  • Welcome, in this video we are going over making the ATC column mount as well as powder coating the parts as well as partial assembly........ It's About time it started looking like something :)
My Powder Coat equipment Oven is DIY, Powder application was done with my Columbia Coatings Hyper Smooth LED 02
    Don't have a Tormach mill?
This mechanical design could easily be adapted for a multitude of machine types such as Grizzly, Precision Mathews, CNC conversions running Mach 3
Would you like to purchase plans or parts for this ATC?

Nice build! I made a 10 tool ATC for my 440. If it's of any help, I haven't really had any issues with my linear rails on the ATC, my biggest qualm, is that I never got around to building a cover to keep chips off the tool holders. Especially since I used the factory ATC firmware as the starting point for my project, the airblast intervals aren't frequent enough to fully clear chips before a tool change.

Thanks! I plan to build the cover as I have a CNC plasma cutter to cut the material. I am using the OEM firmware i noticed it had a short air blast maybe 1 second. Will have to see if it can be changed to a longer duration.

@@iccustomsusa8048 definitely! Did you go with a pyboard? That's what I used haha. Mainly just had to remap output pins, made it a 10 tool at, instead of the 8 tool tormach normally has for the 440, and played with the stepper motor steps per revolution and stuff as I used a geared nema 17. I may rebuild mine a bit to improve it if I ever I have time, and I'd go with a larger nema 34, bigger driver and a belted pulley setup like yours. Looks great. Making am ATC was the best quality of life improvement upgrade for the tormach for sure.

@@Nordic_Goon Yes using PYboard and a custom interface PCB the PYboard badges too. Really cleans up the wiring and allows use of a small electronics box. Also I am using the Tormach "ATC connector" on the machine for my power and connection to the VFD if in the future I switch to BT

@@iccustomsusa8048 nice, I had just used the pyboard with individual components, but if I do redo the controller, I'll definitely try my hand at a custom interface board. That's something I've been wanting to dabble with.

@@Nordic_Goon In EP2 I show a little on the PCB/schematic I drew up it is relatively small for the number of in/outputs. I am on the 3rd revision after a few drafting mistakes and function additions.
