I play lacrosse there
Great Review! Not to sound too lax gear nerdy, but I am pretty sure they must have acquired the mold for the Traditional Lacrosse Nations Head from back in the day. used to have one and loved it for a casual catch. Head takes traditional pockets really well and is why there is the double hole bunching in the side wall. Definitely would recommend for youth/new players at the price point.
could you show any different types of defensive systems? Or does every team in the NLL pretty much play the same one?
@@2001bwhit I’ve got a few different systems you can run… just don’t want to get in trouble from Albany 😂
That’s not spallina that’s horseman
Last place tho
Not anymore tho 🌊🌊🌊
I call it the Filipino Weekend Basketball League Defence
😂😂😂
Any team can do it, the Bandits are just more effective at it, partially because of their will to win and also because it compliments the way vinc plays. Looking forward to your videos when the Bandits win their third straight title next year.
This video isn’t a shot at the bandits - it’s for the good of lacrosse… as explained in the video :)
@BoxLacrosseBreakdown I think it is good for lacrosse. The fact that it neutralized torontos offense proves that. Toronto has a bunch of soft forwards who like to stand back and shoot, unwilling or able to cut or get hit in the mouth. Ironically enough, guys like Nanticoke and Frasier would be able to defeat this defense, but they play for the good guys!
@@bflogeno12 what are your thoughts on All four of Toronto Rock’s PK defensemen piled in the crease? Then to take it a step further, all 5 Defensemen piled in the crease on your 5v5 possessions?
@BoxLacrosseBreakdown again nanticoke, fraser, even dhane and bryne would be willing to crash down and break it up.
@@bflogeno12 you’re missing the point 🙄
I genuinely didn't know you played in the NLL LMAO I thought you were just smart
@@c0ntraiL_yt don’t get me wrong, I’m still dumb but yes I did play in the NLL
i’m very new to lacrosse, i am mostly a basketball fan, there should either be a limit of people in the crease or a 5 seconds jn the paint sort of thing.
Agreed
Checking in the crease 2:05
@@kentbremner7828 that is legal when a defender is without the ball!
Lol, I was wondering if you were gonna make this video and I was thinking of your last video while I was watching the finals. Honestly, I can see a lot of arguments for and against this strategy. Like I said on your video last year, this is clearly a "for playoffs" only strategy since I do not think that it can be maintained for an entire season because it relies on the d-guy's willingness to soak shots in volume. As a d-player, I appreciate how effective this is but as spectator, it's utterly aggravating to watch Dawson and Priolo stand pinned to the pipes in the crease with their sticks down in the five hole waiting to get hit. I can see the argument for it as "good defense", but I am just not sure it is overall good for the game. For instance, what happens when offensive players are told to just start shelling the defenseman's knees and legs if they are going to stand there like that? Now, I am not sure if it should be banned just yet since I would contend that Matt Vinc and his nearly perfect angles is the key to making this work. Put another goalie in there and do you have the same success? I am not sure. On the reverse side, if every teams starts using this strategy, how will that effect powerplay scoring? Overall, I could get behind a rule change that effects only the man-down scenario similar to how there's no icing for a penalty killing team in hockey.
I don’t think you need to make a rule. I think that offensive players need to be more A-holes. If they want to sit there start ringing shots off of them
Hahaah I mentioned this in my first video
I mean, you only showing one play in one game do year around stats with this and see if it's actually effective as you think, it's not like those players want to stand in front of a shot at
That was one of the only plays I’d seen someone hit a different defender in the crease. These players 1000% want to stand in front of the shot, can tell you that for sure
Indoor box is such a stupid game. Also, let them pile in front of the goal. Field players will only take so many shots off the shin
Why can’t indoor and outdoor just both be loved? Don’t be a hater hucky … I’ve played both and love both for different reasons.
I would suggest a "must be moving through the crease" rule. Defenders cannot stand still while in the crease and, if they are in there, then they must be moving towards getting out. First offence = a warning and fresh shot clock for the O. Second offence = 2 minute penalty.
That would be an interesting concept. I kind of like that idea and solves for the problem of guarding somebody behind the cage
second this, good idea
Should just be a rule that you have to be playing defense or offense. Can't just screen the goalie regardless of your position. Both are stupid and both can easily be solved by ref judgement at the professional level. Adding complexity adds complexity. Not necessary.
I think your poverselling its effectiveness a little (a lot more of that comes down to Matt Vinc being Matt Vinc than you realize, the Bandits tried to use that to help Shanny and Orleman when Vinc went down with injuries and they still got lit up on the PK) but even as a Bandits fan I wouldn't mind pushing them up out of the crease, even if its only covering 85% of the net. I don't think you'll see widespread use though. Besides the durability issues, you have to have really good communication and spacial awareness on the D's part otherwise they end up doing more harm than good.
This is true but you also have a goaltender who probably isn’t used to playing in the NLL with the meat shield PK. Not underselling Vinc’s goaltending ability - but maybe Orleman and Shanny weren’t used to it?
great points - i agree. the game needs to keep in mind that if the game needs to be entertaining for the fans. back in the 70's, box lacrosse was using zone defenses and it ruined fan interest. in short, zone defense was too effective. fans enjoy scoring and single digit games are boring. eventually, the zone defenses had to be restricted to penalty killing only. we might be seeing a repeat of this dilemma. the other things i notice about modern lacrosse is all the damn line changing. the rules need to change to discourage one-way play(ers). i want to see my favorite players play defense AND offense. does the league think people want to watch a never-ending parade to and from the benches?? one last thing - whats with the size of the goalie's pads? holy sh*t, they fill the whole net !! (just some observations from someone who has watched/played since the 1960's.)
Zone defences definitely need to be vetoed immediately. Man!!! You’re the first guy I’ve seen comment about the 2-way players. Personally I’d love to see the NLL evolve to have everyone play Offense and Defense.
I think you're overreacting. There is no reason for a team to pile in the crease like that. It is more detrimental than beneficial. I wouldn't let a team just fire as many open shots at the net as they want simply because I want to pile in the crease. If the league wants to limit the guys in the crease anyway that is fine, but I see a rule that would be hard to enforce because the refs have to juggle so much anyway.
I disagree, I think it’s very doable and is 100% necessary for the good of lacrosse but understand your point of view
Go Rush!
🎉🎉🎉
This is exactly what Ive been thinking about, a rule similar to basketball, I feel like a time limit wouldn’t really work because of behind the net defense but definitely a cap on the number of defenders in the crease
@@bulldoge926 yeah that’s the only issue… behind the net defence. Maybe anything above cage is not allowed? Idk
Special thanks to MB, LS, CD and BC for their thoughts and opinions (which I borrowed) for this video.
Idk if I’m just slow but to me it looked like he always was gonna shoot short side
Probably just the angle. Any goalie will tell you he’s looking farside here - hence the goalie stepping in the wrong direction
Notice left foot of defender step across in 1st clip then face dodge. Same in 2nd clip but right foot steps over then boom split underneath. Anticipate defenders with lazy feet.
Just noticed that, thanks for pointing that out. Will definitely be looking for that from now on💪
Also a reason to run a quick 2 man during sub game
Awesome!!!
You can say that again
Flop
In minor they call it a lot
I have a real question is that the optimal overhand shot because I feel like when I shoot straight up and down I’m more accurate but have less of an angle on far side shots and harder to get the shot off quick should I always shoot at like a 45 degree angle
This was not an overhand shot. This was 3/4 (at best). In terms of getting a shot off the fastest off a pass, that’s going to depend on where you catch the ball. Getting a shot off the fastest while carrying I’d also make a strong argument for overhand
@@BoxLacrosseBreakdown oh so overhand would be straight down then? Wouldn’t it be better to shoot more sideways since the angle of where the ball releases is better?
Again, really depends on the scenario and where the defender (if any) in front of you is. I’m an advocate for overhand because you can put the ball anywhere you want in box lacrosse and you’re not handicapped by where the release point is. 3/4, sidearm and underhand don’t have that advantage - though they do have their place in the game depending on scenario!
@@BoxLacrosseBreakdown I’m confused. In field are you handicapped by release point? I thought that shooting closer to sidearm would be better in some scenarios since the goalie covers most of the net from your pov if he is squared to you, but if your shooting let’s say sidearm, from the release point more of the net will be open. So if I’m on the top left shooter spot and I shoot it right handed far side/right side sidearm would be better no? Just sidearm has less aim
@minionenthusiast3431 are we talking about box or field? Field is a completely different game than box
Shoot Overhand
Best tip ever lol
@@Duckylax91 lmao thanks man!
it's only a matter of time until every youth player in Europe plays with these sticks! great review, love the Europe-focused content - keep it up!
All hail Good Stick Co!
Why are they playing so far out? My entire life there was a semi circle we called the house and we just played zone defense there
That’s actually a great question. As we progress through minor, we get bigger, stronger and faster. With that in mind, this allows players to be able to shoot from further out. At these levels, you can’t let good offences shop around the perimeter and do whatever they want. You have to get a hands and put pressure on them. Now having said that, there is such a thing as too much pressure. When the ball moves from one side to the other, the now offball defenders need to sink back into the middle to be prepared to help the opposite side. If you’re out in no man’s land consistently, you’ll get burnt backdoor quick. So it’s a balance of both good sir!
Do more reviews! As a box player I love to see the content!
Will do!!!
Not a goal at all!!!!!!!

Honestly, that's just Chase Fraser. I swear he has a clause in his contract that says he's not allowed to score normal goals against toronto.
😂😂😂 it’s gotta be in there somewhere
Love the ram screen. Have you seen Spain P&Rs done in NLL? Interesting to see if anyone ever gets into a Horns set.
Horns is a really interesting idea
Solid play. If the D man who was on nanticoke had followed more closely instead of floating in front they had a chance at stopping it but then he could also fully roll the cage. Then he’d get a double and a quick ditch to the man in front then. Regardless a shots happening
