Once again, thank you so much for this series. It's remarkable how much of a letdown this remake is and how it was able to feel so much worse than the original anime. Even ignoring the fact that they screwed up characters, scenes, and moments, the visual presentation of the show is just incredibly dull on it's own. I've yet to see a clip comparison where I prefer the newer take. Funny how Rurouni Kenshin is by far my favorite anime/story of all time, and yet if my first experience with the series had been this remake I probably would have just dropped it after a few episodes because of how uninteresting it is.
@thewanderingsamurai1150 it's just like Shaman King 2021, the characters are out of character, pacing is dull, presentation is very cheap, the old anime of both series feels more like a true adaptation of the manga than the remakes themselves
@@misterhimura036 Crazy too, because these new remakes are the ones that are supposed to be more “manga accurate”, and instead just become soulless and forgettable.
@@misterhimura036 I like the fact they are continuing it, but it feels rushed to the main point of the series instead of showing rather than telling us
the old version focuses on the story and the progression of the characters, the new one focuses on th how the characters currently are and shocking value and cuts the main point. I haven't seen the new version yet, but based on what you said it sounds like it
I pretty much agree. The excessive exposition, bland perspective angles and the still frame poweropoints are part of the reason i haven't kept up with reboot. This kinda feels like a checklist of subplots vs. an actual npassion project. At this point I kinda just want to see how the climax of the Kyoto arc will be handled and to see the Jinchu arc animated. Even then I'm probably won't be impressed considering how underwhelming the clicps i've seen of the Saito fight was in comparision to it's 90's counterpart.
Man finally, I found someone with critical thinking and obviously it's a small channel, I just binged this video and the previous ones on rurouni kenshin remake and I couldn't agree more with your opinion which ironically is also mine. This remake is so mid I understand that there are no fillers it is more faithful to the manga and everything you want, but to say it is better than the original is blasphemy. The Og series had incredible musical mastery and the artistic choices and direction were so focused that although at the time the animation was limited it did not matter , and then if we want to say it all the original animation was full of character and even the movements were better expressed I cite a few examples: 1) Kaouru who when inspecting the sakabato turns it in multiple directions to get a good look at it. 2) Sanosuke when he sticks his hand down Hyottoko's throat to extract the bag that contained the inflammatory liquid, Hyottoko cannot breathe and so there is a little animation where he staggers which is not there in the remake. 3) When Kenshin faces Senkaku's men at the village where you first meet Shishio, in the remake the scene is 4 png in the original series Kenshin actually fights. 4) And in the most recent episode when Kenshin breaks chò's sword and attacks him with the Ryuushosen it is yet another png, in the original on the other hand you see Kenshin change the position of his hands along the sword and then attack and the whole thing ANIMATED!!!! I could go on and on but the commentary is already long, and for all those who say that the remake is more mature because there is less comedy and it is less censored in some scenes you are missing the point, this is not enough to make the show mature, it lacks contrast. Honestly it would have been a hundred times better a Remastered than a Remake, then the animation is so banal in the remake that it doesn't justify the fact that the remake exists, the only upside is that they will animate the rest of the manga but it is a trivial consolation...
And there is practically no score in the remake. In that field we were spoiled, Warrior's Suit, It's Gonna Rain OMG the score was great in the Original.
Thank you for these analyses. This new anime adaptation made me perceive how capable the old studio was when making their own adaptation. In my opinion, their take was also superior to the original manga much more often than not...despite some awful filler arcs, and me personally not enjoying the overuse of comedy during some serious scenes (mostly also coming from the original manga, to be fair). Even the best Rurouni Kenshin adaptation out there (first four OVAs) has quite a different tone compared to the original manga, which makes me think I don't actually like the original author's execution, though his ideas and outlines are great. On top of that, we get this new anime remake that is a stale and washed out, copy-paste take with minimal translation between the medias. The Tsuioku-hen OVAs also shows a much better way to NOT have the comedy interfering while still maintaining the story mature, impactful and artistically sound.
i discover your channel via the fullmetal alchemist videos, you do a great job, your narration is calm and smooth and goes to the point, i wanna hear your thoughts on the animated movies this show has, keep the great work 🫡
One thing I didn't hear you talk about yet is the difference in quality between the voice actors in both versions. The newer version feels very stiff and exaggerated while the original feels natural and expressive. This is true for all the voice actors in my opinion
The reboot is boring and ugly to look at. Both could be subjective opinions but i stick to them. A manga or comic book isn't a movie nor is it fully animated or filmed show. Directly copying a book or manga doesn't translate to a good show. Moving images are something drastically different from a still image on a piece of paper.
This. This is something that nobody in the anime community takes into account when they ask for faithful adaptations. A manga is different from an anime, so the anime will have to make changes in order for it to work in the new medium. The art will have to look a bit different, the story will have to be changed, at least a little bit, in order to flow correctly.
Can't wait for you to talk about the latest episode, it portrays one of my favorite moments from the original anime and... boy do I have words about the new one lol. Your videos pretty much align with my thoughts and opinions about the new show. but so far it's kinda just pissed me off, and even if the OST not being the classic one is probably due to licensing, it's still like THE RuroKen OST, and just hearing the bland new stuff is just.. idk not very impactful anywhere to me. sounds awfully generic.
So far i agree with you. I wonder Is the manga good? I don't wanna be dissapointed like i was with Shaman King source material, i've watched both animes and i wanna know if the original story holds up because the remake did a poorly job to present me the characters and plot.
I personally didn't enjoy the manga too much, but I did like it more than the new anime and I can see the charm in it. The artwork is nice and the comedy is a lot better at least.
Personally I'll steer clear of the manga for the reasons of the author. At least both anime were adapted by different people. I don't feel comfortable reading the original now.
the way an adaptation which does good is HXH 2011 which captures all of the characters like the original, unlike these new versions including Shaman King that puts too much attention to the action, main character and it's dailog
With Hunter x Hunter, like with Fullmetal Alchemist, I'll still say the original adaptation is better, but both remakes are still great productions despite not hitting the highs of the originals. They do their job in adapting the unadapted chapters mostly well, making some mistakes in already adapted portions. Shaman King remake is mediocre, as it clearly only exists as a launching point for Shaman king Flowers adaptation. This looks straight up bad, not awful but pretty boring. I don't know if I care to see the unadapted chapters in this style. I'd even say the Jojo part 3 ova is much better than the modern adaptation in parts it does adapt, but that one is so abridged that even if some parts are worse the modern version wins for not skipping some of the best parts of the manga. If the ova series was longer, it would have won no competition.
I always saw this mini-arc a little uneven, i mean after Jinei, Tokyo Arc kind of falls flat (except for the Oniwabanshu fight) until the Kyoto Arc. Ironically despite the remake cutting the filler the pacing feels a lot more tedious than the 90s anime and manga. Just like Shaman King 2021 is boring and dull for only being a copy paste of the manga but worse.
@@soul8648 thank you! I loved the 90s fillers and certain episodes actually added development. Not to mention that by the time the Kyoto arc rolled around it feels like we’ve lived with the characters more.
