Just wanted to thank you for the detail you have in these videos, it's going to be a massive help in my next project re-shelling a model 3! Have you tried out any of the autopilot features yet?
No problem. That's the whole point of the videos! So Autosteer obviously won't work because I don't have the Tesla steering. I think that Traffic aware cruise control will work once I sort out the ESP emulation ( but not working yet). It does render the lanes/vehicles on the screen.
Amazing video as always Sydney. I can't believe you integrated the parking sensors! Once she is all complete, it would be amazing to see an hour long video where you show everything on the Rover.
I am loving all the progress you're making Syd!
@@jasonallenberman Thanks Jase. We'll have to organise another ride and I can show it to you in person.👍
😊
What part of the country are you in ? Are you in the snowes or further north in south East Australia
Hey, Further towards the coast than the Snowies. Cathcart area.
Worlds Quietest Land Rover I love it.
oh my good god!!!!!!! so much work 😮
Bravo Syd 👏👍
Looks amazing Sydney!! I have a video request... Can you make like an hour long, super in depth video of this project? This thing is sick and I want to see more!!
Thanks Winston. When it's done (as in engineered and legally drivable) I'll definitely do a summary video with all the things... ;)
Lol. " The other big benefit of the fraw is the aero effect ". On a 110 Landrover ???? l got a laugh out of that . But seriously , using that space is a great idea. The flexibility of design is a real advantage of an ev . lf the radiator/coolers were located somewhere else that fraw could become fraws. All the stuff that you don't want inside or on top of the car could live in there.
Ha! Yeh, Land Rover and aero dynamics don't usually go together but the thing is that I feel like there is plenty of scope for improvement and it's hard to make it worse! I've seen the evaporator mounted at the back of the chassis which would give a fair but more room.
only problem i see is rain/water dripping down that checkerplate. also those kings latches tend to fail so i would have a 2ndary latching/secure mechanism just in case
Rain won't get in when I get my friend to alloy weld the gaps ;). Thanks for the heads up on the Latch.
That's a pretty slick idea, Sydney
Thanks!
Where is your putty knife
How much range to do you expect. I am currently doing exactly what you are doing with a Humvee M998. Its an American military jeep. I know I'll need more range, so im trying to figure out how to parallel the battery modules for more range.
@@Chawaonga I'm expecting about 200 to 250km highway range although yet to test this! Range can be improved through tyres and aero mods mainly.
Congrats
Congrats mate..!!
Thanks!
I keep thinking of a small hole cut in grill to insert a 3/4" drive socket to the crankshaft.
Where did you get all the info about how to do this job?
A mix of places really. You can get access to Tesla service manuals through service.tesla.com and a lot I just worked out myself. Fellten now have pdf instructions on their site - I might add that to the video description!
Interesting 🤔 How about placing the spare wheel on the bonnet like the old landies!!
Yes. Definitely a possibility! My old series 3 had it on the bonnet. Apparently improves aerodynamics as well! The main reason I don't want to is because it makes the bonnet very heavy and I will be using the front (frunk) for storage. Dunno, might still be worth it...
Go supercharge it!
As soon as I am allowed to drive it on public roads I will! (need to get it through engineering first).
Use dextron and acitone 50 /50 mix
slick!! 😍
Looking good
Recycling at it's best!
I guess you could say I recycled the wiper motor but does that mean I uncycled the original Land Rover motor? 🙂
amazing 😊
The attention to detail on this thing is INCREDIBLE
Amazing, I’m nervous about opening up my working Tesla to install a LSD.
It's fine. What's the worst that could happen.
the whole project has been a very impressive demonstration of problem solving skills! 👏👏
Thanks Geoff. Does exercise the brain a fair bit!
You make it look so easy! What's your next project?
Don't get me thinking about more projects Andrew! There's too many exciting opportunities!
This project is so impressive, the amount of work and the attention to detail is really admirable. The Landi is going to live forever now 🙂
Thanks!
Unofficially the worlds most quiet and reliable Landrover, or so I've heard.
Well - When I make the power steering pump a bit quieter it might be!
Spray it with some WD40
That is so inspiring, I'm going to watch this episode if I have a flat spot during my build. Will you position the HVIL resistors outside of the wrapped loom in case they burn out or fail? Or would that only be needed for the airbag module replacement resistors? Great work
Thanks Andrew! Can't imagine ever having an issue with the HVIL resistors - there's never going to be much current going through them. The airbag resistors on the other hand will have a decent surge if the airbag is triggered (although there will be much larger concerns if that happens). :)
You are missing an engine.
Oh no! Must have fallen out somewhere!
🤣
Do you have app access to this car? Is the car connected to LTE? Can the car software update? I have so many questions haha, I love this build!
Unfortunately the car isn't talking to Tesla anymore so app isn't usable and doesn't update (but at least I have fast charging). It does have lifetime premium connectivity though so LTE is usefull!
Best EV build on the planet
Syd is the man 👍👍
Congrats on it running and driving
Thanks! As you would know - solve enough problems and you get to drive! :)
a silent land Rover!!! 🎉🎉
A lot quieter than the Diesel that's for sure Geoff! Now I just need to make the power steering pump quieter!
Do you foresee any issues arising from OTA updates or will you keep it on its current version and not update?
It hasn't updated since 2021 (2021.4.3) so very old! I think that the security certificate has expired and a higher access Toolbox version needs to be used to resolve this (which I don't have access to). The downside is that I don't get all the new features and improved UI that come with later firmware updates. The upside is that Tesla can't disable fast charging through firmware updates.
Does that mean the app doesn't work with it if the security cert has expired?
Also did you add a capacitor in place of the front drive inverter?
@@broker260 Yes unfortunately. The car shows up on my app but no communication with it. :(
@@broker260 No extra capacitor needed luckily. Obviously the capacitor in the rear drive inverter is enough for the pre charge :).
YESSSSSSSSSSSS 🎉👍👍
Hey mate, this is unreal. I’m halfway through my build here in NSW. Any chance we could have chat?
No worries! Flick me an email (go to my home page - "more about this channel" to find it!)
wowsers, well done
Congrats Syd.. 👍 I’ve been following your conversion since day 1. You are genius!!
Fantastic work, Syd! I'm looking forward to the comparison drive at that remote property from your pre-conversion post😊
Thanks Andrew - You and me both!
yay!! 🎊 🎉
THE VIDEO WE HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!! Incredible work Sydney!
Thanks Winston!
Amazing job. I have put a Model3 motor and battery in to a VW transporter but nothing as cool as this project. Well done on all aspects.
Thanks! A VW transporter seems to be a really good choice for integrating Model 3 bits in to.
@@sydneyg007 it was fairly simple to do as I used an aftermarket ECU to control the motor and battery.
Wahoo! Awesome! Sidney your a genius! So cool to see your build up and running. You figured out that little problem quick. Here I was thinking it was a seat sensor or something. Take it easy, Casey
Thanks Casey. Had me a little stumped. Seat occupancy is a good guess. Was sort of behaving like that wasn't it!
Congratulations mate . That is a major milestone knocked off.
Thanks Adrian. Yes, definitely feels like a milestone!
Awesome Can I book a ride?
No booking required. Come around and have a drive. 😁
