There are MANY variations of the 1873 peacemaker, whether it's the original Colt, the 1970s Virginian Dragoon, Ruger with adjustable sights, Uberti, who by the way, makes an excellent reproduction, & several others. The point is, they are all based on the Colt 1873 Peacemaker Frame (or the Army M1873 until almost the end of the 19th century) Incidentally, Ruger modified the design by removing the double leaf spring and replacing it with coil springs! However, I have made my own leaf springs out of feeler gauge leafs. But instead of ONE THICK SPRING like came with the gun that always breaks, I stack about 5 or 6 thinner ''feeler gauge leafs'' together! Which hardy ever break. Use a Dremel to make the springs, and keep and use the original hole in the feeler gauge for the screw. If you'd much rather replace the broken spring with store bought, go ahead. I NEVER do though. LAST, I Always wrap a feeler gauge with 400 or 600 grit wet sandpaper and FIT EACH SCREW do they are ALL the same orientation. I've seen some gunsmiths do this, and ALWAYS put the screws back in the same hole. A-L-L 1873 Peacemaker Frame based revolvers, of whatever brand, should ALWAYS LOAD FIVE (5) , N-E-V-E-R - 6 ! THIS WAY: Load one, Skip One, load 4, then pull hammer back all the way, then forward ''3 clicks'' closing the hammer on an empty chamber. For Example, this is why Ruger quit making the single action old model 3 screw, .22, .357, .44, etc and designed a transfer bar safety for the revolver because ignorant, inexperienced shooters kept loading 6 and accidentally firing a load! STUPID! A-L-W-A-Y-S keep the hammer back ''1 Click'' ''KNOWLEDGE'' is also a ''Safety'' !

I don’t think the U.S. cavalry or civilians loaded 5 in chambers

I would not call this a 'field strip' .... you won't do this in the field . This is more like a detail strip .

I would have tried to pry it off had I not seen a video first. I don't know anything about revolvers' is why I'm watching these vids. It's ok to post videos where you're f'ing up. That's how you learn.

This video may be interesting for someone who wants to see the inside of a gun...But seriously only a moron would disassemble a revolver.....There is no reason!!!!......I have had the same gun for 20 years.....I never plan to take it apart for the rest of my life.....I'm pretty sure it will work fine.....😆😆😆

There are a lot worse out there. You seldom ,if ever, have to take a side plate off. Very little practice.Resetting the release latch is the worst part.

I sight my 7.62x39 guns at 50 yards. It's unlikely you'll choose that rifle for over 150 yard work and that zero makes it more useful at pertinent distances.

Never pry on a side plate you can warp it and it will never fit properly again. Use a rubber hammer then tap the frame where's a grip attaches to loosen the side plate.

Can someone recommend the right screwdrivers for Uberti SAA. The slots in the screws are not as wide as the Colt. The Grace screwdrivers are too thick and do not full seat in the slot.

Hi, along with other reader comments, I am giving you top notch review for this video. I just got an old Colt SAA first gen gun at auction and watching this makes me feel prepared to open it up. I can see on the pictures the trigger guard plate to frame is not flush, so I will need to look at it to see if the trigger spring screw is backed out or what, lol? Anyway big thanks for the detail on this!!!!

I like the Russian zero personally where you aim at the belt line to hit around center mass anywhere from 100 to 300 meters. But it gets tricky when you want to make hits on a small target from a distance. Have to train on those low holds. Good video

Love mine w/LOK "Palm Swell Bogies" grips in red/black. I bought it because I wanted a DA/SA .45 ACP. My first CZ pistol. Definitely a tack-driver and visually a work of art. So glad I bought this.

How come with my 7.62 x39 i sight in at 25 then at 50 I’m 6” high … idk I ended up sighting it in at 50 and it’s been good to 150 at least as far as hitting 8” and 6” steel plate that’s about all I’d look to get out of this caliber after 200 yards that’s gonna be the max it’s really not just a hope to get a hit shot. Where as 223/556 to hit steel plate out to 300 is just aim at it that bullet is way better at distance but up close there’s nothing better than a bigger bullet I love 7.62 if I had to actually fight and if I was defending a area give me a ar10 in 308 actually in most real life cases that would always be my first choice . 7.62x39 is a very strong round though it’s a hammer within 150yards

To remove the side plate on a Colt or S&W revolver; pull the screws and tap the left side of the grip frame with a piece of wood a few times. That will loosen the plate enough to remove it, and also keep you from butchering the finish and the plate by prying it up with a bloody screw driver. Also be sure to use hollow ground bits, parts for these things are getting scarce and you WILL bugger the screw heads with a normal screw driver.

When I get sick and tired of it's people like you and all you newbies out there you have to be totally ignorant not to know how to use a 1911 it is the best semi-automatic pistol out there but you have to be intelligent to know how to use it I've tried mine for years and there's a lot of others who carry it and really don't care for anything else you have to train with it like everything else the problem with people out there who say they watch too many movies with double action guns I carry a 45 Colt Single Action Army as my defensive weapon because I hit what I aim at I carry a 1911 I know how to use it if you have less than brain that I guess you have to get something else

There are two ways a bullet will rise after leaving the barrel. (1) Your barrel is pointing ☝️ (2) Your projectile has wings.

Excellent video! I made it 3:30 in and saw you prying off the side plate with a screwdriver...I cant watch any more!!! (I bailed to post a helpful comment, under my breath.) Ummm, there's still a screw holding it! Now I know EXACTLY how to tear up my Colt. I'm sure that Samuel Colt bumped his head on his casket lid when you did this. Please post the serial number of this parts unit, so I will know to never consider it for purchase.
