Calm summer flight in the Aerolite 103. Full length video time stamp break down in description.
Here is a full length flight video from this summer in the Aerolite. It was a super nice day and I was glad to get up in the air. I stayed mostly in the vicinity of the airport and performed several take offs and landings through out this flight session.
Since this is a longer video I thought I would provide a guide of various time stamps for some of the video highlights:
1st take off 1:45
1st landing 10:45
2nd take off 13:10
Stall practice 17:15
Slow flying 19:00
2nd landing (STOL practice) 23:35
3rd take off 25:10
4th landing (STOL practice) 27:50
4th take off 29:00
flying low over fields 35:00
5th landing 47:45
Final take off 51:35
Final landing

Sorry the original video was upside-down! Here we are now better than ever with a properly oriented video!! Here is a flight video from earlier this year with a couple of my pals. It is unedited so the first 4 minutes are of us all taking off. Don't miss the short field take off on a 400' runway! After that we zoom around the countryside taking in the spring time views. No music, no commentary,...

I've sideways considered myself lucky, and this day was no exception! Not only was I able to crash land with minimal damage and no injury, but I had the gopro running atop my empty noggin! Come along for a short ride to nowhere. As always thanks for watching, and please like ans subscribe!

What is the kit called
Nice to see someone reaserching alternative engines like the Artic Cat Ctec 400
Sweet
One of my first flights was on something like that with a rusty dodgy 2 stroke Rotax 😅 very cool
That was just awesome!!
Millions like for you dear. I hope to get one, how can i get one
What is the price
mountain bike shocks, especially air shocks need to be service quite often and i doubt they withstand landings over a period of time...
You over estimate the frequency of their actual use. If I have to replace them every few years, that's fine. They are cheaper than most airplane parts. By the way, after 100's of abusive landings, they still work fantastically.
Watching the tool carousel go around in the tool change I saw chips on one of the tools and I was like OH NO, when that gets in the spinal that’s going to suck. I wondered how chips got up there, then there was the fan……
Too heavy for anything with enough wing area to fly it unless your going to stay in ground effect 😅
Not true. There are several flying examples. See you at oshkosh 🫡

What make ultralight aircraft is this and where do i get one ??
@BryanKnowles is an aerolite 103, but it's been modified substantially.
What make ultralight aircraft is this and where do I get one ?
I Wish to own one.
what the engine type use?
Please, what brand of this engine, where can I buy it??
So... You were more attuned to all your toys you added than keeping your head in the game and FLYING THE PLANE. Rookie move

that is a lot of fun looks cool

Qual nome desse avião ? Alguém pode informar por gentileza?
Aerolite 103
The back strut pipe , is vibrating , it must have , at least one sport.
If the engine goes week he could stil land safely by I gliding down?
I'm interested in that forestroke engine I saw you working on
shoot me an email kidkhaos@kidchaosconcepts.com
This video should be renamed to flying stupid I wouldn't even take the 172 that I fly up on that day
I didn't fly it until the following day. Video editing magic. You can stitch two days together, and it seems like one. Amazing technology, really.
Amém amém e amém!
God is good! Congratulations!
Nice looking engine 👍
👍👍
Just wondering: is there a reason to retain those 4 "mounting" pedestals on the top of the case? Not much but perhaps half a pound weight savings?
They weigh practically nothing and come in handy for mounting fuel pumps, exhaust, etc.
Looks like fun
Belt model please
Ha, man that’s sick!, wish I could afford one😅
It's not cheap or easy, but if you make it a priority, you can definitely have one.
Harbor freight?
There are exactly zero Harbor Freight (Predator) parts in a Thump-Air engine. Both engines are based on the same Honda, but that is where similarities end.
@@kidkhaos6427ha okay. Did you design the redrive? That is the hardest part IMO. How is it tensioned ?
@MechInvent redrive was designed and is produced here along with many other parts. It is tensioned by an eccentric shaft, clamped in the bracket. It is also backed up by snap rings. It can handle 65+ hp. It is very stout.

Sorry sir This engine can work for plane????
How much was it to build that thing? Was that from a set of plans or a kit? Thanks for the great content!
I bought it already built. I can tell you from following build that you can spend a serious amount of cash on these. I saw a 2 place Light Sport build go over $60k. If you want the best bang for your buck in a high wing tractor configuration, check out the affordaplane. If you want an excellent deal on a chromoly fuselage kit, check out Badland Aircraft. Chris has dialed in the nicest flying ultralight that actually makes weight, looks, and flies like an actual airplane. The badland is my top recommendation at rhis time.
🎉
That's so cool
I have been waiting for this to be mounted in the tundralite103 lol when??
I have another airplane in the works this will go on. It will be aerolite based but in planning toward a tractor taildragger instead. I am currently planning to install another Thump-Air 460 on my aerolite. I am building lots of them right now, so it just makes sense. I wish there were 8 of me, then I could build all the stuff rolling around in my head 😅
Can't wait!!!
Can you reach the EIS in flight? It looks very far away. I’ve never seen an Aerolite 103 in person.
No I could not. I have since removed the EIS. The panel by your feet is not a great location for it.
Thanks. I’m considering purchasing an Aerolite. I’ve got some old eyes. I don’t know that I’d even be able to read that EIS.
A lot of guys move them to the he man bar just above your head. I never intended to use the EIS for long, so I just left it there for the time being. Really, in an airplane like this, the info on the EIS is nice to have but not necessary. You can really boil the whole thing down to rpm and CHT and be just fine, IMO.
Need the thrust test numbers!
I have a new test stand in the works, so hopefully, we will see something in the near future. Unfortunately it is not a priority. At best I'll be working on it mid summer. It had made more sense to find the best performing prop and tune with a wideband for top performance from there. I tuned the reduction ratio based on peak prop RPM. Thrust is approximately 200 lbs per a scale on the tail of my airplane.
Listen to that thumper 4 stroke! Loads of torque, been waiting a while to see reliable 4 strokes make their way to 103.
💖🇰🇭🛩️🇰🇭💖👍💯
Thanks for the video. I have 50 hours flying a cessna 172s and would love to try flying a 103. Do you have any recommendations.
Them Gopros will get ya every time. Lol. Glad you got lucky and it happened over the runway. I fly footlaunch paramotors and I refused to get a helmet cam until I reached 100hrs flight time.
You should be careful with that chip fan. One of the machines i used at work got a damaged ball screw from the fan blowing too many chips onto the way covers. The covers would compress and force chips under the seal. It happened enough that something got into the ball nut and clogged the lube system. It was a 10 million dollar +, 5 axis that ran only aluminum parts. Also the fan can blow chips up into the umbrella and get chips on the tapers of your tools. I saw one of the tool tapers had a chip on it in the atc as you were cycling to the fan. Idk if the spindle releases enough compressed air to blow them off, but if you get chips in there it will make your tools sit crooked and will eventually wear out your spindle taper.
Thanks for looking out! That does suck. Fortunately, I routinely clean under my way covers. It dies take long, and stuff finds its way in there for sure
Kudos to Mr Clark for his contribution
Don’t like and won’t subscribe I didn’t want to see your homemade bicycle helmet. I clicked to see the last 30 seconds to see how you handled, what might have caused it what you did to correct it. Won’t. Be watching anymore. Of your videos or recommending any.
I am glad you were able to follow the instructions I provided in the beginning of the video on how to skip what some folks might consider the boring part. I support your right to decide not to watch any more of my videos. Have fun watching different videos.
