    Because of how emotional Part 2 is, it generally requires two playthroughs to fully be appreciated, and because most could barely get through there first, I have a sneaky feeling once season 2 releases, some who haven't touched Part 2 since they completed it will realize this game is a masterpiece.

    I clicked on this video to say that nobody cares. The game’s story is still dog s*it. Joel saved Abby’s life before she even knew who he was, and whoever thought that Joel should get tortured by a golf club should get that same treatment. This is a video game, fiction. This game didn’t have to be the way that it was, but the devs wanted to make the fan base hate the game. Mission succeeded at least 💛

    The same people who hate Abby love Joel despite them both doing an evil thing. They have empathy for Joel and none for Abby. She's the embodiment of all the consequences of Joel's decision. Joel potentially doomed the world. Joel then killed someone who was the world to others. Joel's choice was selfish, Ellie of course wanted to help the world, and Abby chose revenge which too is selfish but we empathize with Joel and not Abby, why? It's the same thing but with far less consequences. It's a good predicament, and a stellar game.

    You hit the nail on the head my guy. Expressed every emotion i felt from beginning to end on my first then second playthrough. There is so much meaning that people need to look deeper but dont which is why people say "this is the worst game of all time". Story is amazing, gameplay feels insane (makes it hard to actually play the first one with the clunkness) but a WOW of a game. Absolutely beautiful. Hope the last part (3) wraps it all up nicely :)

The acting is easily the best I’ve ever seen in a video game, the graphics are fucking gorgeous and the soundtrack somehow exceeds the first game for me. Feel free to argue with me in the replies but my opinion will not change.

    I’d read about the hate for the game before playing and knew what happened to Joel, so I wasn’t expecting much from it. Instead, I loved it. I love that it’s not clear cut who the bad guy is. Joel and Ellie are the villains in Abby’s story, Abby is the villain in Ellie’s story. I actually grew to really like Abby, so that when it came to the theatre confrontation it was wild because I wanted Ellie to face up to what she did to Owen and Mel (and Alice), but at the same time I realised Ellie did what she did because Abby killed Joel, but Joel killed her dad… By the end of of it I was exhausted and wanted them to stop fighting. The storytelling was brilliant, more so than part one.

    • @sweett3253
      @sweett3253 12 годин тому

      The quality of the game has nothing to do with it dividing the fanbase. They wrote a story they knew would be risky and it turned out well, most criticisms being surface level or critiques on how it was presented as opposed to the story itself

    • @aiden9384
      @aiden9384 12 годин тому

      @sweett3253 I realize that the story is not the problem, but when you get blindsided by horrible pacing, the story flies out the window. The way you tell a story is just as important as the story itself. When the story is about how revenge is bad, but you end up spending 10 hours killing Abbys friends before you get to see why that was bad, it falls flat. The games like "OK hurkadur time to sympathize with Mrs Joel In One over here" even though the scene where we switch perspectives was literally preceded by Abby killing Jessie. It's like, do you even want me to sympathize with her Neil Druckman?

    Think the only reason this game is hated is because people couldn't handle losing Joel and the fact that the revenge story is never fully seen through. But again Naughty Dog was original and ended in ways you didn't expect with a ton of story and also showing how anger/hate/revenge can lead to all parties losing. I never once hated this game. I loved it and don't even really have a preference to this or the first one maybe they are great in their own way. The one thing about losing Joel, for me, was it made the flashbacks all that much more potent, despite how sad it was he was never able to live long enough to earn Ellie's forgiveness (if that was even possible). Since Ellie never achieved true revenge I think that made people already upset about his death even more upset if they even played it through but I could see ND's vision or think I could. And now Druckmann say's he can see a third one in the works with a through-line that goes through all three games as a theme. I can't wait!!!!

    7:52 "Specially same-sex ones"? what are you talking about? That's like... not true at all, for any relationship awkwardness could be a thing at the beginning, I've never felt like my relationships have been "specially awkward" because I'm gay??? Usually it come with chemistry and if you ask me the awkwardness in the beginning of Ellie and Dina's relationship is a clear symptom of the future toxicity that they will be dealing with. Pretty funny how you say this with zero basis and then rant about people being homophobic as if you didn't just pull a stereotype without thinking.

      @@wisehat much different in my experience. When you have a first time straight relationship with awkwardness, its awkward because they're young, its their first relationship, they might get caught. when you have a first time same sex relationship, its awkward because you never fully know if their attracted to you till the first kiss, its awkward because being gay is a small minority when your a teen, and if your parents find out its not "why didnt you tell me? youre grounded." instead its largely getting kicked out, conversion therapy, being disowned, or even being abused in some cases. its awkward because its the first time they're getting exposed to same sex relationship dynamics, as the "normal", straight relationships depicted in media.

    One thing I love about the 2nd game which I never see people mention is how Joel tried to distance himself from Ellie in the first game by leaving her with Tommy because he knew he would get close to her and didn’t want to see another companion die especially one that reminds him so much of his daughter, but Ellie gets pissed at him for trying to leave her with Tommy so he says fine and goes along with her until they get to the hospital, he then does what he does because like he was saying earlier he grew attached to her and couldn’t see her die and she gets pissed at him and doesn’t talk to him but if she just went with Tommy the procedure would have been carried out and she would have had her “meaningful death”.

    It's a great game that honestly requires a 2nd playthrough that really makes you feel for all the characters Involved the only people who don't like It are the ones who are biased because they liked Joel and Ellie In part 1 and wanted to see more In part 2 and not what they got. Me being an empath I love this game because I'm not biased just because I liked Joel and Ellie In part 1 I completely understand Abby's actions It's literally the same reason Ellie sets out for revenge.

    One question i wish Part 2 posed was the question of whether it was truly Ellie's responsibility to sacrifice herself. I'd argue its consistent with Joel's character to tell her it wasn't. I dont think he took her to the fireflies because he felt the cure was truly possible or because he wanted it. He did it initially out of an obligation to Tess and then because he started to grow close to Ellie. In Part 1, he tells her "We don't have to do this" yet in Part 2, when the truth comes out, i don't remember him ever arguing that point. Ellie's need to sacrifice herself comes from her survivor's guilt. She feels the deaths of Sam, Tess and Riley were pointless and that she, as an immune, has an obligation to sacrifice herself. But its arguable that it isn't her responsibility. She's still just a child at the time riddled with guilt. Plus she'd be leaving Joel alone again despite in Part 1 saying "I'm afraid of being alone" and "Everyone i loved died or left me except you." She's so willing to die and leave Joel alone refusing to see his side of the story. So whilst she has every right to be upset, she herself is also being selfish

    I'm utterly baffled at the backlash. I honestly think it was the leak that was responsible. I never read it or even heard of it, so seeing the events of the story play out organically made it all work in my mind. I didn't read the plot online and in a context that made me expect ultra-liberal nonsense. And the acting and such were good enough that it never felt preachy.

    🗣️The fireflies were a paramilitary fringe group who did not even ask a little girl if she wanted to give her life, and even IF they would have asked, their main doctor was a vet with scavenged tools and it probably wouldve been a failed surgery, and IF it didn’t fail, the cure wouldve failed because you can’t cure a fungal virus and even IF they did make a cure they would’ve used it to prop up themselves as THE regime. I see a lot of people argue the morals of Joel’s decision from the outside perspective of the player, knowing everything we know, and never bring up that most likely one way or another Ellie was going to die for nothing.

You know, the whole crux of the ending. Oh but I guess the scalpel wasn't clean enough, and there weren't the proper consent forms, and the very real science of the cure for the zombie virus doesn't quite check out, so this definitely means that there is absolutely no thematic or narrative difference between Joel killing the fireflies and John Wick slaughtering goons number 45 through 80. "Joel comes in and clearly does nothing wrong and saves the day". Wow, how compelling
