Bonus Footage: Early Season @ Northstar, Dec 2023
As we are mere days away from starting the 2024-25 ski season, I wanted to clear out some footage that got neglected from a year ago.
That day did not make a compelling full video, with the cameras in the wrong settings and poor snow conditions, so I decided to upload it as a bonus footage video. Then I realized its long enough to be a full video - but I didn't want to bother with music and fancy editing.
And with that, all the footage from last season has officially been processed, and we can move into the next season with a clean slate!

Making the Best of the Last of the Snow at Kirkwood - April 20, 2024
Переглядів 50214 днів тому
Our last day of spring skiing at the end of the 2023-24 season was too warm for my jacket, and the snow quality matched those weather conditions. Still, we got some decent runs in early on, and we all conquered Chair 6 one last time before the end of the season. With 2024-25 just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if we start back up where we left off, or if it is going to take a ...
Bonus Footage: Ski Swap - Moment Wildcat Test Drive
Переглядів 732Місяць тому
At Timber Creek, Chris and I swapped skis, with me hopping on his Moment Wildcat 101's and him on my Armada Declivity 92ti's. We both enjoyed it so much, we didn't want to swap back through the end of the day. Now, Chris has a pair of Armada Declivity's joining his Wildcat 101's, and I traded out my Liberty Origin 101's for a pair of Wildcat 108's. It took us until a couple months ago to make t...
Full Send: Fast Laps on a Spring Day - Kirkwood, April 2024

On a Spring day in April, the snow conditions weren't right for us to push our luck on more advanced trails, so we focused on getting as many laps in of familiar trails as possible. Watching the footage, I was reminded of just how rapidly we descended these slopes that day! As we approach the start of the 2024-25 season, I have just one more main video to edit together after this, of our final ...
Don’t Think, Just Go: Conquering Cornice Express - Kirkwood, March 2024

This was a really fun day, and a great way to commemorate completing another lap of the sun. I finally conquered some steeper black runs at Kirkwood, riding the Cornice Express (Chair 6) for the first time. Sometimes skiing requires a lot of thought and planning. But when what you're contending with isn't a technical challenge, but an emotional one (steepness), you have to commit to turning off...
The Powder Day - Kirkwood, March 2024

There are powder days, and then there are POWDER days. This was THE powder day of the season for us three. Too deep to carry any speed down Timber Creek, we headed into the trees off Chair 5. We have more memories than we have footage, but what we got on camera is pretty sweet too. It may not look fast, but for those of you who have felt fresh powder under your skis, you know how good it feels ...

Kirkwood Magic - February 2024
Переглядів 4114 місяці тому
February 2024 was a fairly dry month in Tahoe. When we showed up on this late February day, we expected little of the snow. But the snow was, despite there being no snowfall for more than a week, still pretty good to ski on. Plus awesome views from the top of Sunrise. That's Kirkwood Magic. This was also the first day I brought along my bottle of @riseandalpine's "liquid courage" ski sauce. Unf...

First Day of the Season - Kirkwood, December 2023

Well its been about 7 months since the 23/24 season began, so what better time to post our earliest footage from this season! A lot of unsure skiing and lousy snow conditions in this one, including a daring (for me) descent down a mogul field on lower olympic.

The Northstar Trip - February 2024

Northstar is a hard sell for day trippers. Parking is a nightmare and getting from the parking lot to the slopes takes far too long. So, we decided to book a 2 night trip on north shore and ride the bus in. We got a full day of skiing in and covered a lot of ground, including my first trip down any icy Washoe to Martis Camp. Lots of great footage to share! We were joined by @benmetzger1547 who ...

Epic Spring Groomers & Sidehits - Kirkwood, May 2023

The 2022-23 season was already insane. So much snow, so much skiing. And then, at the end of April, another storm dumped snow on Tahoe. May 7th was the last day we skied of the season, but Kirkwood was skiing more like mid-March. Ample snow cover meant that not only were we ripping groomers, but ample side hits and paths through the trees were still filled in and fully skiable, even by amateurs...

      Haha good question. While this channel is in no way my job and I am not promising anything... My hope is to be editing videos as I go this season. Last season started just as I was moving, so I didn't have any time between skiing and real life to do some video editing. Stay subscribed and I promise there will be more content this year!

    Solid pick. Those are much more ski than you need at your current level, but the Cat’s will grow with you. They’re by far the most forgiving ski in Moment’s lineup, but they will also hit 50 on groomers, snake bumps, float pow, take you off your first drop, teach you switch, and join you for your first double-black, as my WC 101’s did for me. Enjoy your cat’s.

      To clarify, the Wildcats I was on here are Chris' 101's which he's been using for basically all of our videos. My new Wildcat 108's are ready to go for the next season! And yes, these skis can do more than I can, but I've got a lot of mass moving with me, and I was really being held back by the Liberty Origin 101s. I'm really looking forward to how much more damp the Wildcats are. The Declivities are great, but not so much for when the snow is soft or mushy. And with 108 under foot, I should be set for powder until I'm MUCH better skier.

    Is the Declivity a good choice for an intermediate at Snowbird?

    • @the_woo_skier
      @the_woo_skier 17 днів тому

      I would say that the Declivity is a good ski overall and intermediate friendly, but they aren't my favorites for soft snow. I mostly love them for their edge hold on firm conditions. They have a lot more backbone than their weight suggests, giving you an entry into metal laminate ski world which won't be too much for an intermediate to handle. Similar thinking to the Atomic Maverick. But from what I understand, Snowbird is more of a soft snow destination. Liberty Origins are great for soft snow, and both the Blizzard Rustler 10 and the Atomic Bent 100 would be great for mixed conditions.

That's exactly what I want to share to the world with this channel - how being super skilled and skiing jaw dropping lines isn't the be all and end all of skiing. Conquering your fears and pushing the limits of what you can do is the truly rewarding part of skiing, especially when in good company!

      I'm sorry if you felt click baited. It definitely is the easiest black run on the mountain. At the time I uploaded this, it was still and accomplishment for me that I started the day on a black diamond run, especially since it was my 2nd day skiing and I usually am very sore after a day of skiing. I have been getting better this season and have now done more black runs, such as Conestoga and Zachary. I have been behind on editing because of some recent life changes, but stay tuned for those runs. I will try to be more careful with my video titles in the future.

    • @the_woo_skier
      @the_woo_skier Рік тому

      That is inaccurate. The first run I ski in the video is Wagon Trail, a black diamond run off of Chair 11. The remainder of the runs are blue runs. You can check the Kirkwood ski trail map, but I also indicate the level of each run (green, blue, black) by the color of the text which displays the name of the run.

    • @clarkastro2510
      @clarkastro2510 Рік тому

      @@the_woo_skier My bad your right, they do list Wagon Trail as a Black. Likely because it is narrow & has the lift towers. The first run you guy's did on the back side can actually be a tougher run at times but I suppose they needed a Blue on that that side for people to pick as the rest of the runs can get you in trouble if your not that accomplished of a skier and it's quite wide. They also keep it groomed and do not let bumps build up.

    • @the_woo_skier
      @the_woo_skier Рік тому

      Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoy! And Happy Birthday! I am not currently planning to go to Boreal again this season, as my passes are to Northstar/Kirkwood/Heavenly and Sierra. Boreal is a really really small mountain compared to Northstar, so all the runs will be shorter than you get at Northstar, but they stay open into the night so you can ski for longer each day. You can see Northstar from the summit on a clear day. You can see it on my most recent Boreal video. Here are my pointers about Boreal: DO NOT take the magic carpet. They got too much snowpack this year, and as a result you have to hike up about 3 ft of elevation just to get off the top of the carpet. It’s not fun. Use the lifts. The California Cruiser runs very slowly and is easy to use and uncrowded, as the Castle Peak Quad goes to almost the same spot and runs faster for experienced lift riders. If you are comfortable with blue runs, the lost dutchman lift is the BEST part of the mountain. I would get there via the 49er lift. You can return down Sunset Boulevard and if you keep your momentum up you’ll make it back to the base area. If you aren’t comfortable with blue runs, my only advice is: do not ride the Accelerator Quad to get to Sunset or Sunrise boulevard (green runs). The traverse from the center of the mountain is brutal on skis, it’s got to be even worse on a snowboard. If you want to ride Sunrise Boulevard, ride up the Cedar Ridge lift. If you want to ride Sunset Boulevard, ride up the 49er lift. You lose far more time traversing from the center than you gain by riding the faster lift. After 4pm when the night skiing begins, they close everything except the center/front of the mountain, so you can’t traverse over to the green runs, and you either have to take prospector or stick to the mid-mountain lifts (California Cruiser and Castle Peak Quad). They don’t always remember to put the “no beginner runs” sign up at the entrance to the Accelerator Quad when this happens, so just be aware of the time. Prospector (the main run down from the Accelerator Quad) is a great run for getting used to blue run steepness. It starts out steep but quickly gets shallower. They also have a run that bypasses the steep part called “lower cut”, but this run can get very narrow, especially when there has recently been fresh snow, and in that case it can actually be more difficult, so be aware of that. I don’t have any snowboarding pointers because I haven’t ever ridden a snowboard. Good luck and have fun!
