Experiments with the Lewitt LCT 640 TS
Переглядів 5532 роки тому
A few tests using the Lewitt LCT 640 TS www.lewitt-audio.com/microphones/lct-recording/lct-640-ts - a microphone that has a dual capsule output to facilitate modifications of the polar pattern after the recording has been made. As well as modifying the directionality of pick up, it can be heard and seen in the spectrum how the proximity effect (low frequency emphasis) varies according to the po...
Telephone Mic

Both mouthpiece and earpiece can be used as microphones via separate XLRs. Care was taken not to damage the outer structure of the phone which dates from 1967. Mouthpiece requires phantom power, the earpiece (speaker) does not. The circuit for powering the mouthpiece was taken from here: www.pro-tools-expert.com/production-expert-1/use-an-old-phone-handset-to-produce-a-lo-fi-mic The mouthpiece ...

Testing the polar patterns of an AKG C414 XLS and then a Rode NTG2 shotgun mic. White noise is played through a bluetooth speaker while it is rotated around the microphone on a turntable. Voxengo SPAN (free) used for analysis: www.voxengo.com/product/span/features/ The off-axis colouration expected from a large diaphragm microphone is audible and observable on the spectrogram. Chopin's Revolutionary Étude on a Broken Piano
Переглядів 2972 роки тому
An unloved, untuned piano was sampled note by note. These individual notes were reassembled as a software sampler using Csound and Cabbage and used to create a performance of Frédéric Chopin's Étude Op. 10, No. 12, 'Revolutionary' Étude. No notes were even vaguely in tune, some notes played what resembled chords and some notes were missing strings entirely so just produced a click as the hammer...

DIY Ambisonic Microphone - use headphones!
what if you used 2 640 microphones to create stereo how would you change their pattern together at the same time? is that an option in software?
A single LCT 640 TS can already produce a stereo signal but I'm guessing you're talking about using two separate mics for ORTF (or other spaced array technique) so that the directivity of the mics could be changed in tandem. The outputs of the two microphones would be recorded onto two parallel stereo tracks onto each of which the Lewitt plugin could be loaded. You could remote control the polar pattern sliders on both instances of the plugin by linking both to the same hardware surface control to ensure that they move in tandem. Automation data could also be copied and pasted between the two tracks to ensure coherence in the plugins.
@@iaininberlin yes exactly I was referring to like maybe recording ambiences outside and ortf or sound effects all that kind of stuff
Task by Patricia Taxxon if it was good:
im sorry but the pdf is down, amazing video tho
Sounds like beatboxing without rhythm.
Sounds like the start of an Amon Tobin song
what components are needed
Did you have to do any post processing?
No post processing!
Brillant!
Any here tried using a 2N3904 in that circuit?
Thanks for posting the link to the ref!
If you want to buy a LOM Geophone but it´s always sold out. There is a new Manufacturer in Town that makes almost exactly the same Geofon. I will soon Review it on my Channel.
Ooo, you should make sample packs with this thing
I cant wait to buy one..... could be a long wait though
What's the software you are using ?
Just Lewitt's own Polariser plugin within Reaper. I also used Voxengo's SPAN plugin as the spectral analyser. The plugins are free.
what is yves transistor on the left side? amplifier?
It's a voltage regulator to convert 9V from the battery to 5V needed by the chip.
Bro i made bc 547 lowpass filter
Nice!
Sounds like death??!!!!!!!!
nice
Nice. Love the gate at the beginning and the metal fence. I got my first Geofon a few weeks back and it's great fun. Thanks.
The stories that poor piano might tell…!!
i just wanted to see if any other sound designers had the same idea
Hi Iain, thanks for sharing this, I've just acquired a Zoom F6 and am really interested in Ambisonics for Nature filming ... was looking at the RØDE' NT-SF1 but I don't have the money at the moment, this looks great to try out.
Very interesting setup and sounds pretty cool. Thanks man.
Really nice! Now can we have this done in Csound please?
Makes complete sense to me! Defo oscillating a bit.

Lovely video with fantastic soundscape
Nice. I played about with this circuit a while back. Interesting to experiment with different component values. I recall adding a voltage regulator as it was too unpredictable on a 12 Volt supply
Hello. can I have a diagram?
There's a link to the schematic in the description. I'm not the author of the circuit by the way!
Exciting
amazing, it needs to be a dual potentiometer?
Each side of the dual potentiometer controls a 6 dB/oct filter which connected in series produces the 12 dB/oct filter. I think that's how it works!
You could probably get away with just a single pot and replace the other variable resistor with a fixed one. It would no longer be 12db.per octave and the range of the cut off frequency would probably be less.
Seems like a perfect match!
