The Borrowers Roombox- Miniatures Based on The Book Series
I love books. I have decided to commit to making a series of miniatures based on some of my favorite books. Eternal Bookstore was a combo of a fantasy mash up of Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice. Magic Pharmacist was a little more skewed towards HP. And now I have done a complete deviation from book nooks to a roombox based on the book The Borrowers, by Mary Norton. This was so much fun to make. Please let me know if you are interested in this series and if you have read the books or watched the films based on the #borrowers

These are so magical I’m actually gonna lose it ❤❤❤
@@caravanlurker they are so fun!!!! I wish I lived in one.
This is so much fun!
Thanks Gail! We should catch up soon. I have lots of news and think of you often.
This is so pretty omg, I'm in love 😻
Thanks! I just unpacked this and my other book nook into my new art studio. I was happy to see them again.
We love all things crafty you won’t loose us
Wonderful!
Aw thanks 😊
Where do you buy your kits
Amazon.
You have great tips and I love your customization. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much.
Just found your channel thanks to a recommendation by Debs of Dollshouse dilemmas.Love to find and see something new in our hobby of miniatures. Will be catching up on your other videos.Best wishes from Yorkshire Dales England.
She is so amazing. So glad you came by. I am an Anglophile and love a Yorkshire accent! 🥰😍
Just come to your channel from Debs of Dollshousedilemmas. Always fun to discover other fellow dolls house and miniature channels. You look like you have lovely views from your house. I’ll have to watch some more of your channel. Love The Borrowers house you are making. It looks great 😊
Ooh, I should have painted all the blank wood too, of well they're not that visible (it's another kit)
Just in time (8:07), I almost threw out my scrap molding wood pieces (how did you call them?), now I keep them for my next project, or I can recreate furniture in paper!
I called them kit scrap, I believe. Glad you found it helpful!
"promosm" 🎊
Good luck
Thanks Susan!
Hope things go well for you
Thanks! We're almost done renovating. I cannot wait to be moved in!
I subscribed, I love this video I’m sure this addictive hobby will soon take over your new house 😁🤣🤣♥️🧡❤️ great story telling .💕
Oh wow this made my day!!!!!!! Thanks! I did it before back in the early 2000s, then diverged into 1000 other artistic/crafty hobbies and now I am back with the minis again. I like storytelling too and I am so pleased you think so.
Hi Tara, you are so talented and creative, I am so enjoying your videos and your creative thoughts go along with mine. I love Stain markers and have a good collection.I do not trust myself to cut out the window and have it look good but I will replace the image. Thang you so much for sharing your creative knowlege.
Changing the image does wonders, especially if you are going to keep the book nook a book nook rather than converting to a roombox. I am glad you are enjoying the videos! Thanks for the kind words.
I've just started my own borrower's miniature project so this was perfect timing. Thank you for the great inspiration!
Ooo hiw exciting! I would love to see it you post it anywhere!
Love love love this! A truly beautiful work of love. I don't remember reading the books but I know my daughter did. We watched one of the films. The fireplace is fantastic- so cozy and lovely 😍✨
Thanks Dot! That means a lot! 🥰
I love this! This has always been one of my favorite books! I read the whole series, but this one has always been my favorite. Ever since I was little I collected tiny little bits and pieces of things so that I can make new things out of them.😂 I hope everything goes well with your house! I’m sure it’s frustrating to feel like you’re kind of in limbo, but it would definitely be worth it when you get to spend time in your beautiful new studio!
I still collect bits so I can make new things out of them lol! Yesterday we filled all the holes in the walls and today I think we are caulking then it's just painting and flooring and we can get in! The finish line is in sight and I am wicked excited! 🤩
I still love the books. And I love dollhouses. Your borrower home is lovely! 😊😊😊
Thank you! I had a fun time doing it. I also still love the books and read them every few years.
Just found uou , I love this project. Very talented lady
Thank you so much! How did you find it?
You’ve been missed Tina, glad to see such a wonderful new video. Good luck with the renovation ❤
Thanks!!!
You are a true 'Borrower' Tara! This is a faithful creation in the spirit of the original books. I loved the books and still have my old Penguin paperback from the 1950s! My favourite drama version is the BBC production with Ian Holm as Pod. ❤️
Thank you. I wanted to be as true to the books as I could. I have to rewatch the earlier dramas to see which I like best.
Lots of great creative ideas there Tara! It would be fun working out how to make this project. I’ve seen a couple of different versions of the movie but not read any of the books so far. Thanks for the video. Pam 👏🏼😊
Now that I have access to new antique stores, I am finding things that would have worked even better. I suspect when we get settled, I may replace some items like the letter block with stuff from this store I love.
I am interested in learning more on the food
I am going to do a series on the food once I get settled in my new home. It took longer than expected to actually move and now the house we bought has some unexpected issues we have to rectify.
I wonder on that table that you showed first, if you could use a metal bottle cap painted to look like wood as a top to get that raised edge
You could, but it would be smaller, and you may need to do something to the inside of the cap to even it out.
Just brilliant. Can’t believe all the detail. I’m about to use your tutorial to open up the Magic House book nook from this company
Oh wow! I hope I can see it when you finish!!! 😍
This little gal has penache! 😊
I just unpacked her after our move and she is enjoying the view from the window and planning her 2024 🎉💪❤️
Very cute, but I'm on the opposite side of the country from Trader Joe's! I did manage to turn out some decent snake plants by coloring yellow and green paper twist ties. 😊
Ooo great idea. 🙌
Very, very nice! 💞
Thank you 🥰
Merry Christmas Tara🎄🥰 The items in your advent calendar are amazing! I love the doll head and terra cotta piece as well as all the glass pots and bottles. I can’t wait to hear more about your gorgeous Borrower’s room box. It looks amazing! ❤😊
Merry Christmas Dot! You inspired me to make their Christmas tree and wreaths. I hope to film the Borrowers roombox soon. Happy New Year!
I really enjoyed seeing all your lovelies Tara. So many precious pieces! Love your sweet kitty and can’t believe how calm he was during the car ride…something you’d never see my two babies do! Pam x
Pam, I thought the same about Fuzz before this happened. Perhaps his age helped mellow him out this time. I don't know. But I am glad! Have a great New Year!!!
@@TaraFinlay You also Tara. Hope it’s a smoother ride for you than 2023. 😊
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas! I tried mudlarking around here today…. film to come soon.
Nice happy hunting
I’m so glad that you made it through the move safe and sound. That Covid delay must have been really frustrating! I look forward to seeing your new room box and your new home. Wishing you a very happy holiday season!
Thanks Jen! You too!
I converted my Magic World booknook to Harry Potter theme. Sorting hat, glasses, flying books, monster book etc. You're doing great!
Thanks! I would love to see it.
Thank you for this video, it's great. I have only just found it today after going on a bead hunt in our local charity shops so that I can customise my book nook and for other crafts. I do have quite a good selection of beads and bits and bobs so have plenty to start with. I want to make some lamps and have found that the those battery operated fairy lights with the fine wires and lights size of a small grain of rice fit nicely inside some of the crystal beads. Some chain from an old necklace to thread the wire through (it will need to be cut then it will enable me to hang it from the ceiling), reattach wires and hopefully fingers crossed I will have a` hanging lamp, that lights up. My friendly electrician says I should have no problem providing I get the right wire attached to each other. Now I want candles in candle sticks, flowers in pots, a world globe, glass in the book cases, a crotched cushion and rug, a cat to snooze in front of the fire and..... 😅😂🤣 The problem is once one thing is changed the more I want to change other bits to make them more three dimensional. If you are looking for a way to turn the lights on and off easily some of those fairy lights come with a timer and or a remote control.
Awesome! I have a video where I make plants using beads or caps as planters. You can use trash plastic for your glass doors. I think your lighting will work out well. I would love to see it when you are finished.
This is so cute!! Merry Yule
Thank you! You too
too much vocal fry.
Alas, a lifetime of esophagus disease will do that to a voice that used to sing solos in the choir. 😞 Sorry.
You are not right about the doilies ! I create them as fine with Japaneese silk sewing thread and a 0,35 Millimeter hook , the smallest you can get !
I am not right? Can you be more specific?
Sorry, I am German and my English is not good . I wanted to say that it is possible to krochet that small !
@@weltburgeratir9787 I misread "doilies" as "dollies" 😅
would you consider sharing your sheet of book covers and map and pictures?? I would LOVE the opportunity to swap some out but have no idea how to do it.
I would but I am in bed sick with covid while every single thing I own (except my bed) is on a u-haul truck in my driveway waiting for me to get well enough to make a 10 hour drive in said truck with an equally sick husband and an elderly, travel-averse cat....
@@TaraFinlay oh no! im lucky I havnt had covid yet.. Hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself before that drive
love how you changed the paintings. how would I do that without photoshop, im a bit technically challenged hahaha
One way is to screenshot the paintings you want to use, crop them on your phone, and then upload them to Google drive, put them into a document and print from your computer.
You can do all this on the computer too without photoshop using the snipping tool on a PC and then putting them into a word doc or Google doc.
I’m so glad I found your channel!! I just bought this kit and was already planning on modifying the led lighting and customizing it further as a surprise gift. I think your videos will help improve my project immensely! Thanks so much for the guides and creative ideas!
Aw, yay! I was hoping it would help. Best of luck and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
Thanks for sharing a slower build. I'm really enjoying this tutorial!💯❣️
Hope your move went well. I love all things crafty. I subscribed today.
Thank you! We STILL haven't moved. Hopefully before christmas 🎄
I would have appreciated your narration WITHOUT the music. I have trouble hearing you precisely. I know documentary makers do it too ;-)
😊
