I made a few random sounds today with the pittsburgh taiga. Kind of structured like a video game with the start menu, intro, world map etc.

First bit is really cool, reminds me of LFO
@@AdAsteris That is a band name I haven't heard in a while. I'll have to check them out again
You have to set your PC up for audio production. If you use it in standard windows configuration you will have problems. I've been using Access Virus Ti2 polar for over 10 years. Never had any problems with anything. SET YOUR PC UP.
I'll have to watch this one in a couple of days. Just lockin shit down for our 6th in 4 wks. Not a direct hit but Cat.5 @ SuperTyphoon. Due here in 12 hrs. Something cool to watch after clean up.
Wow you're not catching a break. I imagine you smoking a cig drinking coffee and reading a magazine casually while everything falls apart around you!
@@ModIcore Something like that,, our area just went up to a Cat.2. I picked up some extra rope & made extra tie points, I hope its gonna be enough. Cant eat, cant enjoy your music in the moment at this moment. Any other tree that might've reached the house was deleted this morning so there's that. Apparently it's more rain than gusts, I can live with that, we're waterproof. Its those gusts that wanna take the roof away that freak me out. No point stressing over it though, hope for the best, prepare for the worst. There's always someone worse off, like the Tornado Alley people over there. Those things can pickup cars & go for a joyride. Pickup cows & put them back down as Burger patties.
@@AA-ge4uj "I hope it's going to be enough" oof. Glad you're over preparing. I hope for the best too. Why are you not able to eat? Yeah the tornados are wild. They appear out of nowhere. Lot of basements there.
@@ModIcore And there it goes, missed again, even though the forecast showed us getting hammered. We got a Cat.1-2, can do that one asleep, not even a clean up to do. Apparently, if the storms are close together, the one at the front will influence the one following & pulled it away from us. I can eat but typhoon food is like ham & mustard sandwich or Ramen noodles, forget about roast pork or anything like that, everything's packed away just in case. It's 9:30am so after a couple of hours of catch up sleep I can watch the latest Taiga vid.
@@AA-ge4uj Good to hear. Drastic changes quickly! The Meteorologists here get a lot of flak here for being way wrong a lot. They have cool imagery and usually cute, but 10% of what they say happens. We don't get Typhoons n stuff though! No cheese with the ham? What!
The audio interface I record in to was clipping. Not sure why it started to do it now (rowdy taiga???) but some parts of the video will have clicks. Didn't bother me too much when producing.
Back in the day we called this “noodling” 😂 Well done! Hope your memory improves 😊
@@NexxuSix Ahhh noodling of course! I think I just thought live and went with it. Will have to make a fun thumbnail of noodles now haha and I am feeling better - thank you!
Whta a great sounding instrument! Nice work
It's very inspirational. Each turn of a knob brings in new useable ideas
squishy!
Back in High School, we did a couple of weeks Work Experience. I already knew that I'd be doing something related to electronics & communications so as a novelty, I went down the list of available workplaces & their respective Salaries. One of the top 5 on the list was Mortuary/Funeral Assistant. Don't know if it was curiosity or the weed, that's where I went. I rocked up the first day to find the owner was also a collector of Organs (no pun intended) of allsorts & when he wasn't preparing the dead, he enjoyed tickling the ivories all day long. I was scarred for life. At 17 min on your vid, with the red filter & organ vibes, I had flashbacks. Wish I had a reefer now.
Haha that does sound traumatic. The organ is an intense sound. Think of the makeup artist getting the corpse ready and getting into it listening to that! You have to eventually right???
The first 4 units I ever purchased were, SH-101, Dr 55, Ibanez analog delay & the RS-09 Strings & Organ. The RS09 still sounds great today. Actually, the older & dirtier those circuits get, the better it sounds.
@AA-ge4uj Dirty circuits just sound great on analog synths. This is why it was hard finding a replacement for the mono/poly. You must of been happy when digital synths came out and was able to make all sorts of fun organ sounds! I know you don't like the dx7, but that was good for them (sines!)
Yep, when DCOs started happening, I scored DX7 & the Crumar Bit-01 Rack. I just didn't like the tacky UI on the DX, like the Japs at Yamaha got lazy. If they'd have made a strap-on Programmer like Roland did I would've been a happy camper. The Bit 01 gets my vote. Mono/Poly was just out of financial range back then & none available 2nd hand yet. I pointed funds at the 808 coz Dr55 was done & 303/606 which were sold as a Marked-down Set & finally a Korg VC-10 coz electronic music is poopoo without a robot voice. Oh, and a Yamaha CX5M I picked up because it ran the OPL Chipset, like the DX. It made a decent budget 47-key Master keyboard plugged into the Atari SX booting off a Cubase Floppy. Fun times. They can keep their "Dawless", in those days, we prayed for what we have today. You can give someone an OsTIrus with 60,000 Presets on a USB Flash & they'll love you for it. I can open Cubase & not think about how much cash I'll need for a decent digital delay to get some doubling happening. It has Delay, plus Flanger, plus Phaser, plus Distortion, now it has Modulators. Hats off to the coders. Dawless is overrated. & going backwards.
Don't be so harsh on you, it's a jam, relax. And who needs a Sequencer, you can actually play. Have you tried Cubase pro 14 yet? Don't know if it's included in what you purchased. It has an Ableton style Drum Rack now called Drum Track. ByeBye Rewire. It also dances a very fine line of Bitwig Copyright Infringement but who cares?
@@AA-ge4uj Thanks AA. I haven't tried C14 and I don't get a free upgrade as I bought it in May and upgrade grace is from August. Didn't they have something kinda similar called groove agent? It just seemed more cumbersome though. It looks like you can load Bitwig projects in now cool. I wonder if in 10 years Yamaha buys them all and you just select which one you want to use when you load Cubase. They all overlap anyway.
Maybe? The Germans so ingenious & the Japs so practical, I wouldn't be surprised. We're just waiting for Typhoon #2 in the same week to blow by, with #3 & #4 waiting in the queue. All the trackings so far have placed us just on the outside of all the cones of death so I'm still jamming.

Never liked that word, seen'as my name is Arthur, always the sad jokes in school days. Shame about that though. I'd've loved to see a live-jam one day where you use a clip-based drum track & 1 of the synths is midi'd as a bassline & you playing lead & chords live on the other 2. Maybe even FX & other stuff on other channels as midi with the Virus in MultiMode.I know you have the playing skills, didn't know about the Arthuritis.
We were outside the "cone of death" so just got the rubbish that comes off the side of it. It was only a Signal 1 but had unusually fast Gusts & a shitload of rainfall. Since implementing the tie-down system on the roof, its not a hassle anymore. I already deleted any trees that might hit us if they fall. Finally based on past disaster-levels of flooding, the maximum our house would get inside is about 6 inches & everything lives above that since last year's nightmare. The genny lives outside, covered & sitting on a couple of monster ATV tyres & even though the local power company implements a preventative island-wide shutdown during an event, our power never dies. Our island is called Marinduque if you ever wanna check it out on a map.

Thanks! That sounds like good time. Sun, music, dancing! I have actually never heard my music on a PA. Would be fun! Lot of trees here, would probably have nice woody reflections. I made a making music today too but was so frustrated with a cubase glitch and my setup that I'm not sure I want to post it. Took an hour and only got about a minute of music. I learned a lot about my setup though which helped me to make this track.
Back in the day, we (3 of us) used to do what we did through the week in our bedrooms but come Sunday, we had a Rehearsal space permanently rented with all our allowances, 10am-10pm. 4ltr Red wine, 4ltr White wine, 14 gms of Parsley & the good old Roland PA-250. You don't really know what your gear sounds like until it's made to push some big-ass speaker cones back'n'forth. Black & white different. It forces you to make adjustments to many of your patches. There were some patches that I used to have Studio version & separate PA version & that was before Subs were even a thing. Son of Cray Supercomputer sitting in your bedroom & Cubase is glitching? Was it doing anything like that with the old box or Cubase 5? Maybe your friend's kitten has crawled inside looking for a warm spot to relax?
@@AA-ge4uj What do you think of the line array speakers? My friend who gigs hates those. Cubase was recording when pressing play. It may be because it is punching in; can press i or o keyboard shortcuts to activate them but I don't think that is the issue for me. Restarting usually fixes it, but didn't when I tried during recording. Funny thing is, when I reloaded the project a 3rd time it fixed itself. Had to be when I was done recording! Seems to be a glitch since cubase 10.
Never had the pressure of working with those but anything "Speaker" gets my attention coz that's kind of how I gained my interest in electronics. My father used to design speakers, Enclosures & Crossover networks. I'd like to have a look at the setup procedure for the line arrays. I did an Audio Engineering course in the early 90's. They taught us how to setup various Live situations but the line arrays weren't that popular back them & so the course didn't cover them. Thanks, now I'm probly going to be scouring UA-cam to try'n find a vid to see how it's done. Re Cubase, that's a shitty glitch. There are other glitches that have become trendy to use in songs but not that one.
@Synthitate Nice video! I read through the comments and see you’re having a few technical issues… One thing you might want to do is graduate over to Ableton. There are plenty of tools in Ableton, like glitch machines, audio tools, to include soft synths as well that can expand your music. As for speakers, I have a pair of Carvin reference monitors and a matching amp that pushes 75W rms… plenty for a small room. I have had my music play through a huge PA system a few times… as long as the system is set up right, and EQ properly, it will sound good. Yes, your environment has a lot to do with how your music will sound also. Phasing and EQ play major roles with this. One “test” you can do is to run your music through a mono bluetooth speaker. JBL and ONN make those… If your music sounds great through that, then you know it phased and EQ right. Also check it in various other locations / devices, like a car, or boombox, indoors, outdoors, various rooms, etc. Cheers!😊
wow I didn't realize how much gain staging affected the sound of the Taiga. Great sounds!
yeah kind of wild. I found out today that there is bleed of the oscillators even with volumes at 0. I had a sine bass and couldn't figure out where the high pitched sound was coming from for a while
I like how this synth has the "classic" analogue sound but with modern features like a low pass gate. Sounds phat!
The little things it has to bring it to the modern age really make it worth it to me. They really packed a lot into this and the price feels like a steal. Going to take so much time figuring out though; the waveshapes alone are so sensitive and hard to find the shape you are looking for (like the sync wave in my video that ended up just being fmish, I remembered it being 3quarters turned but nope!)
@@ModIcore yeah I noticed the hard sync was “key sensitive” what I mean is that on low notes it wasn’t too noticeable but on higher notes it was more pronounced and did sound fmish too, I did like the delay on it that sounds super cool 🙂
@@psilocinsoundz So much I need to learn!
It's always a buzz listening to someone else's design of fundamentally the same circuits but with "their" flavor, instead of the same old same old. The difference is obvious & unique, I like it. A perfect complement to your collection. Somewhere down the line, I'm thinking Patch Cable Rack/Hanger?
I was thinking about that too. All the little differences combined make it interesting. I don't know why I love synths, but this one hits a sweet spot for me! Though the cables, UGH THE CABLES!!! I have been trying to think of where to put them and don't know yet. I don't know what I'm going to do.
I am also using MR816 (actually 5 of them connected together), but with Mac Pro 2013. Running with 128 buffer size at 44.1KHz is pretty stable (Cubase 11 Pro).
The pres sound so good! The unit is super cheap now. Glad you have a stable setup with a low buffer size! Are you using a firewire pci card?
@@ModIcore Yes, I like the sound too. And they are convenient with Cubase. My 3 interfaces daisy-chained using FireWire and connected to my Mac Pro 2013 (trashcan) using Apple FireWire to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. Other 2 interfaces connected using ADAT to other 2 interfaces (among those daisy-chained ones connected by FireWire). The only drawback is that Steinberg dropped support and never bothered to release 64-bit driver for Mac. So I am staying on Mac OS X 10.14 (Mojave) for now. Don’t see much reason to upgrade, honestly.
@@serhiymarchenko8361 Yes! I love the quick connect feature. I am surprised the adapter is working out so well! It seems so picky. I would have been content with my old computer, but video editing is what prompted me to get a new one. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality of life improvements in my upgrade. I thought it was going to be a lot of letting go to old software and habits, but it was not the case.
neat! looking forward to hearing what you come up with that.
@ Synthitate: I see that this is a patchable synth, much like the Moog Matriarch. Learn to use patch cables on this synth, and you can literally discover a whole new world with it. Nice synth!
I have heard it is similar to the Matriarch! Yeah, I like the option to make it modular if I want. It is an awesome world this modular. Looking forward to producing with it :)
This would work very well with tiptop buchla modules, especially quad function generator and source of uncertainty. Proper analogue this taiga!!
@@psilocinsoundz Ooo function generator looks cool. Love the buchla aesthetic. Don't they require certain voltages or something though? I filled the euro space with a hexiverter mutant hot glue. @@ModIcore if you get the recent tiptop versions they are eurorack standard and cheaper. Tiptop audio are working with buchla to remake the buchla modules for eurorack and a lot cheaper aswell as some buchla modules go for $$$ and are 5u instead of 3u. I have the Oscar, function generator and voltage processor and these modules are the dogs bollox! Everything on the Osc is modulated, and the function generator is awesome you can “daisy chain” each function to start when the previous function finishes, so it’s like 4 lfo’s/envelopes in a sequence!
Sorry osc not Oscar! Damn auto correct on my phone!
They are one thousand bucks in Australia. I recon excellent bang for bucks. Hope you didn't have to trade one of the other two to get it, that would be going backwards. I love all the colors on top of all the knobs, I did that to my SH-101 a couple of days after I purchased it, easier to spot stuff in dim lighting & half-closed eyelids. Enjoy & tff, tff, tff....that's a pretend-spit that Greek people do stop the Envious Eye, I guess kinda like licking a pork chop & saying "that's mine" & putting it back on the platter.
It sounds great and am happy with whatever comes out of it. The delay takes a specific taste though. Anyways the vco/filters are exactly what I was looking for in an analog synth. I am putting it on credit so that I can improve my score so no plans on selling anything! I thought the colors could be subdued a lil because they have the forest vibe and is more "organic". It makes sense what you're saying though - wish I could see yoursh-101! That is funny about the tff & tff; I am sure you will be enjoying the sounds of it with me though! I plan on using it a lot. Hope you and the fam are doing okay over there. My client thought her kitty was lost this morning and it is hard to deal with.
I hope she finds her Kitty. It might be on what we call "The 1st Big Adventure", which is literally that. As they grow up, with every stroll, they make a mental map of their surroundings. It's like one day they want to test it, combined with curiosity of all the surrounding smells, launches them. After that, it's up to them to make it home in one piece or not. As humans, nothing we can do about it except pray. After all, cats are still essentially wild in that through history, they never benefited(?) from human-controlled selective breeding becoming more & more docile, like dogs. If you release a cat in the wild, it has all the faculties, mental & physical to survive. If you do the same to a dog, it's dead within a week. We are up to number 8 or 9 in the forecast of 16 typhoons before Xmas, dodged the bullet every time so far (as he knocks on wood). The thing that bugs me about a lot of synths, new & old, I prefer my ADSR on sliding faders, it gives you a better idea of the shape at a glance.
@@AA-ge4uj The kitty did come back! Thank gosh. Interesting, I never thought about their ability to live in the wild no matter how domesticated they are! I find a lot of cats get scared, then run and can't find their way back. I had two cats that did that. Do you forsee the typhoons getting worse? I'm concerned because if that happens, there is an even slimmer chance of dodging it. As for envelopes, I get that. The problem is with patch storage it isn't usually correct. I think folks from your home country made rotary knobs to adjust to each latch setting but missed the opportunity to have sliders for the env. I've disliked sliders mainly because they get noisy faster. Wishing the best.
Hmmm. Maybe our cats have an advantage because they have about 40 brothers & sisters feeding their scent into the air & once the breeze is in their favor they can home-in on home. Thanks to climate change, typhoons have started forming closer to land than they used to so less warning time & apparently they've gotten bigger so that super-typhoons (mass) are almost the norm now. They do freaky shit too, like the one that hit us last Xmas, it struck us, went away & then a day later did a proper U-turn & got us again on New Years Day so yeah, Unhappy New Year that one. I still get a buzz out of them though coz we don't have anything like this in Sydney. Once every 10 years up in the far-north but zilch where we are so it's kinda like being in a Nat Geo Doco as long as that falling tree keeps it's distance, we're good.
@@AA-ge4uj Ah. This cat has 3 sisters. There are a few other cats around but not many. Glad you find excitment in the bipolar typhoons. Not knowing when to relax would stress me out! We have earthquakes here, but the big ones happen more south/north for some reason; you know, where our biggest cities are. I feel like typhoons would be easier to forsee due to weather patterns. There's earthquake weather believed here where it's hot with little wind before one hits but that seems like superstition.
One of the best digital hardware synth in history 🙏 Thank you 🎹✨
You're welcome! It is a great synth
Nice tune! I like how the melody “follows” the bass and drum rhythms and all gels well together ❤
Thank you! I was worried that there may be too much going on with the melodies which is why I used a filter and delay to make it more dynamic. Glad to hear it is all jelling and that you liked it 😊 Btw, I just purchased the Taia keyboard! I read through manual and it is so interesting. I'm very excited!
@@ModIcore nice! Enjoy!
Nice & chill, I love the bassline. Did you put this together in the daytime or in the evening?
Glad you like it! I thought the bassline may not jive with some so I'm happy to hear this. I made it during the day I think. It was about a month after the pro 2 video.
Have you thought about doing a collab with any other synth users?
I have, but I live far from others. I have a friend locally, but haven't jammed in years. It would be cool to have a collab! Lot of inspiration comes from it
Lovely jam 😊visuals are excellent too!
Thank you! Happy accidents (both visuals and programming). How is your new controller working out?
@@ModIcore my pc has been away for repair for a few weeks and should be back tomorrow and haven’t been able to use it much. Keen to try out the arp function on soft synths as I got my hardware synths working on it via midi and cv, it works like a dream on those I just need to learn how to use the sequencers to work with virtual synths. I can play vsti’s easily via the keyboard and record/program patterns but there is a lot more to learn it’s a great bit of kit though! It is expensive but worth it for programming 4 oscs simultaneously and running midi out. It’s like a midi and cv control centre. It doesn’t need Cubase to run cv but need it for vsti’s. Sometimes happy accidents are the best! ❤️
@@psilocinsoundz Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about your computer problems. I hope they're remedied soon for you to figure out the vst connectivities. It is funny as I was just thinking today "all I need is software" and went down this path thinking about it (I do that a lot and always say ❤ hardware in the end); your experience brought me back to hardware quickly haha. I think having a main controller that does what you want is worth it for the price. It sounds like you're getting a lot out of it. I am not sure how connecting to vsts will work in C13 as I am having some trouble with the instrument channels and midi in general. Automation and midi ccs in the editor are great though. Hope it goes smoothly. I have been thinking of getting a semi-modular desktop synth to play with the Pro 2's cv! Might see that sometime soon.
@@ModIcore good entry point for semi modular would be moog or Behringer neutron synths which could be controlled by cv lfos etc on the pro 2. I love hardware synths but find vsts quicker to get results but don’t sound as good, the hands-on experience of hardware is great and you don’t get that with software. Vsti’s are good for starting out but using hardware synths is totally different
@@psilocinsoundz Thanks for the recs! I built a modular some years ago so not new to it. I just don't want to build one from scratch again as it's a lot of work and I want more simplicity. I am thinking of the intellijel cascadia as I love their modules but leaning more towards pittsburg taiga due to price. We'll see over the next few weeks. Uhe Diva has an amazing sound that I think rivals the sound of hardware. It just can never sound the same especially with the analog out. Hardware foevaaa!
Perfect 😮
Thank you! I didn't have it in me to make the chorus, but may come back to it at some point.
I just love your simplicity on creation
i used to be very in depth, but now i do not want to spend the time. it can take away from the ideas!
@@ModIcore I know exactly what you mean
wow I love the way you create sounds , and yes I agree access ti 2 synth is one of the best made so far
i will have to make another soon then! easy to get lost in programming it. glad you like it!
Seems that Virus is your favorite instrument. Could you mention some of your reasons why you are like it so much? Thank you.
Yes, it's the one I've decided to hold on to over the years. If I had the funds and space, I would've kept all of my gear though! -I like the Virus's sound engine: classic subtractive with this high quality real instrument tone. The classic real instrument emulation like strings n brass just sound good to me. -The keyboard is my favorite though the new ones I tried may have an edge on it now! -The user interface just speaks to me and I can maneuver easily to tweak settings. I made a Virus Ti appreciation video here: ua-cam.com/video/5XQpszO6YfM/v-deo.htmlsi=JMcGd0C1_LPa-eQ4
