First, your kitchen is gorgeous…yes I am jealous! Second your pillow backing is beautiful. Can you make pillow to fit the tapestry without trying to shrink it? It is very easy. I think that you could take custom orders for color work sweaters and socks. They would have a steep price tag, but people pay for that stuff. I knew someone who did that in the 80’s.💗
Hi Kat. All of your baby knits are wonderful and such good ideas. Are you still doing the 10-stitch blanket? I hope that the next time we see you, we will see the little one too. ❤
Can you post the link to your stretchy bind off?
Awesome update Kat. Your projects this month are so cute and I love the idea of your Bunting bag. 😊
All of your baby/child knits are so beautiful!
Lovely baby knits! I especially like the blanket.
Hi Lat. I love all of those baby knits. I really like your yarn idea for the 10 stitch blanket, it looks really cool and it will be very warm.
Thanks so much! I do love some colour with baby knits. <3
Your baby knits are so adorable!!!
Aww thank you! I appreciate it! <3
Congratulations on your pregnancy!! 💝 And I love baby knits so much! They're so fun and precious 🥰
Thank you! They have definitely increased the cutest of my hand knits :D
I made both the 'coming home set' and the 'romper' they were so much fun. Particularly the little dress rompers and the instructions were nice and clear. Good luck, I look forward to hearing how you go. BTW congratulations...so much fun becoming a new Mum
Thanks so much! Rompers are so adorable, and I'm glad to hear you had fun making them. Are there any other pattern's you'd recommend? It's surprisingly hard to find baby patterns!
OMG congrats Katharine! I'm so happy and excited for you and your little baby girl ❤ Sending lots of love from Korea, Ji
Hi Ji! Thanks! <3 We are pretty excited. It's been fun following your adventures and your knitting in Korea. Hope things are going well at home!
Congratulations on your big news! That's really exciting. Knitting for babies is the best!
Thank you! I totally agree. I love making the little patterns <3
What's surprising about this jacket is the pattern is written so poorly!
Congratulations on your baby news.
Thank you! <3
Congratulations!
Thanks you! <3
Congratulations on your growing family! What wonderful news. Congratulations on your February WIP sorting and finishing. It must feel great to get that done.
Thank you! It does feel good to be organized again. It's amazing how quickly things get messy. Hopefully I can wrap up some of those other WIPs throughout this year too. Hope you are having a good spring!
I've made dk weight socks in one skein twice now. The first had 252 yards and the second had 234 yards. I did ruin out of yarn at the top of the toe on the second sock so I just ripped back the first sock and added contrast toes to both. That didn't happen on the skein that had 252 yards. I made joji Locatelli's chapelco socks both times. Great socks.
Ooo good to know! That's a great idea with the contrast toe. I have quite a bit of DK scraps, so I bet I could make DK socks with one skien and some left over yarn. Thanks for letting me know. I have been dreaming of some cozy socks, which I imagine DK socks would be.
The teal sweater looks so nice with your new hair colour!
Thank you! I'm liking being a brunette more than I expected. Also, sorry for the slow response - I spent some time away from youtube :)
Thank you so much. The directions in the book felt a bit ooaque. SEEING it made a huge difference.
I'm looking forward to watching your progress on the Unst sweater! Could you share the video you watched to learn Continental purling? It would be much appreciated, 😀
Sorry for the slow response - I took some time away from UA-cam. I used this one: ua-cam.com/video/zOtHIytb-MI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=NimbleNeedles. I also put it in the notes and will try to remember for next time! The video is a bit long, but worth a watch :)
@@katknits Thanks very much Kat!
The zipper issue is so interesting! I made a cowichan sweater years ago and used a small toothed zipper that didn’t look right….now I know why!!
Thanks for the zipper! I didn't know you made a cowichan sweater? I'll have to see it next time I am over.
Hey just an observation that your title says 2023! Thanks so much for sharing your content
Haha, oops! Thanks for pointing that out! I wish I could say that's the first time I still thought it was 2023. I'm going to update it :)
Hi, I'm a new subscriber from Upstate NY (the mountains, not the city). I look forward to following your progress with the Marie Wallin Cardi, substitutions and all. I swatched years ago for one of her sweaters, using local yarn, and I think using the called for yarn and colors, will eliminate some of the frustrations I had. I never progressed past the swatch, which I turned into a cowl! Some day I'll bite the bullet and buy a Sidsel Hoivik Cardigan kit . I love her designs. Thanks for showing the mitten pattern.. I knit a hat by Woollywormhead using the same sideways short rows. it was fun, but required attention. I may try those mittens.
Welcome! :) I think it may be slow progress on the cardigan as I tend to get easily distracted. I bet once I get to the colourwork section though it will fly more! Choosing colours is so hard - I totally understand getting frustrated by it. I'm glad you found a use for your swatch! Also I hadn't heard of Sidsel Hoivik before and just checked out her patterns. Wowza those designs are beautiful and unique! Thanks for sharing. And thanks for the other tip about Wollywormhead. I wish I had more time to knit in a day! There are just so many pretty patterns to knit and too little time.
I also like BFL/nylon blend sock yarn but I love Corriedale/nylon blend sock yarn even more; the Corriedale/nylon blend seems even warmer somehow. At some point, I want to try a Targhee/nylon blend sock yarn and a yak/nylon blend sock yarn.
Ooo no way! I've never tried Corridale wool, but that sounds awesome! Do you have a brand that you suggest? I've also wanted to try a Yak/Nylon blend - I think farmer daughters farmer released one - but I'm always hesitant to purchase as a Canadian with all the import fees!
@katknits I usually have done a random search for the blend I'm interested in on Etsy and then decide on a color I like. For 2024, I'm working from my stash, so I'll be creating a wish list of "to buy yarns" and other goodies for 2025.
@@theyarngoeson Oo I've never tried Etsy for yarn! Thanks for the tip. All the best with stash diving!
Thank you! So quick and to the point, great tips for this jacket.
Aw thank you! I appreciate it!
The thanks montage was way too cute omg, congrats!
Thank you!! <3
How about overdying the yarn.
Ooo I've never done that before! I've heard of others doing that and have been wanting to get into dying. I think that might be the way to go!
I bought a sweater’s quantity of yarn on sale recently and the store let me know the skeins were different dye lots. We actually discussed if it was noticeable before they shipped them out. With the sale of the business, I can understand how they are probably trying to clear out a physical location and there could be some urgency. I would take care when buying a sweater’s quantity of yarn at any time and request the same dye lot during purchase. Everything looked lovely. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! It's definitely a great idea to buy yarn of the same dye lot if possible. Especially when knitting a sweater! It's too much work for it to have different coloured sleeves.
I’m so glad you guys were able to go! I heard there were so many amazing things and your planning and research ahead of time paid off!
We had so much fun! I totally recommend going - it's also a great excuse to visit New York! I was really surprised at how big it was. We weren't able to see everything and we really tried. Also, Happy New Year! I'm excited to see what knitting you get up to :)
Congrats Kat! That’s a wonderful milestone to hit and you are so deserving of it with all the effort you have been putting into your videos 😊
Thanks Ruth! I am pretty excited. Hope you have a great holiday season!
Even with pattern and books I'm not able to make the BSJ. All knitting shops near me have closed. Thank you for your video.
Hi there! Have you been able to figure it out? It is a complicated pattern, so you aren't alone. There is this great series on UA-cam, which walks through each part of the jacket: ua-cam.com/video/xMirlP_YuXo/v-deo.html&ab_channel=L2Belt. Let me know if you have any questions!
❤❤
Maybe you could make your mittens into fingerless mitts. Then you might have enough of the mohair for two. Thanks for sharing your work.
Ooo great idea! I'm going to measure that out and see if it would work. Then I can use them with my phone too. Thank you for sharing!
Very informative ! Thank you ! A score for me thanks to the YT algorithm 👍. I like structure in my sweaters . I don’t understand why so many new designers insist on avoiding a seam across the shoulder and make these complex ways of knitting top down .
I'm glad you liked it! I agree, structure to sweaters is great. I think it also makes them last longer!
So funny! I am making the same mittens with the App! Love the App and the pattern!
No way! What a coincidence! I love that pattern too - hope your mitts are working out :)
That sweater looks beautiful! Just curious... what wooden needles do you like? Was curious about what you were using for the new sweater.
Those were Knitters Pride Dreamz series! They're the only wooden needles I've tried and I've knit many projects with them. I enjoy their DPNs! Do you have a needle brand that you prefer?
Hi from North Van! Your Guernsey Genser is gorgeous! I was going to knit the Storm sweater but after seeing your Guernsey I changed my mind. My yarn is darkish grey too. And I also have the pattern. I am sure I commented on your last video but that comment is gone. I found a video for a nice two by two italian bind off (without switching to 1 by 1 first) It's a learning curve but worth it. I have done it on two sweaters now. It's by Irina Revo Knitting & Crochet.
Oh no way, thanks for sharing the new bind off! I will definitely check it out. And sorry to hear that the comment disappeared - it seems to be happy fairly frequently with UA-cam. Unfortunately I can't control it, so thanks for taking the time to let me know about this handy tip again!
Thanks for the tip on marking the middle of your sweater sections so you know which side you missed an increase on.
Thanks! I can't remember who I learnt that from, but it is handy. It's amazing how many use cases there are for stitch markers!
Oooh I really like the Guernsey Genser in your yarn and the fit on you. I was hesitant over how low the drop shoulder was on the model and well as the drape overall. I usually knit with non superwash too so I'm excited to see how good it looks on you! I might cast that on too!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words - it's always great to hear when you spend so long on something. I'm very happy with how it turned out and totally recommend it! It does take a lot of yarn though, so that is a con. Also, I just checked out your channel and subscribed - I'm excited to follow along. Happy Knitting!
It would be nice to see the full sweater you're wearing and how it fits. You said you made it in your size and that it's it well, I would love to see how much ease there is. I'm getting ready to cast it on myself with light fingering speckled yarn and silk mohair. If you use a small crochet hook for laddering it is much easier. Bring it all the way up to meet your needles and knit. It happens to all of us. Experienced o😊r not.
Thanks for letting me know - I'll make sure to include a shot in my next podcast! I agree. It is great to see how a sweater fits someone when they are standing and moving around. And thanks for the tip about the crochet hook. I really should invest in one as it seems to come in handy quite a bit.
You should have a couple of crochet hooks. I use them for error repairs…mostly for laddering dropped stitches.
I think you are right. I need to invest in a couple! I'm always making mistakes, so they would certainly be used :D I bet I could even find some at a second hand store for pretty cheap.
I and envious of anyone able to take on a Wallin pattern. I have the Jamison yarn (left over from gnome knitting). Mi thought I would use it to make her mitts….pattern is skerries.
Those mitts are gorgeous! I think you should go for it. I'm keeping my expectations low for when I will finish it - I could see it taking a year or so.
Hint...before trying on a half knitted sweater, just slip half the forward stitches onto another circular needle than after trying on continue knitting off temporarily needle, if the spare needle is smaller it doesn't matter.
Great idea! I should keep my smaller circular needles handy so I remember to do this. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Kay, I just found your channel and enjoyed watching your video so I subscribed. I liked the patterns, colors, and yarns you choose. I’m a brand new knitter just finishing my first project, wrist warmers. I wanted to ask you about the Breed of the month subscription. Is the amount that is sent each month a lot or is it just enough for a small project? I love the idea of using those yarns but I really don’t know anything about yarn yet and I don’t want to accumulate yarn, I just want enough for whatever current project I’m working on. Also since I’m a new knitter I’m not a fast knitter and may never be. My next one is going to be a hat. It may be better for me to wait until I have more experience before having yarn sent monthly. What do you think? Thank you for sharing your opinion! ❤
Congrats on finishing your first project - that's awesome! A hat sounds like a great second project. Be careful, you might become addicted to knitting! I also prefer to not accumulate yarn, which doesn't go well with a monthly yarn subscription. So far, I haven't knit with a single skien! It depends on if the yarn each month would be a joy or a stresser. Although I haven't had a chance to knit with monthly yarn yet - I'm still very excited each time a new skien arrives. Happy Knitting!
I love the background change in this video. Seems so much cozier!
Aww, thanks for noticing! I've been thinking about how to make my background more inviting for a while. I'm glad to hear it feels more cozy!
A warm hello from the chilly Yukon! I really enjoy your podcast. I saw the Guernsey Sweater when it was making the rounds a little while ago and I was neither here nor there on it, but I think you’ve convinced me that there really should be one in my future! 😉
Hello! Nice to meet a fellow Canadian :) Hope you're enjoying the long weekend! The Guernsey is a lot of fun to knit - it's a large sweater, but with enough interesting stitch patterns to keep it entertaining. I totally recommend it!
Also, I see that you also have a knitting channel - I just subscribed and am excited to check out your episodes. Happy knitting!
Thank you for the podcast. No links or time stamp for the Guthrie Sweater - C. Hunter. Really beautifully knit by you. :)
Thank you for noticing that! I just updated the description to include a link. You can find the pattern here: boylandknitworks.com/patterns/guthrie. I'm not planning to put a time stamp in this episode as I don't talk about the construction/my modifications. I should have timestamps for it in my earlier episodes (I think I finished it in June 2023). ua-cam.com/video/Yk0z3KEbiQw/v-deo.html
Honestly, I'm just here for the all grey sweaters and loved hearing about them. I do something similar but in black.
Haha thanks <3. The funny thing is, I didn't realize I was only knitting grey sweaters until I was editing the video. Black is also a great sweater colour - I would love to knit a black sweater!
@@katknits I love neutral colors and grey is one of my favorite colors. Just a quick tip: if you're going to knit a black sweater, get a neck light. Very helpful.
I've seen those all over instagram and wondered how well they worked! Glad to hear they work well. @@Enig_Mata
You can do a small icord instead of crochet chain as the button loop in the future
That's a great idea! I should have done that - it would have been much sturdier than the crochet chain I created. Thanks for letting me know!
I was intrigued by the Seli cardigan, and I went down a rabbit hole hunting for info! I found that Summer Lee has a fabulous pattern called Amberwing socks with an amazing corresponding video available on UA-cam that is a great entry to the Estonian roosimine style knitting with floats carried in the front as a decorative design element. Also I have admired from afar Teti Lutsak patterns, she also has video tutorials. I can't wait to get started on this tpe of stranded knitting. Thank you for inspiring me ❤
Wow Teti Lutsak has beautiful patterns. I just want to knit them all! Thanks for sharing - I am also inspired! I think I might see if I can get wool for one of those. I've followed Summer Lee for a while and love her sock patterns. I haven't knit one yet, but those Amberwing socks are gorgeous!
