    I am here trying to learn all I can about my White treadle. It is the same as yours, the plate has the very same patent dating on it. The difference is the cabinet. Your cabinet is SO beautiful! My iron lady came in the craftsmen case and I love it! These old gals are so amazing and I'm thrilled that I found one. Do you have an update video on this machine?

    I understand that hand sanitizer makes a good windshield/windscreen cleaner when you have difficult things to remove like tree sap. I haven't tried that yet, but it does make sense. I am impressed that the nail polish remover does not harm the markings that are built into the ruler, or make the surface of the ruler "cloudy." Thanks for the tip!

    • @werquilters
      @werquilters День тому

      I will share that hand sanitizer tip with my husband. Our vehicles are always parked under trees. Finger nail polish remover takes sharpie off of lots of surfaces. It does not usually damage plastic like oops can. My ruler had all of the measuring lines on the bottom. It will remove painted on lines if applied directly. I have used it on white boards, too, but I always follow up with plain water to get rid of residue. Thank you for sharing!

    Ok I'm chuckling at how opportunity is spelled on the Pinterest sign....funny how our brains allow us to see past some mistakes...or was it intentional to solidify their point? 👏 I'm going to take it that's why when I gift a quilt the recipient sees past my imperfections 🤓 thanks for another great video!

    I bought the large drunkard's path templates and am going to make a Christmas quilt soon with it. I keep wishing that I had the smaller one because I seem to find more patterns for the smaller size. But with just find contentment with the larger size and figure out my own things to do with it. What a great present all those parts where, and your thrift store finds were great. Love those blocks you got. I want to thank you for all your hard work learning how to put the links into the notes. I am not the best with computers so do appreciate having them. Have a wonderful weekend! See you on Monday!

      I probably should buy a set of drunkard's path templates, but keep putting it off. I think that a Christmas quilt will look great in large blocks made with your templates...there are so many great settings! I am going to miss our MI thrift stores when we go back to WV...none of the ones we go to there have such great fabric or craft stuff. It was a challenge to figure out how to put the patterns in the notes, but I googled and read articles and watch some UA-cam videos and figured it out. I took notes on cards so I can do that trick more than once. Thank you for appreciating my hard work! See you on Monday!

    Hi Lorrie! Is that the back of my RV I see thru the window? I'm kidding of course. Home now from the Oregon coast. Always fun to buy used quilting books. What a treasure from your friend! All sorts of nifty sewing machine parts! You are quite gifted to be mechanically inclined with sewing machine repair. I thought about it with my Singer Futura, but decided to just give it away for parts to the sewing machine repair guy. Along with a dozen or so of those plastic bobbins you showed us. Dan's project looks fabulous! How does he stretch it and frame it? I've wrapped mine around cardboard, use tape, and frame it. Not the best way, I'm sure. There's a country cooking restaurant I wanted to stop at for breakfast on the way home just east of Tillamook. Never been. Sign on the door said they were closed today due to equipment malfunction. I had a hankering for eggs, bacon and pancakes. Stopped an hour later at a service station for coffee and danish. I need to set up my sewing machine again now. Thank you for working on the problem with the PDF. The campground was nice. Could hear, see and smell the ocean. Please take care. Here's my blabfest! Marion

    • @werquilters
      @werquilters День тому

      I love those old books! When I have a broken machine, I figure I can't make it more broken by trying to fix it...I am careful not to shock myself! Dan says Thank you. Framing his work is a joint effort. We usually use a board with a sticky backing that we cut to fit the frame we are using. Sometimes I add cloth borders with iron on stuff...and lace...and beads, etc. He likes my creative touches, so that makes me happy. It is scary when a restaurant is closed because of an "equipment malfunction"...stove won't light? coffee pot broken? cook just needs a day off? Danish and coffee sounds like a delightful alternative. An ocean view is ALWAYS nice! Do you take the kitties with you? Have fun resetting your sewing room! See you on Monday!

    About the Drunkard's Path quilt block. There was an episode of Sewing with Nancy several years ago where the guest, Elaine Waldschmidt, made the blocks by appliqueing a circle on a square and then cutting the square into 4 equal parts. I believe she used a dinner plate to trace the circle, and the differential between the square size and the plate size was 2 inches. I like this better and it does work than sewing the block the traditional way.

    • @werquilters
      @werquilters День тому

      I have seen that method before...I even bought a ruler that you can use to cut various sized circles. I like the dinner plate idea better! (I have never used the ruler, but I have used plates!) You have inspired me to discuss this at a much later date...when I get to it on the A Study in Scarlet quilt. Thank you for the inspiration in advance! (Just in case I forget to say so five or six months from now when I make that block!) Thank you for sharing!

    I am very grateful for the informative tutorials you provide. Have you ever quilted a 'summer' quilt on your longarm? That is a quilt with only (say) a sheet or lightweight fabric as a batting? What issues would one expect to have if attempting to longarm quilt it themselves? Thank you very much for sharing.

    I love Americana quilts!! I made one for my friend from Mexico right before her back surgery. She thought she was going to die because the surgery was to fix the botched previous surgery where she did almost die. So I used a muted Americana color theme and then I sent for a comforter with the Mexican flag and cut it up, sewed on borders and used it for the back. That way she could have her country in which she is a citizen visible on the front, but Mexico close to her heart on the back!! She loved it!! And....she did not die.

    Hi Lorrie! Oh that book! My eyes popped out and I just want to curl up and look at all those photos! So many to try. Did you loop the thread over the needle only one direction or alternate? It looked like you went over from the right and another stitch from the left when stitching the leaves. Today was bind a quilt day. Back to front yesterday. I'm getting better, go real slow and use walking foot. Have you ever used a screw in, adjustable seam guide? I might buy one for more accuracy. The binding I put on was from the quilt guild. Black and white swirlies. My eyes were having issues with it. Thank you for the embroidery lesson. What is your husband stitching lately? Take it easy. Marion

      That book is one of those great thrift finds! I did alternate loops. The directions didn’t specify and the example in the picture was too little to tell. I need to do bindings on 2 small quilts today. I do back to front machine binding on “everyday “ quilts. I have used a screw in seam guide and a magnetic one, too. They are both okay, but like all skills take practice. I haven’t found a good patience level with a walking foot yet. I will send you a picture of Dan’s latest kit. He found it at thrift store . Hope you are having a great week.

    Yes, I do mark up my rulers with painter tape, especially when patterns call for weird sizes like 7/8 etc. I was gifted about 5 yards of Christmas design (snowman/Santa pillows), I knew I would never make/use them, so I cut every bit I could into usable sizes. Amazing how much usable material I ended up with. But I never thought about the words, I won't the next time...lol So proud of you Lorrie for finishing that last block and now being ready to sew your quilt together. So, looking forward to the book sew along. Haven't had a chance to start on the Patriotic blocks, was asked to make an easy shawl for my aunt who is going to be 99 next month to put around her shoulders, so of course that came first. Then my mother-in-law informed us that they will be her this Saturday instead of the 7th, which is okay, but wasn't ready for company, so been busy doing some housework. Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday!

      I am glad to hear that other people add markings to rulers, too. I will confess that sometimes I use sharpie if it is a line I will use a lot 😁. I try to work on getting the sew along ready a little each day…even though a trip to WV is cutting into my sewing time. Have a nice visit with your in-laws. Your aunt will love her shawl…99 is impressive! Hope you had a great weekend! See you next week!

    After being glued to the weather channel for the past few days, it is so lovely to watch you talk about every day projects. My daughter and her husband were in Florida and I have been watching her kids for five days. Today I am sick!!! Thanks for the video and the shorts...very soothing for my rattled mind!!

      @@werquilters did you get any residue? Plus, I am having issues with my email. The last ones haven't gone through with pictures. I'll have my kids check out the problem so I can show you my recent projects. Thanks for all you do for your UA-cam friends!!!

      Here in WV, it has been raining & gray since Monday. We are not getting flooding where we are…that is much further south. I hope your email starts cooperating…I love to see your projects! See you tomorrow!

    There's no place like Gnome! Very fun! I like gnomes. Don't worry, I don't have a garden full of them. Just one. The vest patterns are nifty. I made two from those panels for my mother back in the 90's. Halloween and a winter theme. The winter theme came with a doll size one also, which I made for one of my dolls. I always enjoy seeing what Diana and other quilters have made. I cleaned up (sort of) my cutting table of scraps. Then worked on a round robin block. I'll send a photo this week. I use blue painter's tape to mark areas on one ruler. Stay away from the hurricane! Take care Lorrie. Blabfest Friday! Yay, Blabfest Friday! Marion

      My friend just gave me some gnomes when we met her for lunch on Friday! Now I have two! That same friend loved to make vests and handkerchief collars in the 90’s. She had them for all kinds of holidays. Congratulations on getting some scraps cut. Every project I do seems to multiply the scrap piles! Scraps are worse than rabbits! My grandparents raised rabbits so I know that is true! I used to run a round robin in my yahoo group…we had great fun with those! I need to share some of those blocks on a Friday Blabfest. I love seeing your pictures! You have a great sense of color! See you on Monday!

    Beautiful work Diana. I love how neatly you did all that handwork. I have a quilt that is close to having it's topper finished. I bought two vest patterns at the thrift store to put with stash fabric to make up the back for it. I love the flowers and design in the vest shown. I have the words from other such fabric to be used in string blocks. =] Looking forward to the Sherlock Holmes project. Mr. and me love to watch the Jeremy Bret series on DVD.

      Diana really did a beautiful job on that handwork! I am glad to know that I am not the only one that gets use out of panels and pieces like those vests! A yard of usable fabric for a dollar…it is hard to beat that! Glad to hear that you use the word parts too…☺️ I am working on the audio part of Sherlock this morning…today’s challenge was editing out a sneeze! I am looking forward to sharing my quilt, etc. Have a great weekend!

    What a cool 9 patch. Thanks for giving such detailed instructions and encouragement on making these blocks. Once a person learns to make those fancy blocks as I am colling them the possibilities in other quilts will be endless. See you on Friday!

    P.P.S. About 30 plus years ago, I crocheted about 4 yards of ivory lace to sew onto the hem around my wedding dress. The wedding and the dress never happened, but I still have the lace. Know where it could go to a good home? It lays wrapped up in a drawer to be protected from dust. Marion😏

  • @marionbarber984
    @marionbarber984 20 днів тому

    Oh, I've got a great idea for doilies I said to myself a few years ago. I still have the book with pattern in it for sewing doilies to a quilt block. Thank goodness I keep the doilies in a drawer. Otherwise they'd get too dusty waiting for me to use. I also have pretty doilies with designs of roses attached. Oh my! I can use those for my senorita pattern for her dress, along with the pretty handkerchiefs I've bought to use as a dress. Embroidery is also involved. Antique stores have lots of these fancies! Did you know, that the more embellishments you have saved over the years, the less chance they have of being used? With this tutorial Lorrie, I may bring them out of the drawer again! By the way, when I type in doilies, the autocorrect changes the word to "cookies". No problem with making those disappear! Marion

    • @werquilters
      @werquilters 18 днів тому

      Autocorrect sure likes cookies! It doesn’t like doilies! I agree with your theory…the more you have…the less you use! Time to bring them out to play!
