This is a good demo of the default presets. However, I must say that most of them sound synthetic. Luckily, there are many possibilities to tweak the sound, even in the "Stage" version. I have Pianoteq 8 with just the Blüthner and the Bechstein and rather like playing them in my own customized versions. Try "Bechstein DG Recording 1" in Pianoteq 8.1.3, EQ3 "Vintage" with the 3 anchor points dragged about halfway up, reverb "concert hall", mix 20 dB, duration 3.07 s, pre-delay 0.000 s, room size 32 m, tone +0.20, fx gain -1.1 dB, additional equalizer "Uppermid" with 6-8 kHz enhanced by 3.5 dB for more clarity. That sounds quite good in my Sennheiser HD595 headphones. While some sampled VSTs have an even better sound, Pianoteq's strength lies in its unmatched reliable responsiveness. With the sampled VSTs (even with Garritan CFX and VILabs Modern D) there are always some notes randomly sticking out or sounding too soft within a performance.

0:05 Pianoteq 1 - The very first version of Pianoteq. Sounds surprisingly realistic, the sound character is very clear, but the note attacks are synthetic and the resonance at the end is strange to me. 0:58 Pianoteq 2 - The note attacks sound minimally better but the sound is slightly more reverberated, however the character is warmer. 1:52 Pianoteq 3 - The sound is more distant and slightly less warm. The note attacks are much less defined now. 2:46 Pianoteq 4 - Has a much more direct sound compared to the previous version. The note attacks are now much more pronounced, but remain soft. The strings sound slightly muted. Overall I like this one more than the previous versions. 3:40 Pianoteq 5 - Sounds very similar to Pianoteq 4 but has more harmonics and overtones, resulting in a clearer sound. This is the point where it becomes impossible for me to tell the difference between newer versions and this one. 4:35 Pianoteq 6 - I hear no difference. 5:29 Pianoteq 7 - I hear NO difference. 6:23 Pianoteq 8 - Finally, I hear something different! This sounds just a little clearer than 5 and 6, but the changes are minimal.

Nice demonstration. I wish the settings between versions were more comparable, especially the output. Modartt does binaural mixing so well that I was disappointed with the switch to stereo in the middle. I remember the change from version 5 to 6 being the nail in the coffin for just about every sample based piano. I just couldn't distinguish from a real piano after that.

I have to say I love PianoTeq 8 it’s my favourite piano for composing with, nice demo with great playing.

How did you get the PSR-S770 video out?

Well, this sound is... maybe acceptable but not really good. I bought Pianoteq 8 Stage with just the Blüthner and the Bechstein and only the Blüthner sounds good to my ears. The Erard 1922 from the free KIVir collection is also quite nice, but that is a simulation of a historical instrument with a somewhat special sound - not everybody's cup of tea.

I recently bought Pianoteq 8 - never owned any of the previous versions. According to your comparison, there is a huge improvement. The Steinway D sounds quite electronic in Pianoteq 7, whereas the sound of version 8 is much more natural. Still, I prefer the various sampled Steinways over Pianoteq's Steinways, but I do play the Pianoteq 8 Blüthner. I think that is the best Pianoteq instrument, and I like Pianoteq's unbeatable responsiveness.

What device are using with this

Excellent! But the drums are not mixed well,especially the snare, they do not integrate well with the rest of the instruments. Check the mixture with a multimeter

Decent sound, still not as good as Production Voices Concert Grand LE, which is also a New York Steinway D sound.

Steinway D is more bright. Both sound awesome. I have a 1886 Steinway K52 but i bought Pianoteq and im very happy. Im a piano tuner too. 👏

Really wish I knew about Production Voices sooner. I just purchased Concert Grand LE on Thursday when it went on sale. I do still want 300 Grand, don't know when I'll get it.
