    I always learn something new from your well done, comprehensive videos, Kim. I'd be really interested in a presentation about how AI is used by hackers and by corp. security folks/applications. About 3 years ago I did a guest lecture at a local college for a class on Network Security (even tho I never worked in that area). So I created a presentation: A brief history of Machine Learning and its Implications for Network Security. I covered AI techniques in gaming and speech recognition (which I worked on), ending with 2 charts on AI and security (like hackers embedding data in DNS requests to bypass firewalls or doing "credential stuffing attacks", and that some security apps use AI to learn how 'normal' apps work to detect suspicious behavior--I think that's one of the things the infamous Crowdstrike does). Anyway, with all your knowledge you might consider doing some guest lectures at colleges for extra money and exposure.

    This lady is smarter than the teams over at Netgear. They should listen to her, and not just turn a blind eye to all this. We want a safe and clean internet for all. I had some Wyze cams a few years back making hifi signals that made all the animals go nuts, and amazon people dropping boxes. I even showed some people by recording the wyze cameras with a different mic. They just laughed like security and safety is not important. Im like, you dont find it odd that the box drops at the same time as the sound that you cant hear happens?.... Main point safety and security should matter, when I lock something it should stay locked, when I destroy something it should remain destroyed.✌️

    I'm in the market for a new WiFi 6 or 6e mesh system, maybe even a 7 if a good deal comes across, but I have a question about matter, thread devices and how difficult would be to mount or use them through a network switch. Could you maybe do a video on that? Or maybe only about the matter & thread stuff cause the switch would only come into play if I buy a router with limited lan ports

    • @kimandtech
      @kimandtech 13 днів тому

      @rockraphlegal - Thank you for your question. Want to clarify some terms to make my explanation clearer. Matter = the language the the devices "speak" for you to control them Thread = connection between the devices (think of this as like a mode of communication (e.g. WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.)) A Matter device doesn't necessarily mean that it supports Thread. I haven't looked too deep into this matter, but from what I know so far, you'll need a Matter/Thread controller, e.g. Amazon Echo, Google Nest Mini, or Apple HomePod. The network switch alone cannot control your Matter/Thread devices because it doesn't support either Matter/Thread. I hope that helps.

    • @rockraphlegal
      @rockraphlegal 11 днів тому

      @@kimandtech thanks for the info. So, if I understand correctly, the network switch won't make a difference when using matter/thread compatible devices wherever they may be throughout my home network.

    • @kimandtech
      @kimandtech 6 днів тому

      @@rockraphlegal Yes, that's correct as the control is with the Matter/Thread controller, e.g. Amazon Echo, Google Nest Mini, or Apple HomePod.

    Thanks for your reviews of XE5300. With respect to your security concerns, how valid is it if I’m using VPN all the time? Keep up the good work.

    • @kimandtech
      @kimandtech 21 день тому

      @VegasVaron If set up correctly, yes, it can "hide" the traffic from your router since the data since it's encrypted. Thus, making it unreadable by your router. However, you now have a new security/privacy concern that your VPN can see your traffic. Thus, if you're going to using a VPN, please use one that is "safe".

    8:53 why test on different servers? Would it be more comparable if there are less variables i.e. different devices & different servers VS different devices communicating with the same server?

    • @kimandtech
      @kimandtech 21 день тому

      @oliberrr Thanks for bringing that up. I honestly left it at default every time I run my speed test, and all of the speed test results regardless of the server location for the TP-Link Deco BE16000 are not that far off from one another. However, I'll note your recommendation to use the same server next time for the speed test. Thank you!

    well that's good to know about privacy. but for people still paranoid, if you don't want to register a tplink account or sign in to the mobile app to manage the device, then the eap series like say eap-773 (they have a higher tier model that cost more as well) which is part of the omada series, you can managed without a controller, with a controller (software or hardware). it's possible to create a local account and managed it via a web ui, without ever having to sign in to tplink or register an account, also you don't have to enable cloud either, or use their mobile app. though you may want to disable auto updating feature if you want to prevent being pinged i assume. so then you'd have to manually check for firmware updates manually. Or if you want to scrutinize online whether a firmware is ok to be updated to though i don't know how you would go about that. xd deco however is more newbie friendly in configuring/setting up. whereas with omada series you have to have a little more knowledge for setting it up (not overly complicated, as there are guides online like raid owl's omada youtube on omada subject). So yeah for the price as a wifi7 mesh it's quite popular. this deco series. If you want the poe version of the deco, on their website they mention it coming out probably by end of year or next year. But if you can't wait, the omada series has working poe++ omada and deco series wish mesh are not interchangeable i heard. They use different mech technologies.

    Hello Kim! I have watched several of your videos covering WiFi mesh systems. Video production and presentation is top notch! You should have many more viewers. I have a question. I am looking to upgrade my Orbi 50 WiFi system. It works fine I guess, but it is getting older, and last firmware update was in 2022. I suspect it will soon be time to upgrade, if only for security reasons. I upgraded to the Orbi from Google/Nest WiFi due to parental control issues (see below). So back to my question. It is regarding parental controls. Since newer devices (android and apple) like to randomize their mac addresses (same with Windows devices), this defeats parental control that works on IP-addresses. With the router i have (Netgear Orbi 50) I can go to "Advanced->Security>Access Control" and turn on "Allow". Then I control which devices that can accessing my network. This is a "mac whitelist". Thus forcing the devices on our home network to use the items actual mac address, and not some randomized address. Do you know if any of the systems you have tested has this? All the videos I have watched skips this (for me) important issue.

      @bobafett64 Hello! Thank you for your kind words! Thank you for sharing your experience and suggesting something that I can include in my videos! Greatly appreciate it! Unfortunately, I don't recall based on my memory on this capability. As to answer the question, TP-Link only has the ability to block by MAC addresses and not whitelist them. However, Netgear Orbi seems to have the ability to block new devices from connecting - not sure if they can be whitelisted by MAC addresses from the portal afterward though. community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-Wi-Fi-5-AC-and-Orbi-with/MAC-filtering/m-p/2028733 community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-Wi-Fi-5-AC-and-Orbi-with/Whitelist/td-p/2046542

    I noticed your wireless stuff is usually the table top ones you can place them on. Have you tried the wireless acces points? e.g. Ubiquiti, or tplink etc? Even if you can't do the drilling in your home ceiling, you can do an alternative installation setup which i did for myself. 3M double sided adhesive tape strips. You use these to stick the wireless ap mounting to the ceiling, it should be able to support the weight so it won't drop down on your head and smash. Next is cabling. Ideally you want poe+ or poe++ aps. So you can then use a single ethernet cable to power them. My wifi7 ap uses poe++ using a 10gbe port, but my switch only has poe++ 2.5gbe ports. So i went with a DC power cable extender about 20 meters in length. The cat6a ethernet cable is also 20 meters. This should be enough to wired from floor where server network rack is, to the ceiling where the AP is located. Next you want the cable concealer. I went with a PVC one, looks solid nice and clean. Medium size can fit the 2 cables i needed to run it through. This cable concealer also has double sided 3m adhesive strips attached to it, so you can stick them to the wall and ceiling without it dropping. ☺

    • @kimandtech
      @kimandtech 21 день тому

      @AinzOoalG0wn Yeah, I'm kind of limited due to not being able to use a wireless access points. The mounting isn't much of a problem. It's the cabling. It's kind of hard with our current living conditions, but eventually I really do want to have wired connections - especially for my computer setup or TV. It will definitely be at our next place because It's a goal of mine. 😁 I really appreciate it that you're sharing with me how you have yours setup. Your suggestion will definitely come in handy! 👍 Thank you so much!!! 🙏

      @carlosernestozeledon5037 Hello Carlos. Of course, it's possible to allow your users to access the Apple App Store on iOS devices. The only thing is you cannot control what the users download. Thus, I'd highly recommend to hide the App Store and make apps available for download via the Intune Company Portal app for company owned iOS devices. If it's a personal iOS device, then of course we wouldn't want to hide the App Store. I hope that helps!

    Should have used NEXTDNS you would have had logs right away and saved them to Switzerland so they are protected till you choose to delete them. 300000 quires is alot and at 1.99 us a mth its pretty cheap and you get ad blocking abilities. You can block these quires in next dns so it doesn't send traffic.

    just ordered a eap773 wifi7 wireless access point. this can be managed using a local account, so no cloud or sign in to tplink account required. as for router, i use pfsense on a separate hardware. so this is one possible solution i found Kim. We also then aren't forced to use the tplink mobile app to manage the device. Even the controller can be self hosted. Not sure if anything gets leaked, but this is as good as it gets in regards to the privacy concern with tplink. The other option is going for a different brand. I couldn't get hold of ubiquiti u7 pro, so i went with this instead. The tplink eap also has mesh, but it's a different mesh tech than the deco, so they are not interchangeable or so i heard.

    This product works great until it doesn’t. It sells for $500+ and lasts about 1 year. It is NOT worth buying a product when the company doesn’t stand behind their products. Find another way to composite your scapes, this was a waste of my hard earned $$$.

Long story short, i traded in my car, which gave me left me with about 14k left and I put my tax credit leaving me with about 6k left. Im just going to make the remaining payments as is, and then wait for the model y refresh to trade in whenever that comes out.

    Nice update, Kim. BTW remember when I said (long ago) that my new Tesla lots of times wouldn't recognize me to unlock? Eventually I diagnosed that my Samsung Galaxy Android phone was putting the Tesla app to sleep and/or deep sleep. The setting was hidden way down in Settings, then Battery, then Background Usage Limits (yeah, like that's obvious),, Never Auto Sleeping Apps. I think I figured it out when the phone popped up a list of apps that it was about to put into deep sleep. I put this here in case anyone else has the problem.

    How to add these to an existing setup with modem/router for wired devices? Still gonna have wired devices so do we disable the router in the Deco? Does this affect the mesh operation?

      @kimandtech 2 місяці тому

      If you're referring to existing macOS devices that you didn't buy from an approved ABM vendor or were bought before you set up ABM, then you can use Apple Configurator to add to ABM. If you've bought with an approved vendor but forgot to tell them to add to your ABM, you can try reaching out to see if they can still add it; this may have a duration where the vendor cannot go back further than a certain date to add devices. This is the best, no smell, grinds all our organics in fine particles. It is on the floor by the solarium you don’t even know it is working since it is so quiet. We started using it a month ago and no issues with it. Thank you

    Thank you, dear. I’ve learned more from you than I had from the 24 seven tech-support, which is outsourced to countries that I can’t even understand their freaking accent. Unfortunately, I am taking it back today. I’ve wasted 2 1/2 days messing around with this exact model. It’s going right back to Costco. The app is completely useless. It would not detect the satellites. You couldn’t even tell if the satellites were detected on the PC it would show if you opened up your router in a browser that they were there, but the biggest downfall of all is going outside and sitting in the garden under my gazebo. I had no signal at all. Which was less than 60 feet from the bottom satellite, the other satellite upstairs in the loft would be like 40 feet distance and then the main router would be another 20 feet from the loft. My wireless security cameras went from strong signal to medium strength signal. I’m through messing around with this piece of crap!

      @mattheww8059 Oh No! That’s terrible that you wasted so much time on that router system - definitely not worth the headache at all. I was very disappointed with this model. Hope you were able to get something that worked for you!

    Kim what is your thoughts on running the Deco Mesh in ap mode only? Meaning for router i use my existing pfsense. but for the tplink deco mesh i only use for wifi using the ap mode only. Is privacy improved in ap mode? or are you still similarly in the same bad situation in that regard 🤔

    • @kimandtech
      @kimandtech 2 місяці тому

      Great question! I’m not sure to be honest. I’d say it may improve the privacy because certain features are disabled when on AP mode. Here’s a list of features not supported on AP mode. www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/2399/ Maybe when I get a chance to buy another Router, then I can put this model on AP mode to test.

      @@kimandtech ty kim. i heard deco might be releasing a BE63 or BE65 POE model (which is a triband). based on pricing and performance for wired/wireless backhaul for a wireless access point with roaming that just works, i'm very tempted to get the poe version of this. They do have the omada series which does seem to not require logging into tplink (though you still can if you want to), but it's way more pricier than the deco series. I was looking at the Ubiquiti U7 Pro, but based on the reviews it doesn't do well for roaming, and the 6ghz was bad. and they had some sort of vpn bug. 🥲 no choice i guess....

    • @kimandtech
      @kimandtech 2 місяці тому

      @@AinzOoalG0wn I did look into the Omada models, and they’re more for Business than Home, which might explain the extra cost.😄 I haven’t looked into Ubiquity, but I have heard of them. Thank you for sharing!

      @@kimandtech i did look at the ubiquiti U7 Pro, but the 6hz, roaming and vpn performed poorly. So then the choice was to the BE65 Deco (which is the same as the BE63 which is marketed to the US where you probably are. 65 is for asia). There is a POE version supposedly out end of this year or something, that is the one i am looking at. It has 5gbe multigig vs the be65 2.5gbe port. Doesn't seem to be any other good options when tallying in price, performance, availability. Also i noticed for AMD ryzen systems, doesn't seem possible to add wifi7? at least not when trying to use the intel wifi7 pcie addon cards. That in itself is one whole topic x-x; So yeah 2024 doesn't seem like the best year to be getting a wifi7 unless u have to buy an ap.

    Amazing review. It gave me lots to think about. We actually leave at a house but we wanted to optimize the compost creation and we analysed this option. In Romania, this composter is quite expensive and I wanted to try it out first but its not an option. Our living lifestyle is actually one of daily cooking for a family of.4. Our composting daily size is of approx 1 kg/day. The decomposition seems like a.great idea, saving from the size of the composting bins we keep.in the garden. It was a great review! Thank you!

      @nemetirobert6819 Thank you so much for the kind comment and sharing your situation. Romania is a place I want to visit one day. It looks so lovely and calm. 1kg is a large size! This composter is great if your backyard is small since you’ll eventually run out of space to throw the food waste in the backyard, and since you live in Romania, it gets cold and maybe even snow during the winter, so something like this would definitely help turn the kitchen scraps into something useful a lot quicker. Do they have a 30-days return for free that you maybe can take advantage of?
