I agree with Garrett about Acolyte, I thought I was the only one disappointed and could tell what was going to happen. I fell asleep during most of the episodes and still did miss anything. OzMO, Arkansas Armada tournament, had team play but with random teams and missions that none of us knew who are teammate was until that day. None of us knew the mission until one team picked first player. Both Commanders on a team helped each team. My Ackbar helped my teammate with adding dice and his SSD commander JJ allowed my force to maneuver. Fun and chaotic
Oh yes Star Trek into the Unknown is a blast. Ben and I are playing the campaign. It truly is a great value and so much fun
Love that you guys covered this!
Thank you for watching! We're going to continue to try to cover as much Armada in the lead up to Worlds. - Ken
Well done great game 🙌
Could you maybe make a April Fools battle where it is nothing but Gozantis vs. GR-75s? That would be absolutely hilarious.
An interesting idea and something for us to consider. We did this as an April Fools battle many years ago... ua-cam.com/video/hUCD5KegBpc/v-deo.html
Love the red on the star hawk
Petersaber did an excellent job with his Starhawk repaint / LED assembly.
I can't wait for the klingon episodes next!
Lots of preproduction work on creating some new 3D ships so we can replace tokens with a model. Filming due to start in early January!
Awesome
Great video guys. Really enjoyed the “extras” that you put into the production. Can’t wait for my core set and hopefully many many more waves of STITU.
Thank you for watching, we were hopeful that the extra information between rounds and the "cutscenes" helped tell the story and understand ship status.
I could be wrong, but the way you played had two issues, don't the jem hadar fighter movement lose the lock, and when you spent the dice for rolling the scans, i believe you have to have extra dice that are "remaining" breakthru success that are not included in the roll, to use as additional points. Also, if lock the torpedoes move differently and can move from the sides. Also, the test should be 1 higher for a mission counter with opposing colors. Just trying to help so future videos keep getting better. Great video, thanks. This is a tough game with depth, I received mine today, but I'm not playing for quite a while.
Thank you for watching, Mark! Lots of good points here, let me respond to them, to make sure I'm understanding them. Thank you for creating the list, this is helpful to us and probably a few people that are watching and not wanting to ask. Yes, the Jem'Hadar fighter should have removed the lock during the priority impulse move. Good catch. We missed that during game play. There are a few mistakes in the next episode that we are evaluating to determine if we need to replay it. For the breakthrough successes - The dice are not removed from the pool to determine success. You just need to roll them. See page 22 step 6 "Resolve Outcome." The kickers are where dice are spent. We were looking at the torpedo / projectile rules and our interpretation is that you can have a sensor lock, but the torpedo needs to be within sensor range of the target (4") to use the guided action. Tests were 1 higher for the first half "Threat Analysis" action - we saw this when the Defiant ran up close to the Jem'Hadar fighter. Once the Complication was revealed the extra 1 difficulty no longer is counted in "Demolition Salvo" unless a ship is within 4" of the objective. Let me know if I misunderstood your points. We're all still learning the game and we would like to keep the conversation going. Definitely appreciate the opportunity to tease out these cases. - Ken
@@IONRadio It's that word "remaining" that could mean a big difference and it makes more sense, otherwise the points just keep accumulating for non-complex rolls, "you have to have extra dice that are "remaining" breakthru success that are not included in the roll," again, just to help out. thanks for the reply.
A good interpretation. I’m compiling a list of questions to send WizKids. I will put this on the list. Perhaps we can get some clarifications soon!
@@IONRadio Also, I believe that you can only reroll the hit dice if you have a sensor lock, not all the time. And yes, these are all just suggestions or comments to help fans work thru this bear of a game.
@@mme583if I’m understanding your points correctly(and I might not be 😂), I’m inclined to go with @IONradio interpretation of “remaining” dice results. Do you mean you need extra breakthrough successes to spend as kickers as well as the successes to succeed in the task? On page 23 of the rules when they run through the test example the Feds get a success and a breakthrough success (after rerolls) to get the 2 successes needed. They then spend that one breakthrough success they generated in the Resolve Post Outcome Effects as a Kicker to generate the extra victory point in the example.
Oh my gosh I love this video with all the extra narrative text making it feel like an episode of Star Trek. I can't wait to see more Battle Reports from you. I do have one question. When attacking with a torpedo the card says it detonates when an opposing unit is within range 1", then under warhead the card reads (Target each unit at 1"; if locked opposing units are at1", it attacks only those units) So if you don't have a target lock on the opposing ship and because torpedo's are targetable would the blast radius of an exploding torpedo also catch other torpedo's within that 1" even if they are friendly including any friendly ships within the blast radius.
Yep - that’s my read on it anyway
Thank you for watching! We're glad you enjoyed the episode. On Torpedoes. If you do NOT have a Sensor lock, then you are correct, all units in the 1" blast radius would be attacked. In the case of a sensor lock, then only the locked unit would be affected by the attack.
Not going to watch because I don't want to get spoiled. But the intro looks very promissing. Very jealous that you lucky bastards got an early copy. I am still waiting for my dam copy to come in.
Completely understand, but thank you for watching the intro sequence. This episode is just the intro "learn to play" mission without the script, so pretty safe. For the campaign itself, we will place a "spoiler warning" on the campaign missions - but not necessarily the "one-off" incident missions. In all cases, you should be safe to watch these mission reports through the first "cutscene" after the intro titles. The only thing you'll find is the basic information for that Situation / Overture. Hope you get your copy soon. Our FLGS just got them in yesterday.
Great Video Guys - love the way you present it like a Trek episode - awesome stuff
Happy to hear you enjoyed this one! It was definitely a planned approach as the game plays out akin to a Star Trek episode. We have 3 more in progress (1 in post production, 2 in pre-production) and are looking to have a full "season" of 9 episodes total from just the Core Set. - Ken
This was an awesome presentation! I loved the narrative bits, the graphics, and LCARs displays. And John, I love torpedoes too! Every chance I get, I am double firing torps out the front of the Enterprise and Defiant.
Thanks, Ben! We've been enjoying yours as well. The Graphics and LCARS held up this release, but I felt it was well worth it. Look for updates in the next video as I think I have a way to improve the visuals. As to the torpedoes... I'm going to be keeping my distance from John's ships now... - Ken
(Edited to remove incorrect statement due to me miss reading a part of the rules.) This is an excellent video. A ship can move up to double the warp factor in Inches. (Warp factor 9 = up to 18" of movement)
Could you help identify where the the need to fully cross the system border is? I do not see it in my rulebooks. Our current interpretation is based on page 14, under "Systems." "Areas: A system is a circular area extending around a system center marker... If any part of a unit's base overlaps any part of the system, that unit is in the system." Also on page 14 is the rule specific to Boundaries and Impulse, which has a provision for being partially in a system (you reference this). On page 18, the reference is specific to being out of the sector which is defined as the 3' x 3' play area pg 94 Additional Rules. I know an FAQ / Clarification guide will be out soon from WizKids, this may have more information. - Ken
@@IONRadio You are correct, my apologies. I miss read that part on page 18 and just reread it. I mixed up sector and system in my head. Thank you for correcting my mistake.
No worries. Thank you for checking, as this helps us learn the rules better as well. The game is still new and there is a lot of nuance to the rules. We have been running things by WizKids, but it is always possible we collectively missed some things. Prime example: We know of a minor error in our first episode - no impact to the game, but we caught it in post-production and highlight that in-game.
@IONRadio Agreed, I look forward to more videos.
Just note that the pilot card for that awesome 9q says MAC 3rd regiment but if you compare it to Camospecs or the House Liao book source it is clearly not quite right. Supposed to be a dark copper main color. Unless that changed colors in the ilClan era which I've not seen any published info with such.
After recording this video I was looking into the colors and can't find a match to the art to what has been known on the past. The posters yellow and blue ones have a black triangle and that's the insignia of the 2nd. But that's definitely a new interpretation of the colors from the past. -John
@IONRadio From what I can find the 2nd got the dark blue + undefined trim color that varies from battalion to battalion. Without any further insight I've been doing mine in green and will continue to do so.
Are the minis pre-primed?
No.
Good to know. Thanks! Going to have to wait for some more mild winter weather to prime.
They are not pre primed that grey is the plastic color. Some of the new box sets have a single painted model. That's the star league ones. The paint job is surprisingly good. That box is got in the middle of my move so I didn't have a chance to do an unboxing. -John
Just wanted to say thank you for the great video. Not to short, not to long and straight to the point. I also appreciated the comparisons with with original mech. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for that feedback! I try to make videos that I would want to watch myself. -John
Nice, some new targets for my Avalon Hussars.
All these mechs are pretty ppc heavy will your ac's be able to keep up? -John
These will be divided among the Great Death Legion, and the Free Worlds League.
What regiment do you paint up for the fwl? -John
The Marik Militia.
My son and I are almost finished with the 3rd box. This is an extremely fun game.
Definitely a great co-op system that is easy to get into and keep going! Thank you for watching our series. :)
Need to try and pick this one up at some point…
It's so hard for me to not buy battletech stuff as soon as it comes out. -John
I've hit their website as well. It's down. Wonder if they are still in business.
Their site went down some time ago. Rob has expressed an interest in starting up again, but I have not heard anything beyond that. - Ken
@IONRadio Thanks Ken. Appreciate your reply. 🙏🏻
Darf man das schiff zweimal hintereinander benutzen oder was sagt da die regeln
Ships can only be used once per turn. However it is possible to activate a ship at the end of one turn and activate it first in the next turn (Last-First Activation).
@IONRadio also darf ich nicht das Schiff zweimal hintereinander benutzen sondern muss ein anderes Schiff dazwischen benutzen
@@svenbrucker5370 Entschuldigen Sie mein schlechtes Deutsch. Auf English: Apologies for my poor German. Maybe the UA-cam translation is not very good. Each ship can only activate once per game round. In this game: John will activate one ship, then Ken and so on until all 8 have been activated. In round 2, all ships can activate again.
Dominator is only at close- medium
You are correct. Use of discaps threw me off here.
Great tutorial! I love when a new game comes out having the hoe to play broken up into specific consumable content videos.
Thank you, Shaun! We have a few more "how to" videos covering tests and combat coming over the next month. Our first "mission report" should be coming in December as well. Stay tuned!
@IONRadio I can't wait!!
The base game comes with an enterprise and the enterprise is also sold separately. I assume that’s for people who just want to collect the ships?
This is what we are gathering. WizKids has already stated that the upcoming Enterprise model will not contain anything new. It will have a different paint scheme though (more metalic).
Excellent!
Hahaha!! I love your comment about confusing Klingon captains by going backwards.
I was wondering if someone would catch that. Back off! Back off! - Ken
“What’s she doing?”
Great clear video 👍 Excellent job sirs!
Thank you, acebagerboy!
I'm excited about getting into this game
There are a lot of neat “Trek” things to do in this game. More “how to” and “about” videos are on the horizon!

Loving extra madness - great watch 👍
Glad to hear you are enjoying Extra Madness! 4 more tables in this round.
Love these!
Thanks for watching, KingBonezai!
And the crit is? 15:30
You were expecting something else?
Congratulations, keep up this nice work!!!
Thank you, Luiz! More of Extra Madness will be coming in January.
I've expected a completly different outcome 😮
You and me both.
Oof, those two final crits were unlucky
Yeah, the structural damage on the Dominator and the exact hits on Harrow did not help the Empire here at all.
Ver7 Nice
These extra madness games are getting really impressive! Thank you for all the effort this must take Ken! Great game and great commentary!
Thank you, wolfsigma! This was something I wanted to do as we were only able to field 8 fleets for Madness 2024. I'm very tempted to keep the "elimination style" but only for the purposes of not filming all 8 tables for each of the 3 rounds. I'm having fun with these battles. I'm hoping to roll these out more regularly once I have a chance to sit down and edit videos (end of December). - Ken
I've been waiting for this! Hope my fleet doesn't crash and burn... EDIT: *SPOILERS BELOW* . . . . . Oof. I won't say it was 100% lost at deployment, but it was in my opinion the main factor. Solar Corona was an okay choice, though I would have gone with Contested Outpost - Ackbar's fleet needs to be mobile to survive, so more than likely the objective points would have favored Tarkin. Any ship left behind at the station would have been an easy pick-off. With Solar Corona, center deployment is usually a good option, but the victories were never going to be able to outmaneuver the rebels, so accepting the corona and taking a corner deployment (facing the far corner) would have been better, minimizing the amount of turning the vics need to do to stay on target and giving Ackbar's fleet less room to circle around. With the obstacle placement the central deployment severely limited Harrow's movement options, making the Victory's main vulnerability - it's sides and rear - all the more accessible (and that asteroid hit was ultimately fatal). Deploying in the left hand (bottom of screen) corner would have put most of the obstacles out of play, or possibly even in Ackbar's way. Finally, Harrow should have been at speed 1 to start, letting Devastator get slightly ahead. Devastator is lower points, Palpatine makes it a more painful to shoot at, and IO sidesteps Harrow's main defense upgrades, Tua/ECM. Finally, it would let Harrow threaten ships flanking Devastator, making It nearly impossible to avoid both front arcs.
Robot did not help you out here, Ghost. :(
I can tell you like pushing squadrons because you picked boosted comms for your dog’s offensive-retrofit slot and even added a dish to the model, amazing!
That is too funny! My dog is cosplaying as an Armada upgrade. LOL - Ken
Absolutely wild
Thank you for watching, Wyatt! We had a lot of fun filming this one. I believe this is one of our 2 largest games, and the only one recorded. - Ken
Rare mistake by John at the last activation turn 2. I think Home One turning a hit to the third accuracy would have cleared the Arquitens (alive on one and it seemed two damage was redirected).
The miniatures are impressive but good lord the gameplay is horrible. Like a really bad titanicus with even more extra steps. Ill stick to my attack wing games atleast i can easily explain it to newcomers.
There is a steeper learning curve for this game. I’ll admit that if I want to blow ships up quickly, Attack Wing is probably the better game. However, for the depth of narrative and campaign play, Into the Unknown looks like it can provide a richer experience. I’ll film a video after I’ve had some time with both to provide a better comparison. Thank you for watching the video and for the comment.
Great show. Thanks for sharing. Im thrilled everytime you guys upload something.
Thank you for watching, Jan! We've got more Attack Wing in the pipeline and are looking forward to what everyone thinks of our new "Into the Unknown" series of Battle Reports. We hope these continue to excite you.
Lovely looking ship and that detachable saucer is great 👍
We were amazed at the detail on the top of the Stardrive section.
We were amazed at the detail on the top of the Stardrive section.
Superb job! I've played this mission several times, and it has never gone as smoothly as it did for you here. Your maneuvering was top notch with really tight formations. Very impressive!
Thank you so much! I think we got lucky with some dice rolls, but the plan was to take down the weapons platforms with concentrated firepower. Looks like it worked for me.
She’s massive and so intimidating on the table
Looking forward to seeing a D'Deridex on the table one day...
@ oh yes! I can’t wait for some Romulan tricks in this game.
