    4:25 to be fair here in Estonia snow is also now more rare. You got lucky becausse rn almost all snow melt. This year winter was mostly above 0 degree. But 10-12 years ago it was -33c sometimes. And summers are getting more hot here too, now tornadoes in south estonia is every year thing. I also recommend you to visit Tartu and Elva. Tartu is in my opinion better than Tallinn and Elva is my home town that is very beutiful and covered in forest. 40 percent of town is Pine forest. South Estonia kurort town but better to do it in summer. 23 June is best time because of Jaanipäev.

      Yeah I guess we were lucky. We enjoyed it a lot actually, made for a nice "winter-wonderland". I was in Tallinn three years ago and there it actually had decent snow from what I remember. Tartu is also on my list! In my hometown in Austria it only snows a couple of times per winter anymore and usually it just melts in a couple of days. Despite having extended perios below 0°C, it just doesn't snow much.

    There is less taxation on a lot of products in Germany than in Denmark and consumer prices are also generally lower. This brings hundreds of thousands of Danes to Germany yearly to shop for cheaper products. Especially candy, alcohol, and soda. There are even special laws in Schleswig-Holstein that make it possible for Danes to buy cans and bottles outside of any of the two countries' deposit return systems, which is a huge political dispute between both countries and the European Union. All it takes is for the Danish customers in these shops to sign a paper inside the store, promising they will bring the products bought in the store back to Denmark within 24 hours and never again return them to German soil. It's mostly Danes within 100 km of the German border that shops here often. But everyone else also does when they've been in Germany for other reasons and tourist busses if often arranged from all parts of Denmark for people going on full-day trips to these stores. You will find them all along the Danish-German border and even on the island of Fehmarn 100 km east of Flensburg, before the ferry to Denmark. Fleggaard is the biggest brand, but there are a lot of brands, mostly Danish-owned. You will even find large retail parks mainly aimed at a Scandinavian audience, with fast food restaurants and larger stores. But the German Supermarkets also love the Danes shopping at their stores. German Lidl's, close to the Danish border, also have signs in Danish, some Danish Lidl-products you won't normally find in German Lidl and they accept Danish currency. If you fuel your car at a German gas station close to the border, you will receive a receipt that also shows the amount to pay in DKK. As for the Danish school. There are a lot of them in Schleswig, as there's a considerable Danish minority in the region. On the contrary, you will also find German schools in the southern part of Denmark as there is a German minority there also. This has to do with the fact that Schleswig-Holstein and thereby Flensburg, was under the rule of the Danish king until 1864 when Prussia took all the areas away from the Danes in a, for the Danes, humiliating battle that didn't last long. At that time northern Schleswig and thereby also Flensburg, had a Danish majority population, while Southern Schleswig was more mixed and Holstein was mostly German-speaking. Under Prussia, Flensburg saw a rise in German-minded citizens, but the northernmost part kept their mostly Danish identity even though they were oppressed and forced to adopt German culture officially. When Germany lost WW1, a referendum was held and Northern Schleswig voted to become fully within the country of Denmark. Today this part of Denmark goes by the name of Sønderjylland (Southern Jutland). The southern part of Schleswig, including Flensburg, which was now majority German, also voted and chose to remain in Germany. But to this date, there are still minorities on both sides, living in peace and harmony except for the inevitable friendly banter. Both minorities have their own newspapers reporting on local news in their native languages. The Danish-language newspaper articles you saw on the street were from the Danish minority newspaper in Southern Schleswig, called Flensborg Avis. And from 2011 to 2016 Flensburg even had a mayor from the Danish minority. And today, the Danish municipality of Tønder on the Danish-German border out west has a German-minority mayor from the German minority party in Southern Denmark.

      Thanks for the infos! I can imagine the German shops are happy to serve the Danish customers ;) A similar thing is on the border with Switzerland. All the Swiss come and do their shopping in Germany because it's cheaper. I'm glad to hear that the Danish and Germans are getting along well and that both languages are used. Also since Schleswig has been part of Denmark now I also understand why this area looked so "Nordic" to me.

    Why ruin a perfect city with tourism? It's obvious they do absolutely fine without it.

    • @whr_vlogs
      @whr_vlogs 11 днів тому

      I get where you are coming from. But tourism is good as long as the city and the people can benefit from it. If let's say Airbnbs start replacing all the regular people's apartments in the center or the daily life of people get's disturbed by the tourists then it's overtourism and that sucks. But every city has the power to regulate. We have some awful examples in Austria such as Salzburg and Hallstatt. Here locals are getting outpriced and the whole city/town's economy is only dedicated to the freaking tourists. So I get your concern. Too much is never good.

    • @whr_vlogs
      @whr_vlogs 16 днів тому

      Oh that bloody tailgate!! What they did first is they tried some foam sealant. That did not work unfortunately, still leaked like before, just less. So second time, they used some full on body glue (the stuff they use to glue windshields in). That did stop the darn leak into the trunk at least, but they must have missed a spot or something ran away because water still runs into the tailgate. So right now, it does not leak into the trunk anymore, however the water still collects and fills up. To properly fix it, I would suggest you get such a body glue but make sure to smear on a really thick nice layer so it covers the whole top. I just stopped caring at this point and deal with it the way it is. The tailgate is now sometimes kinda heavy but oh well, I will just leave it alone for now. Also, this tailgate is now never coming apart again thanks to the glue haha

    Hi this is an informative video. Thanks. I am an Indian engineer working in Piacenza (small city 60 km from Milan in Italy), and i am recieving an offer for work in flensburg in a better company. I think the weather will be a bit more challenging there... lesser sun. But the language issue of more people speaking English should be better with respect to Italy. What are your thoughts about these issues?

    • @whr_vlogs
      @whr_vlogs Місяць тому

      Well, I think the weather will take some time getting used to (less sun, more rainy and windy than in Milan). About the English: I know that in bigger, more international Geman cities the people usually speak good English but since Flensburg is smaller, I'm not sure. The young people surely speak it well, the older ones probably bad. But I can be wrong. For certain I can say in the rural areas in Germany almost nobody speaks any good English (same here in Austria haha).

    Old beautiful buildings are deliberatley neglected and left to fall appart with years ,so they can be demolished and to build new luxury hotels or office buildings because most of them are in downtown, where square meter is arround 5000-6000 euros,so if you walk in sofia centre and you see some old lady that looks she live with 300euros a month this is not the case,cause she probably owns an apartment that worth millions😂other case is when a homeless person 😉put some of the buildings on fire ,like the case with the famous tzar stables in sofia,that spark a huge scandal,and about ivan vazov he is called the patriarch of the bulgarian literature and was nominated for nobel prize arround ww1,along with another bulgarian writer pencho slaveikov the guy on 50 lev bill,and the person on 10 leva bill doctor peter beron invented the first electronic device for recognising the gender of the baby in the 19th century and wrote the first bulgarian school textbook

    I have just followed a Scot: Steve Marsh as a single passenger on this Ferry. And I found the Ferry Harbour on Iceland on Google Maps! It is very small, with only a few roads, except the one out.

      Yeah, the ferry arrives in this little port in Seydisfjördur. It's located on the East of Iceland; I then had to drive across the whole country in one day to meet my friends in Reykjavik.

    The lack of controls is not just due to Schengen, Iceland is a part of the Nordic Passport Union, which predated Schengen and opened borders between the Nordic nations. Denmark and Iceland have a long history of open borders, hell go far enough back and Iceland was a part of Denmark. Like Schengen they only do spot controls unless they have reasons to close borders further for a reason. Nordic citizens basically have access to additional rights in other Nordic nations above those granted by Schengen or the free movement of peoples under EU law.

    For me Flensburg will stays in my memories as a shopping place while working in Vejen, Denmark. Every friday/saturday we drove 160km to buy a cheaper food in german supermarkets and really affordable alcohol with a nice selection for a scandinavian market and german prices. LOL AFAIK Flensburg is famous for being the last the 3-rd reich capital and in XIX century it was famous for a massive amount of RUM distilleries. What scarred me in Flensburg - how shockingly ugly is an average female population which is even uglier rather than in Britain! I haven't seen such a things in the rest of Germany ! LOL

      I can relate to the pricing; in Denmark everything is just so much more expensive haha.

    Nah we do drive pickups in Europe, especially professionals. Don’t see many because it has to do with gas, taxes… Hilux arrived in Europe because we couldn’t get the Tacoma (gas too expensive for the American engine)! Also for instance in France, if not a company car, your new generation pickup will cost you a tax and a “malus” on your insurance.

    • @whr_vlogs
      @whr_vlogs 3 місяці тому

      Yeah, most pickups in Europe are used as company cars (same as in my case; it's tax-deductible as it's a commercial vehicle).
