Yep…other commenters busted you right off. You would think that you would advocate for the front sight that enables your eyes to see it best as fast as possible. That’s EXACTLY what the Big Dot sights are. Maybe your next $1,500 class can pull out a stack of flash cards with bad guys on it to really hone that effective sight picture. Guess what…you can take your front sight off your 17 and still score kill shots at 10 feet. Those classes are really paying off.

I have never heard of any civilian being involved in a handgun fight at distances of 100 yards (also I’m sure there would be other legal ramifications if there was). The XS Big Dot is faster and easier to find. The XS big dot is 6 MOA. A 6 MOA dot is 1.5” at 25 yards and 3” at 50 yards. Unless your groupings are smaller than that, a smaller front sight is not going to help your shooting in anyway. A smaller sight, at the unrealistic self defense distance of 100 yards, in theory is more accurate because you can see more of the target. However, I would argue acquiring the sight picture takes longer because the sight is smaller. Furthermore even though the big dot would cover a larger portion of the target, it would still provide a clear aiming point and quick target acquisition. Again, unless your groupings at that distance are less than 6” (6MOA) you are not going to be “handcuffed” by the big dot sight.

I found out the hard way that they will NOT accept anything except that LTC-104 for proof of training. I have a Ohio peace officer training certificate AND a 12 hour basic pistol training certificate from a NRA class I took. Even though I had proof of way more training than the state requires they wouldn't accept any of that. So I had to pay yet again to take another class and another test just so it was on the LTC-104 document. A completely and utterly silly process in TX considering Texas is now a constitutional conceal carry state. (2024)

Might be a family thing with meniscus and ACL/MCL (we’re also Summers 🤣) myself, daughter twice, dad and both uncles all have had this injury. Finally at 58 I’m going to have my left knee replaced next month, I organically injured it during PT for a broken neck, I had to fight insurance (Labor & Industry plus a court case) for 3.5 yrs to finally get mine fixed, but by then meniscus (bucket handle tear anteriorly flipped) and both tendons were shredded and according to doctors I was still too young (42yrs at that time) to have complete replacement surgery! 🤞God Speed 🙏on your recovery and glad to see you’re hitting it hard!! ✊
