    Nice work. The bloops are designed to nose over for max braking. Bumper is a lightweight option.

      Ya, Michigan winters sucked! Sometimes overcast for over a month. Crazy lake effect. Lived there 5yrs working at the GM Proving Grounds, then moved back to MN. Best job ever though!

    • @airchairp
      @airchairp Рік тому

      The Bloops and Bluebird do indeed add braking power by nosing over. This can be seen as both a benefit (more effective emergency stops) and a problem (a possible unplanned stop).
      A downside to this soft landing gear is that it may not resist side tipping in a cross wind as well as stiff gear. The pilot may have to be more skillful and alert to keep the plane on the runway at ground roll speeds, since the gear is not preventing a banking tip and the ailerons have marginal authority when slow.

      It feels like riding in an old Cadillac, kind of floats along with purpose. Between the shocks, fiberglass legs, and tires with next to no air pressure in them, it's a cushy ride!

    I like the look and the joy stick over the yoke configuration. Your gear looks robust enough but,….. have done any beefing up on the empennage design structure since your now adding more ground loads to a designed not built to handle ground taxing and landings. Yes it’s a tail sitter but that’s at rest.

    • @kidkhaos6427
      @kidkhaos6427  Рік тому +1

      Yeah there is quite a bit of reinforcement. Tail tubes are all sleeved, , some of the fuselage is now 0.125 instead of 0.035, and many parys have been retriangulated. I'd put it up against any aerolite out there for durability. I have flown 100 hours like this, and made some extremely rough landings. It's ready for real life bush flying and off field landing anytime, anywhere.

      Its hard to put a price on a kit since a lot of the work has been done by me and is not available as a kit from aerolite.
      I have seen new aerolite builds go from high 20's up to nearly 40k depending on options. A used airplane can be acquired much more reasonably.
      The enclosure is really just a piece of lexan draped over the fuselage. The floor is aluminum flashing.
      Im not sure how you would add heat, but I used heated clothing (diy powered by a drill battery) all last winter and flew in as cold as 17°F pretty comfortably. Snowmobile clothing could also suffice. You could definitely find a place to mount am iPad.

      You over estimate the frequency of their actual use. If I have to replace them every few years, that's fine. They are cheaper than most airplane parts.
      By the way, after 100's of abusive landings, they still work fantastically.

    Wonder if you reinforced the tail of the ultralight in some way to hold the weight of the plane and you or in case of any unexpected hit with the tail landing area.

    • @kidkhaos6427
      @kidkhaos6427  Рік тому

      Yes it was reinforced when converted to a tail wheel.
      The mains take the majority of the abuse, it would be very difficult to damage the tail in a landing.
      Your angle of attack would have is so high to touch the tailwheel

    What kind of material are your wings made of? As I look into these aircraft & all the expenses I kinda worry about the wings as
    I've just learned that depending on the material they can have drastically different life expectancy? The LQQK isn't as important
    as how long they last so I gave ya a like & Subb'd Up too. peace & GB You/yours

    • @kidkhaos6427
      @kidkhaos6427  21 день тому

      @diggy-d8w these wings are sail cloth covered (Dacron is an example). It is very durable as long as it isn't left out in the sun. Storing it indoors amd keeping it dry and clean will extend its life substantially. The cloth you see in this video actually had to be replaced as it later began failing. I have a video where I replace the cloth and the airplane is now blue.

      Glad to hear you out there & well..... lol, I'm looking at these & there's so much confusion/misinformation. I guess some
      channels will say things for views or perhaps they don't know but I'm trying to figure out how to get started. I do have the
      Policy/Rules for Part 103 aircraft & looking at them is where the confusion starts as a lot of channels do a mix since
      they own aircraft of multiple classes. It's all good, I'm reasonbly certain that yours is a Pt103 offering & you appear
      to be trying to do things right, safely, and the God Bless at the end meant something to me. Anyhoo, I'll be digging
      around thru your stuff. This is the 1st video I've seen, the channel name threw me off yesterday & I went the other
      way...lol, but today when ya hit my feed again & I saw you did the wheel upgrade, I had to look. The wheel sizes
      are one of my pet peeves against these, the tiny wheels just aren't that good unless you stay on a paved area &
      I doubt I could w/ one of these so seeing you talking about what I'd want to do captured my imagination.
      Tells ya how boring I am...huh? thanks & I'll be chatting you up here/there. Thanks & GB

    • @kidkhaos6427

      Big wheels and tires will almost certainly make these aircraft overweight. It is a safety concern depending on where you fly from IMO.
      There is a ton of conflicting information out there. My best advice is to join a flying club where you can draw from tue experience of others and get proper training.

    • @diggy-d8w
      @diggy-d8w 21 день тому +1

      Yep, I agree.... tons of bad info & if I ever do this I'll be putting some money up front for lessons. I'm not afraid to just
      "Do it" but it's just wise to get the basics of etiquette to operate around airports & pilots. For now it's research. peace

      You and dozens of other youtube engineers. 😆
      I have flown and tested this extensively at this point. Not only does it work, but it has far exceeded my highest hopes. I have successfully plopped this airplane into all sorts of rough terrain that would have demolished a normal aerolite.
      It doesn't need to have great geometry. It just needs to absorb inpact and spring the tires back straight afterward, which this landing gear does exceptionally.

  • @lovetofly32

    Landing gear are positioned way too far back

    • @kidkhaos6427
      @kidkhaos6427  Рік тому

      The landing gear is exactly where it needs to be. Moving the gear forward would put too much weight on the tail. The fuselage can't handle more weight on the tail. I also want to be able to use prop thrust to lift the tail during take-off and ground maneuvers. The Latin of the gear also works out well for my weight and balance.
      At a glance, I can see how you might say that. But if you do the math, you will see that it is the best possible location, all things considered.
