One of our primary goals when starting the Electronic Cafe was to bring fab new music and artists to people’s attention - and this this is one - the amazingly talented synth wizard Finlay Shakespeare who speaks to us about all thing’s music and his new album “Directions Out of Town” out now - enjoy. Tell us what you think
Yep, at 3 years old Fin would load the JMJ CD into the player on his own. Trying to find someone to teach him to play piano/keyboard at an early age was hard. Most thought it was a "phase" he was going through. We met some interesting people that had an impact on Fin's early musical education.
Amazing interview! When he's talking about his influences, I keyed in so much. "What is this?" That's exactly how I felt when I discovered electronic music in 1980. Buying records with no idea what I was going to hear was magic. Even now, my X feed, Soundcloud follows, and bandcamp constantly inundate me with stuff that boggles my mind. Yes, everything is too accessible so you really have to pay attention to find the gems amongst the stones. But the discovery is still there after all these decades.
Massively pleased to see Finlay on this. I’ve got some of the Serge style kit he designed and his releases. It’s so refreshing to his overall sound today. You won’t get an argument from me about Travelogue and for that reason alone you know he is a top man
Hi chaps, not my kind of music, it reminds me of Thomas Dolby. Again, not something I would listen to, but I find it really interesting.. These people are genuinely inspiring. We need more of them.. good luck to this gentleman I wish him all the very best…!!!
