since I grew the Solar Flare and miss it. We have a good/bad relationship with those Burpee trays over here but can work really well. Lots of cool types. Thanks for the share!
Oh really? Thanks for the heads up. What has been the issue for you?
Not major issues to be sure and perhaps from our unique grow situation but our green tray has caused some sprouts to fall out from the heat mat I think. I would say if you notice the new seedlings start to look off it might be worth a try of taking them from the heat mat. We also got a 36 cell blue tray this year from Burpee and it seems to be working alot better. It does have the pods elevated a bit off the bottom too. May be a non issue and hoping to do a video on them someday after had for a season or two. @@Onniesprairiegarden
It looks like those trays will work great friend 😊
Thank you!!! Hope all is well. 🩷
Noire's have a huge flavor drop if you refrigerate them.
I could see that. I never refrigerate them unless I have extra that just doesn't get eaten. That hasn't happened much at our house lol
@Onniesprairiegarden I had a tough time eating them after a couple days of refrigeration....
I totally understand trying em without salt first but they always pop with some salt! I love to eat mine with the Twang salt. My absolute favorite snack on planet Earth! I enjoyed these two videos, have liked and subscribed! Thank you.
Thank you so much for subbing and watching! Trying tomatoes is one of the best joys in this life ever! And I agree about the salt! ❤
I tried Aunt Ruby's German Green last year. I had to sit down when I tried it lol. I love it so much. This is the one of 3 coming back into my garden this year (long with Pink Berkeley Tie Die and Prairie Fire)
Haha! I love it! Aunt Ruby is soooo good!
Dr. Wyche’s is incredible! One of my ABSOLUTE favorites.
It was very delicious! Can't wait to grow it again.
Gorgeous
It would have been interesting for you to comment on the aroma too
Thank you for this tip! I'll remember this. Unfortunately, covid took some of my smell 😢but I can still smell close up.
🫶🥰🤗
❤️ from Croatia.
Hubby was a good sport. I enjoyed watching his non-reactions. “Tastes like a tomato.” 🤣
Haha!!!! I know! 😆
