    Any content made for Netflix is bad. Missing character details, and pastel colors to be background objects. You are better off with the manga. Anime should be made in Japan, by Japan, and for Japan, not for the machine like Netflix.

    My understanding is that when the show started the people making it or or informed that the next series would be a soft reboot. Sun and moon, at least initially, removed everything after the Brock and Misty years from Cannon. They fairly quickly realized that was a mistake and re-introduced it, but that’s part of the reason that Ash is drawn younger and stupider. But anyway, since the people making XY knew that the soft boot was coming, they knew the show kinda didn’t matter, and as a result, they had a lot of freedom to do different things that they wouldn’t have had if the soft boot wasn’t coming. So even though Ash is officially 10, he’s drawn more like a 14 or 15 year-old, and he acts a lot more mature. Putting him in a Brock roll for a bunch of new trainers was something they had wanted to do forever, and I mean team rocket actually get to be heroes in the final batch of episodes. And Bonnie is a little kid who acts like a little kid. It’s the high watermark of the entire franchise and I just kind of stop watching after ended because I knew that it wasn’t gonna get any better

    The remake is a more faithful adaptation of the manga with really good fight scenes but the original is a better adaptation for a tv show and flows better. Im torn on both but I think the new adaptation does a better job of showing akane and ranmas relationship. The original feels a lot funnier though.

    The only improvement in the reboot is that they could actually afford the time and effort to give Lum her Iridescent rainbow hair. The Blue-Green hair she had in the first Anime was purely because they didn't have the budget and time to animate color changing rainbow hair.

    yup I gave up after getting about 3/4 through Uncharted II. It just seemed devoid of really engaging combat and the constant cinematic approach and climbing just wasn't appealing. It didn't help that I'd already enjoyed the heck out of Gears of War at that point and the combat in that was leagues ahead. It's great I guess if you like a heavily cinematic style of presentation

    I think Both are great, but i'll stick to the Classic, even tho the remake is faithful to the Manga, the Classic gives more dept in the story of the characters and gives more memorable moments where the characters can flesh out their relationship, but comedy is key, perhaps i'm nolstalgic to the old Anime, but i grew up with a very iconic Anime, and if it wasn't by it's popularity back in the 90's This Anime wouldn't even have a Remake to begin with, Maybe i'm wrong with remaking it from the Manga, but there's no denying the Anime was so successful back in those days.

    Thank you for these analyses. This new anime adaptation made me perceive how capable the old studio was when making their own adaptation. In my opinion, their take was also superior to the original manga much more often than not...despite some awful filler arcs, and me personally not enjoying the overuse of comedy during some serious scenes (mostly also coming from the original manga, to be fair). Even the best Rurouni Kenshin adaptation out there (first four OVAs) has quite a different tone compared to the original manga, which makes me think I don't actually like the original author's execution, though his ideas and outlines are great. On top of that, we get this new anime remake that is a stale and washed out, copy-paste take with minimal translation between the medias. The Tsuioku-hen OVAs also shows a much better way to NOT have the comedy interfering while still maintaining the story mature, impactful and artistically sound.

    > didnt understand the rock scene and blames the show for not well conveying it for le monkey brain audience > understood the plot of concrete revolutio perfectly That's like figuring out quantum physics but struggling to grasp the concept of addition like what

    • @etheri0n959
      @etheri0n959 6 днів тому

      The rock scene is just a terribly conveyed scene in Trigun stampede. Every explanation for what vash was thinking in that scenario either doesn't add up because of something else he did or has no real evidence to back it up. Even people who wrote comments defending that scene couldn't come up with one definitive answer for what Vash's plan was there. They had a bunch of different guesses, but not one definitive answer. Concrete revolutio was a messy and really stupid anime sometimes but character motivations and the general theme of the story were pretty easy things to grasp since the show was pretty upfront with how it approached those subjects. So it's more like being able to understand quantum physics while struggling to grasp a five year old's really distorted and warped sense of addition

    • @sharkenjoyer
      @sharkenjoyer 6 днів тому

      @etheri0n959 I think you are way overdramatising it, this scene is I think pretty well conveyed and paced. If you break it down what Vash does makes sense. It's still subjective, it isn't spoonfed to you what his thought process was exactly, but you can see it in his expressions. Vash takes aim up at the sky but he hesistates as he assesses the situation. He realises his one bullet isn't enough for the cluster of missiles. You can see it in his face, almost as if he cusses under his breath that he took way too long to fight the guy and let the missiles spread out- but that's more headcanon territory. What matters is the moment of realisation that he can't deal with the issue with one bullet. What he does next is run off and pick up a rock and toss it into the sky when he realises he needs something that will detonate the falling missiles simultaneously. Physics wise, it doesn't make much sense. 22lr probably can't explode a rock into shrapnel that is strong enough to intercept missiles, but it makes sense logically. He worked with what he had nearby, that is, lots of rock and not much else. This is not a warped sense of logic, it's pretty simple if you look at it at face value. You don't need an inner monologue scene to convey his thought process, because you can see it in real time on the screen. Pick up rock > throw rock > shoot rock > rock explodes into pieces and hit multiple missiles at once. At the end of the day, I guess it is subjective and other people have their own explanations for the scene, but for me it is pretty cut and dry what's going on and what the overall thought process was even if no words were spoken in that scene.

    • @etheri0n959
      @etheri0n959 6 днів тому

      @sharkenjoyer and what about the part where he takes aim at the missiles after he already realizes he has only one bullet still? The only reason he didn't fire there was because the other gunman fired a bullet at him. I dont know if you remember this or not, but this happened in between the moment when he initially aims at the explosives in the sky and when he goes to pick up the rock and this step basically disproves your theory. His logic was not that one bullet couldn't take care of it because he still tried to do something about the situation with just one bullet. I've heard people try to justify this by saying well maybe he was just baiting the other gunman into firing at his pistol and he wasn't actually trying to do anything in that moment. But when you have to infer what he was doing in that situation based on no visual information nor dialogue because the scene moves too quickly for either to be present, then it's not cut and dry anymore. Also this explanation makes no sense because why on earth would vash want to bait the other gunman into shooting at him in the first place? That's besides the point though since the argument isn't about whether the motivation makes sense or not, it's about whether you're able to tell what the motivation even is in the first place and from the way the scene is conveyed you just can't. It's clumsy. I agree you don't need an internal monologue to understand a character's motivations and thought process, but you do need some type of calrity. And in the rock sequence there are just a bunch of contradictions and a lack of visual feedback when the audience needs it.

    One thing I hated about this show is that Claude was objectively *in the right* He was RIGHT and JUSTIFIED to destroy that submarine, he was RIGHT, less justified this time, but still understandable that he chose to get revenge on the nurses and the doctors that part took in the inhumane experiments, over all, he was the only character that didn't look at justice as a binary matter, it's not a one or a zero, he was right to retort to violence for these inhumane things done to him and children Yet the show still treated him as a villain that deserved to be taken down, which was so weird I think they were trying to go for an anti hero archetype, the guy that has good intentions but does bad things for the greater good; they failed miserably if that's what they were going for, they made a sympathetic villain that was right in all ways but still the show had to rug pull us at the last second and make him crazy because they accidentally made him into a better main character than Jiro

    it may be just because the new one has a faster pace, so it wasn't able to flesh out the characters as much as the old one. the new one may not necessarily be better, but it is definitely not bad either, especially compared to other anime remakes.

    I do prefer the original anime over the new one, but I do appreciate the new one being made as it's helped introduce more people to the series. The sad fact is that it's easier to get people to watch a modern remake that came out recently, than a 20+ year old classic, regardless of how well it holds up.

    Great analysis, I would just point out one thing: the new adaptation is actually much closer to the manga, when it comes to the rhythm and the general sequence of events: this doesn't mean that it's always better and, as you perfectly explained, the direction is very important even when you follow the original material scene by scene. I don't even appreciate all the additions made in the original (like Ranma and Akane eating burgers) since I find some of them to be not so useful after all, but it's clear that the feelings were generally better conveyed and the different scenes masterfully connected. At this point, I don't know if the new one is following almost exactly on the steps of the original in order to be faithful or for lack of time to better adapt the product for the screen. Just to be fair, though, there are some cases where I believe MAPPA did a good job in this adaptation process: for example I found quite nice the scene of Ranma searching for Akane during her confrontation with Shampoo. That's different from the manga and the original but it's probably the one where we have the most dramatic rendition of Ranma's feelings. Anyways, I did notice some of these flaws before but I'm glad and thankful someone could explain it much more in detail, since I didn't have all the means to even realize what was exactly missing!

    As someone who watched and the original and read the manga 15-20 years ago as a kid, I really enjoy the new remake. Maybe it’s because I’m already familiar with the characters and their personalities, relationships and motivations- but I appreciate the faster pace. In the end Ranma and Akane are two good hearted people with a very cynical shell, and most other characters are either tools or hurdles that accentuate their true feelings for each other. To that end I feel that the new show handles its pacing much better than the latter parts of the old show. I also felt that Ranma and Akane have a better chemistry early on in the new show than the older one - where they are basically 90% of the time abusive towards each other.

    The new adaptation certainly tried to match the old one as much as possible, but there will be some discrepancies, they're not shooting for an exact 1:1 replica. I just hate that they opted to give girl ranma a pinkish eyeshadow instead of purple from the original. The purple really made her eyes stand out, and given that the new hair color is also a pinkish hue, there's not enough contrast between the 2 and it takes attention away from the eyes.

    I hope it's just a matter of cramming material that has already been covered, and they'll get better soon when story goes beyond what we've already seen. The HxH reboot got much better art and music by the time the Chimera arc is progressing. Meanwhile, the new art style and music in Kenshin are not (yet) that interesting. As a biased fan of the original, what puts me off the most is Kenshin's voice and Megumi's more generic design.

  • @RebeccaGunn

    Lum isn't entirely innocent in the original anime but I think the animation team had a soft spot for her so some aspects of her character were softened just a little. She's still pretty posessive of Ataru, she's got a bit of a history of not being the best friend or self absorbed sometimes. But the OG anime is far kinder to her character. Which is fair because for Takahashi - Lum was originally this one shot character and the series was gonna have other wacky things happen to Ataru as part of the series with Shinobu as the long suffering girlfirend. After one chapter without her - the Okatu fans sent so many requests for her to come back that Ateru's friends were originally written in as those Otaku that just really wanted Lum back - which happened for the following chapters after. The original takes a bit more from the original manga and they stay more "straight" with the Manga so you get more of Lum being not only posessive, but also being almost deliberately malicious against Shinobu or Ataru. Where the OG anime generally tries to have Ateru or someone else do something on purpose or via misunderstanding to earn her ire.

      Takahashi's stories usually end on a cliffhanger, she's not really into the whole "happily ever after" motif. They were almost married at the end of the manga, but a lot of people made a big scene and put it on hold, and the rest is left up to the reader's imagination.
