My First Group Ride - There Were So Many Bikers
So, I did a thing! I joined my first ever group motorcycle ride with the Bikes and Coffee crew in Hawai'i. Let me tell you, 50+ motorcycles on the road is a whole new level of crazy! Honestly, I was terrified but also SO excited. We conquered twisty roads, insane traffic, and even a few close calls. Did I survive? Kinda. Did I have fun? Absolutely! Come along for the ride and see if I can keep up with these pro bikers. #BikesAndCoffee #HawaiiMotorcycles #GroupRide #AdrenalineJunkie #NewbieRider

Okay, so I'm a total Honda Rebel 300 girl. Like, that's all I've ever known. But I decided to switch it up and rent a Harley Davidson Sportster Iron 883 and a KTM Duke 390 from GoGo Rental to see what all the fuss is about! We cruised around the beautiful Hawaiian roads and put these bikes to the test. Wanna see if I survived? 😂 Big thanks to @gogorental for hooking me up with these motorcycles...

    Biker tip. Add one of those black, metal paper clips that holds about thirty pages to the bike Perhaps on one of the cables. It works great to hold that pieces of paper you need to leave attached to your machine.

    Try riding a 650cc bike next. Going from a 300cc to an 800 is a big jump. Then if you really want an 800, try a Suzuki Boulevard C50, it's 805cc. I went from my 1st, which was a Honda Shadow 650, to the Suzuki. SWEET RIDE 😁, i still miss it. That "shakey/windblown/not enough power, on interstates feeling", will be long gone. It has awesome balance & foot pedestals, not pegs. I cried all day, the day I had to sell it. I don't know how tall you are, but I'm 5'6" and my feet rested securely on the ground 😉. I recommend this book to everyone wanting to learn to ride 👉 Proficient Motorcycling - the ultimate guide to riding well. I bought it, after dropping my 650 on my right leg, pulling in to fast at a gravel parking lot 🤣. It helped me so much!! I used to go to huge mall parking lots, early in the mornings, when it was empty, and practice, practice, practice. You gain skill and self confidence really well, the more you practice controlling your bike 😉.

    Good job on the ride. You definitely need a bike with bigger displacement if you’re going on the freeway. We got the slowest speed limit in the nation and that motor sounded like it was gonna blow up at 55mph. Good job at not panicking with trash bag. I once had a couch pillow hit me on Kahekili Highway 😅 and like someone commented earlier… there’s nothing like getting smack in the head by a bird.

      Hahaha yea😅 it sounds rough around 50 mph and kinda shakes a bit. I’m really looking forward to my next bike upgrade (whenever that will be) Omg a couch pillow? lol & yea…I hope I never get to experience hitting a bird 😭

    I’m 61 years old just got my license and a 883. I’m wondering if anyone has a hard time pulling in the clutch? I don’t know if it’s just a strength that I need to build up to or I’ll get used to it? I took a class and the bike they had us practice on was a rebel and that clutch was so easy. I love the bike never thought at 61 I’d get a motorcycle license ha ha. But here I am!

    • @RidewithRea

      @@deeturner hi!! I’m pretty sure they’re notorious for the clutch being hard to pull in. I also had a hard time pulling in the clutch on the 883 I rented in this video. On my rebel I can pull in the clutch no problem. Congrats on getting your license!!! 😊

    Installed this on my Rebel 300, left baffle in, wear a full helmet. Pretty sure I have permanent hearing loss.... sounds horrible above anything but idle. It might be better on a 500 where the catalytic converter isn't removed.... but not for me. The stock 300 muffler with the baffle removed honestly idles about the same, sounds better through the revs, sounds better on downshifts and won't blow your hearing out.

    Nicely done, but I'm going to say it, you need a bigger bike. I once had 10 feet of shrinkwrap come off a tractor trailer I was passing on the freeway, there was no way to avoid it. It came right up over my windshield and wrapped around my neck. I looked like superman with a transparent cape until I could find a safe place to pull off. Oh and wait til a bird hits your helmet. 😉

    This group ride seems to be more coordinated than most but I still think they're dangerous for many reasons, some obvious, some not so obvious. I have no desire to participate in one. At least not one this large. I'm already putting myself at great risk by riding my motorcycle, why would I want to add more risk to the activity? I'm very glad your group was well-behaved and worked well together. We don't want anything happening to you! :)

    • @RidewithRea
      @RidewithRea 5 днів тому

      Yes I agree with you that most group rides especially ones that are big like this can be dangerous. This group is really well-organized and I’m thankful that my first group ride was with such a great group 😊 I’m still figuring out if group riding is for me but I’m glad I had the chance the try it out and everything went safely.

    A big group ride should definitely be experienced, but after doing a few of them, I learned that I prefer to ride with no more than 3 other riders, so 4 in total. I am glad it went well for you, and I hope your spouse was able to find what was wrong with his bike... Question: How did you guys get your bike to Hawaï? By boat, I imagine... how long did it take? Ride safely!

    • @RidewithRea
      @RidewithRea 5 днів тому

      Yes I’m glad I was able to experience it! I think a smaller group around 4-6 riders sounds like the perfect amount of people for a group ride. & yes the bike seemed to be fine after we got to our location. & we both bought our bikes here! There was (and probably still is) a low stock of rebels available at the dealership here to the point where there’s even a waiting list for them. & another downside is the price is marked a lot higher here than what you can find in other states. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess if you were to purchase a bike out of state or ship it over it would take a few months & not sure how much that would all cost with the shipping fees

    Rather than a total change of bike, why not look to upgrade to the Rebel 500, you get the extra power and a little extra weight to the bike, whilst having the familiarity of a bike you love...then you could even upgrade again to the Rebel 1100.

    I have a course coming up in a month. I'm halfway through the virtual online training (required before attending)... What got me interested in motorcycles was riding ebikes for two years straight. I do that literally everyday and feel that doing that is gonna help at least a little, however I'm not pretentious to assume I know how to motorcycle. I am well aware it is a different animal. I guess the two things that I'm anxious about are the clutch and gear shifting, as someone who doesn't drive a manual (and never has) I have zero experience with that. However a lot of people have said online or in person, "yeah I had zero experience and I passed, just relax, pay attention and focus." And in case anyone sees this comment, I paid $398 even for my two day course in Arizona.
