I understand what you are going through completely. We have been raising my grandson for 8 years. My daughter has been in recovery now for two years and has been living with us with her son. It was very hard to turn over the reins at first because of my lack of trust with her. As time has gone on it has become easier. I encourage my grandson to go to his mom first when he needs something. After two years sober she is driving again. That has brought a whole new level of anxiety for me. Fortunately for me, my daughter includes me in all important conversations or decisions. I think she doesn’t always trust her own judgment sometimes. We work as a team. We go to meetings and appointments together. The first year was a little rough dealing with my daughter’s healing and my grandson adjusting to having his mom with him again. The second year has been easier. We have got a rhythm and I have slowly backed away. PTSD is very real. If she is 5 minutes late I can get into panic mode quickly. I keep it to myself but it is difficult.

I've been dealing with my daughter's addiction for over 20 years. She has my only grandchild that's 4yrs old. I didn't get to see either one for the holidays. I did get to drop off some gifts for. Today we had 3 video phone call. She is asking for family counseling. I've made my share of mistakes as well. Keep the prayers going for your child. Don't give up... But set your boundaries.

I got my grandson at 4 months ,his sisters 15 and 13. He will be 11 and stays with me still. This is his home. He won't hardly go with his mom. But shes not there for him at all.its sad. The girls are grown. Abbie is expecting her 2nd child. She moved far away.We miss her.

I’m still waiting for change. Meanwhile, my granddaughter gets older without her mom…but grandma is here. They now have supervised visits…it’s a start, but there’s such a long road ahead. Trust will always be an issue. So boundaries will always be in place, but putting my sweet granddaughters needs first is always my goal.

It’s hard to let go or feel that you are losing him to an extent.

I'm proud of your son for being 5 months sober. It's very difficult to give trust after so many years. I have been dealing with my daughter for about twelve years (alcoholic) and she went to rehab last year and got out and after 109 days relapsed and has not been sober for more than a week since. I thank the lord every day that she doesn't have children. I hand it to you to have been able to take in your grandson. I pray all goes well and that your son realizes what a gift he has in you and his son. Bless you! Happy New Year may be a great year.

Any normal parent would have trust issues. Waiting for anything to pop off.

I have had my grandchildren since birth. Newborns are alot of work and no sleep then your older. My husband is the only dad they have had. He takes them fishing to basketball practice and games. They wanted to try soccer so, we bought cleets, uniforms and paid fees. The last thing my husband wants to teach them is hunter safety and go hunting with them. He is 73. Thank God he is in good health and shape.

I have been at it for 13 years and 2 of my addicts live with me, one in recovery for 7 years, one couple months, The battle with emotions from what i can see are here for the journey, I completly understand the Journey, so do Millions of other grandparents who are doing the same thing, going thru the same emotions, ITS HARD, but the kids are worth it. My sister had to take in her grandson when he was newborn. She adjusted her whole like for it. He’s 9 now and even though he could live with his parents now, he wanted to stay with her and that has been fine with all of them. Bless you for what you’ve done

Something people don't know about our love ones on drugs. There comes a point the drugs damage their brains permanently. My son had a seriously mentally illnesses. I had a mental breakdown from all the stress and no one to share what I was going through. He passed away at 42.
