I built this kit a couple of times and the bottom wing seems twisted somewhat,but nothing filler couldn't solve.

I remember building that Helldiver kit as a kid, and not enjoying it that much but that was more I recall because of the glossy dark sea blue Humbrol paint job. Took what seemed like week to fully dry. 😂

As a child of the 1970's I think those 80's box art are so lame compared to the proper ones - such as the brilliant art work on the Sea King box - but that just my view not a criticism. Wasn't this 'photo' style box when Airfix was part of Palitoy rather than Humbrol? Anyhow great stuff as always. Thank you.

Or use water soluble filler so you don't have to sand and just use a paint brush or cotton bud.

You showed a kit of the F84 Thunderstreak and mentioned that it came with both French and Israeli markings. I noticed the Israeli logo on the box as well. I am puzzled: the Israeli Air Force never had this plane in service! The period when the F84 was flown had no US planes in the IAF, only French. The first US planes that entered service with the IAF were the F4 Phantom and A4 Skyhawks. This was following the French embargo on Israel following the 1967 war.

Why do you apply 3 coats ?

You were lucky. I bought 3 of these and 2 of them had completely useless brushes. Good product otherwise.

I've recently moved to only using water-based acrylics and have tested many brands (AK3G, MMP, Hataka, Ammo, Lifecolor) and for me AK3G came out best overall when tested for ease of spray, colour match and toughness. I use flow improver and retarder along with thinner in my mix. Atom paints are great but their range of accurate RAF WWII colours is poor right now.

I built the Sea King about 1978 or so - it was a kit that had ben given to one of my brother's friends for their birthday but he didn't want to build it. So I was happily given teh task. IIRC there was a windlass I think built into the rotor somehow so you could turn the rotor and lift the capsule.

Good paint, have loads of it but is definitely better for brush painting. I had to go to 60% thinner to get it through detail airbrushes. Have switched to atom since, unless I need a certain colour.

Have a soft spot for this boxing, build it around 1978-1979 and i was very pleased with the result, back then as a teenager. I build it as old 66 and i still think the high wiz schemes of that era is the top. Thanks Matt

Hey Matt, I like the color, looks good and sprays well. Is that the 3rd Gen paint meant for airbrush? I have a color in that line, works ok despite the dropper cap being cracked upon delivery. That is the one weakness of the eye dropper types, I mean all brands.

In all the years of looking at that Sea King box and I never twigged the Sikorsky instead of Westland name !!! I just had no idea it was built under licence. Doh!

The Mosquito is a very nice kit and an easy build. Go for it.

Used these for ages and I brush paint. They are so easy to use.

I agree about these old kits there is just something about the boxes! If you do build it, it has one major error with the upper wings. The engine nacels go to far back and pointed. They should be shorter and rounded. They would need cutting back and re-shaping.
