Only time Florida was ranked #1 pre-Spurrier
Mark Jones and Tim Brant with the call on ABC
I’m a Dawg but I met Kerwin Bell once playing softball in Lake City. He was a good guy.
History repeats itself with this year’s Military Bowl. ECU and NCSU should play every year or at least every other year.
Two of the greatest CFB coaches ever were coordinators on opposite sidelines: Michigan State DC Nick Saban vs. Iowa OC Bill Snyder
Fantastic
Thanks for being on channel 9 in Oklahoma its nice to see kwtv .
Thanks for posting
Oklahoma ruled College Football for a few years here
2024 checkin to honor the great Keith Jackson. ESPN and ABC can re-learn the art of calling a college football game. No one accepted the torch.
I was a senior in high school that year. You could tell OU's dominance was coming to an end. All the drama that happened was a shame for the Sooners. But Barry had a hell of a run at OU.
Just a few minutes after the end of this game, the great Bill McCartney would announce retirement. This was a bitter sweet day indeed.
Penn State completely shut the bed after that MN game
I miss the pre nill days were guys were happy to get tution books a a dorm and meal money
It was a transitional year for ucla in 1989😊
I remember this one as a kid. Huge let down compared to the year before.
I was a redskin ticket holder and got a ticket 2 rows in front of the usc band and had the time of my life..i glanced quickly over the video and never any closeups of the banc which was constantly playing tbe usc fight song..still ringing in my ears!!!!!
I didn't know Pete Van Buren called any college football.
Jefferson Pilot Sports SEC Football on a Local NBC affiliate in Birmingham, Alabama
Horrible USC team...hackett was a good o coordinator but lousey head coach...his teams were penalized more than any other usc squad ever. He did have some talent but didnt ever seen to use it .... thankfully he was fired and Pete Carroll walked in and won 2 and almost 5 titles ...ranked #2 3 times..#1 twice....fsu just smoked SC this game ... embarrassing...many of us long time Trojan fans kinda expected it...SC did better tha next season..stil lost by 7.i recall....RJ soward was a bust and after his first season...necer was all that great.
Notice that the word DEMOCRACY is nowhere in the Pledge of Allegiance.
This was a foretelling of what Miami would do to Nebraska in the orange bowl. Just run blitz that offense. Miami actually had an offensive as Oklahoma State wins this game easily with any kind of offense
One of the most bizarre calls I’ve ever seen was near the end of this game. Score was 20-14 and Illinois kicked off. IU was called for clipping on the kickoff and the refs made it 1st and 25! WHAT?! That gave the game to Illinois. Still scratching my head over that one.
@ 35:00... Even w/out DuPree, I still would have went for it on 4th Down
Good football asyou see it tonight.yesteryear.
Watching this just makes me more aggravated at the current state of SC under Lincoln Riley…..sigh
I was there - what a great day for SJS
Announcers thought OSU outplayed them? Would have been a beatdown if they didn't keep fumbling in the Red zone. N had over 100yd offense advantage
Great video. I remember that day as though it were yesterday
Greg Schiano 1st year at RU and one of great coaches that stepped in Piscataway. Army at Rutgers 7:00 PM ESPN+Plus 😊. Rutgers gets its 1st win of the season.
Yooo! I’m watching this in Ah!
Let’s ask this for a what if What if Sandusky went to jail in 99? Well Joe Pa’s legacy will still be in tact for one 2) Penn St would most likely still be the un touchable college in the east coast. 3) Perhaps Paterno’s child would be head coach right now.
Or what if they both weren’t framed
@ framed huh lol okay keep telling yourself that.
I was in college in Florida watching that game from a Burger King of all places. I was wearing a Husky shirt & hat. This got some good-natured snarky comments thrown my way in the first half, but some dirty looks and snarky comments the entire 2nd half! It was a great feeling to end that home winning streak. Washington vs Miami had the potential to be a great rivalry. Would've been great to see the schools get together and agree to a number of years of home and away games. Oh well, what could've been...
I was at this game and ran onto the field after the game! We were very excited and a little drunk 😂
Bowden always got the best of Osborne. However, Bowden couldn't beat Switzer.
This game almost wasn't televised because in the crazy wild-west world of 1984 college football TV--just a few months after the Supreme Court struck down the NCAA's monopoly over TV rights--no one actually had a clue who would own the rights to a game between a team from the CFA (who had a contract with ABC) and a team from the Big 10/Pac-10 (who had a contract with CBS). CBS had to file an injunction against the CFA and it was ruled at the eleventh hour that whoever held the rights to the home team had the rights to broadcast a game, whether the opponent was part of the TV contract or not.
I know it's the Saints home field, but why does the Syracuse end zone say Saints when the Auburn end zone says AUBURN ?
On it!
I remember this game well. I was a junior in high school in North Jersey and had just flown to Columbus Ohio earlier that summer for a martial arts tournament. Loaded up on Ohio State gear. Great game for the Buckeyes
this video just made my day. I'm #2 on Duke. Thank you for sharing this.
Man, I was at UCLA at that time. We partied hard at the dorms that night!
Georgia finished 10-1-1, beating then-undefeated and No. 2 Texas 10-9 in the Cotton Bowl.
Man do I miss the Bowden era when FSU was that good..
It’s 2024, and Coach Pat Jones still to this day says, “…by and large…”. He has coined those three words. Those words belong to him.
I was there. The celebration on the field after the W was SURREAL!!
1983 the officials were so bad! And to think how we complain about them now.😂
Happy Halloween 🎃 2024 usc when they had defense! Willie and Jason
If anyone should have got the NCAA death penalty back in the day…. It was Oklahoma
5"9 210 playing DT😂😂 geees
