What an opportunity to find and work on a car like this in Ireland. Has to be a one off chance and something we'll never experience again. Having said all that, iconic as the belair is, this example was still a rusty pile that hadn't run in 40 years! Can we change that? Hit play and find out!!! You had this when you were living out in Castletroy I think Jack? Remember calling out to you at one stage when you were fitting the engine
@@jamesgiltinan6748 Yeah I owned it about 13 years ago and sold it to the young lad I got it from this time. He pulled the engine, stripped it and that was it for 12 years!
This is one of my favorite videos
@@ryandull6581 Same! 😁 Thanks a million though, really appreciate it! 🤝
Love your content man! So down to earth and genuine. All that fertiliser might be a tell tale sign of why it's so rusty. Fertiliser is actually slightly caustic and therefore corrosive. I've seen some rusty beetles but this one takes the cake body-wise, but I suspect this isn't the worst one chassi-wise...🤷♂️ Love from sweden!
@@RosarioSound Thank you! Always great to hear that because we have no idea what we are doing! 😂
I taught myself to drive in my brothers 4 speed saloon back in the 90s. Same as red one parked in the corner @32:38.I passed my test first time. My brother had 2 Corollas as Taxis,a Diesel Estate with a high roof and a petrol saloon. The KE70 always have a place in my heart. I grew up on a small South Pacific island and these Corollas were everywhere. Always bring back memories when I see one (rarely) here in UK.
@@XIXjlo That's cool man! They were everywhere here in the 80s and 90s too. Farmers used them to fill gaps in hedges!
@@CannibalCars I will own and drive one again one day.
@@XIXjlo Me too! 🤝
I had a 1974 and it had a small electrical fire in 1989 and the whole car burned down. My dad had to hack-wire the headlights and used wrong guage wire I guess.
Listening to you all I see where my Jamaican accent came from....like the way you pronounce the word long ( lang) theres a connection between the African slaves and the Irish working alongside each other in the sugar plantations in Jamaica.
@@sheldonlamey7010 For sure man! 🇯🇲 🤝🇮🇪 Look up 'the black Irish of Montserrat' documentary on here and you will hear mad similarities. Thanks for watching the show! ❤
What did you guys do for oil...did you use what it had or did you change it In just curious what is better for a first start since ill be doing the same to am old Carina.
@@sheldonlamey7010 We used what was in it. There are mixed thoughts on it. If you aren't sure of the engine condition I would suggest waiting until it is confirmed good before spending money on oil. If you know the engine is good then it is no harm changing out the fluids early on or before you start it.
Class stuff as always lads. Looking forward to episode 2 👍
@@87kb1 Thanks Keith! 🤝
Great to see you guys bak on the 'tube". Hope all is well. That Range Rover certainly beyond the T cut stage. Always a good laugh to see raising the dead. Keep up the brilliant work :)
@@nickalderson4563 Thank you!
The last decent Range Rover with a reliable engine!
Love the intro! and cant wait to see what you guys do with this beast! Cheers for sharing.
Thank you! Keep an eye out for episode 2! 🤝
A great video of this unique rangey. This one comes with air con - via the A posts and floor.
Really efficient aircon system! 😂
great work I've never seen a manual 300 here in the u.s.
Brilliant video lads..your videos are always funny and entertaining! With the body and frame being goosed would you consider putting the V8 into something else? Keep up the great work. Luimneach Ábu!!
Thanks man! 🤝 Would love to something like that but it's looking like someone else is taking it on and giving us the chance for the next car and episode!
Fair play Jack! Channel growing nicely 👌
Thanks Keith! Appreciate it! 🤝
Glad to see ya back! Hope all is good 👍
would love to see this stripped down and rebuilt not fully restored but made driveable ... keep the character and save this classic i love it...
So would I! Fingers crossed the next owner has the same plan! 🤞
Great video. Says a lot too that even a Rover engine can be got running again compared to what's being made now. Fair play lads 👍.
Thank you! These were a cool engine in fairness!
Oh hell yes, 2 episodes in like a month!?! This thing does look like it was done well back in the day! I like it!
And another episode in the works too!
Always a treat to.watch you guys fair play. Love the vice grip vibes
Thanks so much! Appreciate that 🤝
Unreal! I cannot believe how easily this barked off! I'm going to want this engine for my MGB now!
You are too late man! It's already gone! 😂

😂😂😂 Will it run! By any means necessary!

I’ve only just seen this for sale on Facebook marketplace

New subscriber!! Do you sell the cars on once running for projects or do you keep them
Thanks! Usually sell to fund the next episode! But all depends! We still have the beetle. You should check that episode! 🤝
Last saw that old goat in 2006-7 she’s wasn’t rusty and was sat at our yard in Wiltshire 👍

YFX 835M comes up on DVLA vehicle check as Green 1973 Rover with a 2400cc Diesel engine. Date of last logbook issued - March 2012.
She got beefed up somewhere along the way so!
Good to see Commander Riker back. He's not 6'4" though. The elbows of hoodies work better with a bit of oil. I believe the Rover V8 was originally a Buick design, fair play to it for bursting into life. My father used to do the LPG conversions back in the 70s/80s and we didn't have one, that'll tell you how good they were. I'm glad someone responsible came in to clean the headlight at the end.
All hail Pollycam! Great to see you back, gents, cheers from the States.
Thank you! 🇺🇸🤝🇮🇪
Yeah 🤘🏻 i cant wait to see more 😄 Greetz from Germany 🫡
Episode 2 coming ASAP! 🤝
I've the same engine in a stage 1 series 3, it's running a bit lumpy so I can't wait to see what yous do to get it sorted.
Keep an eye out for episode 2 asap! 🤝
Just saw the lpg tank, if you get that off, it'd be a handy shop stove for the shed
Have my MUG of coffee, slice of cake and now a Cannibal Cars episode too, today might be raining, but it's looking up now

Thought about putting the eggs under a heat lamp for a week or 2. Never know depending on how many days it was away from the Mom. Great video mate.

It would be great if you cannibalised all the bits and engine from the 300D into the 200D. Great to see ya back releasing content. We missed ya ⚔️🤘🎬

Introductory paragraph from the Wikipedia page for this Mercedes engine: "The OM617 engine family is a straight-5 diesel automobile engine from Mercedes-Benz used in the 1970s and 1980s. It was sold in vehicles from 1974 to 1991. The OM617 is considered to be one of the most reliable engines ever produced with engines often reaching over 1,000,000 km (620,000 mi) without being rebuilt and is one of the key reasons for Mercedes' popularity in North America in the 1980s, as it was powerful and reliable compared to other automotive diesels of the time."
