Sweet and Sour Shrimp
It's been a while since I've posted a video. I'm making sweet and sour shrimp today. It's very easy and delicious. Give it a try and let me know in the comment box below.
Sweet and Sour Shrimp
Ingredients:
Shrimp
• 1 lb Shrimp
• ½ c corn starch/rice starch
• 1 egg
• 1 tbsp corn starch
• ¼ tsp salt
• 1/8 tsp white pepper/black pepper
Vegetables
• 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
• ½ c red bell pepper (diced)
• ½ c green bell pepper (diced)
• 1 small onion (diced into bitesize pieces)
• Green onions (diced)
Sweet and Sour Sauce
• 3 tbsp ketchup
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 2 tbsp distilled vinegar
• ½ c chicken broth
• 1/8 tsp salt
• 1 tbsp of cornstarch + 2 tbsp water for corn starch slurry
Directions:
• Add the salt and pepper to the shrimp and mix to incorporate the seasonings. Crack the egg in a bowl and whisk. Add the egg mix to the shrimp and mix. Add the 1 tbsp of corn starch to the shrimp and mix, set to the side.
• Pour the ½ starch/flour to a plate/platter, coat the shrimp in the flour. Shake off any excess flour and place the shrimp onto a separate plate/platter.
• In a frying pan add some cooking oil and heat on medium heat. Allow the oil to come up to temperature and fry the shrimp for 1 to 2 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towel. Remove any flour remains in the oil.
• Turn the heat up to medium high and allow temperature to rise. Fry the shrimp for a second time for 10 seconds, remove and drain.
• In a clean frying pan add some oil to the pan. Once the oil becomes hot, add the diced onions and sauté for a couple of minutes. Add diced bell peppers and sauté for another minute or so. Add the mince garlic and stir and cook until vegetables are tender. Transfer the vegetables to a plate and set aside.
• Add one tablespoon of corn starch to two table spoon of water in a small bowl and mix to make a slurry.
• In the same frying pan, add the chicken broth, ketchup, salt and sugar on low heat, cook until the sugar dissolves. Add in the vinegar, stir and mix well. Allow the sauce to come to a simmer, slowly add the slurry a little at a time to thicken the sauce. Continue to cook and stir for about a minute.
• Add the green onions and cooked vegetables to the sauce and stir and mix well. Turn the heat off.
• Add the fried shrimp and stir until the shrimp is well incorporated with the sauce. Plate, serve with some white rice and enjoy!

What do you consider as a single portion and how many calories for it without any dipping sauce?

    • @deliciousnook4388
      @deliciousnook4388 3 роки тому

You can half the recipe for a smaller portion, however, I usually cook family style due to having a larger family. As for exact calorie count, I don’t have that information, this appetizer wouldn’t be consider a low calorie food item since you do need the fat to help the shrimp to stay moist and the cooking method is to deep fry it.

    • @brianbassett4379
      @brianbassett4379 3 роки тому

@@deliciousnook4388 I asked about what you consider a single portion to be... 1, 2, 10 balls? And calories are easy just divide the total calories used by the number of balls and then add 100 to 150 more calories for per ball for deep frying them. Why do you advocate people eat this when you don't even know how many calories there are, let alone the real nutritional data? I had a drug dealer in the 70s that wasn't concerned about his "followers" health either.

@@brianbassett4379 I just read this exchange of messages and can't help asking out loud how one can be that ridiculous to count on a third person to tell you what is healthy food or not for him/herself 🙄 ? Not to say one dare blaming a UA-camr who nicely shared to all a delicious deep fry recipe only because we would swallow too many calories if we are greedy enough to eat too much of that food🙄 What is common sense for? PS: I don't know the UA-camr personally. This is the very first time I happened to check his/her recipe by chance. I would like to take the opportunity to thank him/her for his/her nice work.
