      @BoomingAcres 8 днів тому

      @@edwardgrand it's super counter intuitive (like I mentioned!) but it's true when more thought beyond 'plastic is bad!' goes into the process. The weight of a dozen jars is a few hundred bags, and when transporting the fuel usage goes up pretty quickly, not to mention so, so many more bags can be shipped in the space thkse jars would take up. Then you've got mining to make the metal lids, the glass, the rubber, the paint, and the packaging for jars (which also come wrapped in plastic anyways!). Then on the front end, the point of the wasted energy when processing bags vs jars is super wasteful, for every pound of grain you're sterilizing you're also cooking a pound of glass, so 50% waste! I think last time I did some quick math you'd need to reuse a glass jar something like 13 times for it to be roughly as eco-friendly as using a bag, one time. It's very counter intuitive but the fact is, jars are a less friendly option compared to bags, and they're also harder to work with especially at scale!

    I ordered the 5 lb and a 2 lb. Once colonized, the five pound bag wouldn't fit without folding over in my heated tub. So I put tin foil down in perlite, cut the bag out and put it on the perlite. Nothing's infected yet, 🙏, But nothing's happening either. Seen the rookie do it. Maybe I shouldn't have followed, but I did. Still waiting for the 2 lb bag. Seems to be extremely slow colonizing. Just a rook myself, trying to learn, have had success in the past. But I'm struggling this time. Appreciate you & what you guys put out, and helping us rookies. Think I'm just going to order 2 lb bags until I get a bigger tub. Anyways, thank you for helping us newbies out. What works for most varieties is having a light on a 12 on 12 off cycle nearby and dropping the ambient temperature to around 68-70 degrees. Doing this for 2 weeks usually gets a harvest out! When growing in a tent, use a 4" vent fan for intake and hepa filter the air. This would create a positive pressure sterile air environment for the cost of a hepa filter and fan. After pressure cooking, I put the medium directly into a monotub hot and used the heat to disinfect the monotub. Ready to inoculate. Almost every video I've seen about inoculating, people aren't using a mask. Gloves are important but, masking is too. Breathe onto a mirror, the exhaled moisture gets into and onto the material people are working with. I'd wager, this specific issue is causing infections.

    • @BoomingAcres
      @BoomingAcres 19 днів тому

      Yes, positive pressure scrubbed air is the way to go for a grow tent! If you're growing a large amount, a CO2 meter can help dial in how often you need to run your vent fan, and you can then schedule your FAE automatically with a simple timer set up based on your CO2 numbers, or you can get an AC Infinity CO2 outlet to do it according to the actual CO2 amounts in real time! I'd actually say a mask is more important than gloves! With gloves you might be touching things you might not need to touch, and unless you're mixing a tub you basically don't need to touch anything that you shouldn't touch. However with breathing unless you wear a mask your breath will get onto everything. If you're inoculating without a mask, as long as you work quickly and in a sterile manner you'll be fine, so long as you're not doing grain to grain and just doing syringe inoculations. Wet rot is actually going to be a prime indicator of your breathing causing issues, the bacteria that causes wet rot is abundant in our noses and mouths!

    I got a 5 pound all in one bag from you today & was wondering if after the 1st harvest could I just pour the contents into a monotub for my 2nd flush to maximize my yeild 1:36 more or would I have to soak or wet it? I appreciate any suggestions! I knew a guy that used alot of fancy equipment & overnight got tired of using everything & stopped using lighting, temperature controlled setup,gloves,alcohol,air holes etc. he just inected the culture into Uncle bens, then after few weeks dumped them into a tupperware container with lid (no modifications at all) just opening the lid to harvest & said he's never had an unsuccessful grow & sometimes simpler is just better. Id still sanitize everything but it gave me hope in how resilient they really are & overcome my fear of them not growing I suppose

      @BoomingAcres Місяць тому

      You would never want to spawn a project that has already fruited to more substrate. You'll trap contaminants that landed on the surface during fruiting and harvesting in the mix and it'll likely contaminate. Best bet for going low tek is just to use grow bags, substrate, and unmodified tubs, it works great and requires little to no interaction! I would never recommend using Uncle Ben's personally but people have some success with them! Simple is definitely a great option!

    What do you do if the mycelium starts to colonize upward into the soil when only one third of the grain is colonized? What happens is you get a ball of colonized unmixed grain/soil that takes hold then that pushes upward then your left with a bag at the bottom of uncolonized grain and the soil starts to drop downward and mixes with the uncolonized grain so it is very uneven and what if you end up with a portion of grain that will not colonize? Will this start to break down into bacillus? If this happens can you open the bag and take out the ball of the good colonized substrate and transfer to a separate tray into a separate chamber, let that colonize more then introduce fruiting? Not sure what to do with the other half that would remain in the bag... try to let that sit and hope it colonizes? If there were two ports on opposite sides of the bag would this stop this from happening? Maybe the grain would colonize well this way and evenly then all you have to do is mix the soil w/ grain and make an even substrate.

    • @BoomingAcres
      @BoomingAcres Місяць тому

      You can let the mycelium go where it wants, it's not an issue. Once at least 50% of the bag is colonized, be it grain or substrate, you would mix your bag, which will then be able to fully colonize from there. Life does not break down into other life forms, bacillus would need to be introduced to the bag to be present, so as long as contamination was not introduced, it will not form. Just let nature do its thing, and once enough is colonized, mix thoroughly, then wait for the full colonization to complete.

    • @BoomingAcres
      @BoomingAcres 2 місяці тому

      @@davehanks7861 you can! Some varieties don't need the extra air, some do, so for these brief instructions we didn't include that option however on our website we detail fruiting methods that include modifying the bag and fruiting outside of the bag as well!

      Not recommended, since you're adding something that isn't sterile to something that is sterile. Just like there's some contaminants that can survive alcohol, there are some that can survive peroxide, so it's best to just uncap your needles and use them straight away. As with a lot of things in life, they're fine until they're not. That's when the problems come up.

    I have done 15 grows so far. 13 of your all in one bags and 2 uncle ben tek shoeboxes. I had a 100% success rate with your bags and both of my shoeboxes had contamination issues.

      @@BoomingAcres there is a lot more that can go "wrong" with Uncle Bens or any other method. The bags take any guesswork out. I turned my first 5 liquid culture syringes into 5 jars of culture so my only cost per grow now is the all in one bag.
