So Microsd in not Universal?
Very helpful, thanks! With the S5 Mk I and Sandisk Extreme / Extreme Pro Sd`s I get 27 pics in buffer after 4 1/2 sec and it clears after a whopping 27 seconds. PNY V90 XCII = 30 pics after 5 sec and the buffer clearing takes 12 sec.🎉 Bought a second V60 card to compliment my PNY. Grüße!
You should also test going back and forth from stills to video.
Can you use cfexpress A? I have two of them from Sony
No, Sony is the only camera manufacturer using CFexpress Type A (at the moment).
Hi, I bought X-T50, newest camera and should i get V60 or V90?
www.memorycard-lab.com/-Cameras/Fujifilm-X-T50 :)
I really don’t know what my SD card I should use for, since it’s a bottleneck when Backuping or +JPG. Overflow is not needed since my CFe is pretty spacious.
Z30 camera does not have a UHS-II card reader socket with 2 rows of contacts which is required to get the full speed of UHS-II cards! Z30 has only one row of contacts good for UHS-I cards! So a UHS-II card behaves like a UHS-I card and sometimes even worse. Use UHS-II cards with cameras that have a UHS-II card slot, for example Nikon Z5! Use fast UHS-I cards for the Z30.
Sure the Z30 doesn't have UHS-II, but you can still use those and profit from the faster read-out speed on your PC or Mac. Especially the cheaper UHS-II V60 cards are great in terms of price/performance in that regard.
Thanks for the vid :) I have limited choices in the amazon in my region, from this ones which would choose? Do you think I can record Raw 6k60 with them? 1. Prograde Gold 4.0 1Tb 2. Lexar 4.0 Silver Series 1TB Thank you
Hello there. Great review! I would like to ask you about the " ProGrade Digital CFexpress B 2.0 Memory Card (Cobalt) 1700" vs " ProGrade Digital CFexpress 4.0 Type B Gold Memory Card ". Which one should I choose? Do you think that the first Memory Card is still enough for 120 frames and also what size do you think it's better for video content and photography in the same time? Thank you.
Cobalt and Gold are different CFx cards for different purposes. The *Cobalt* line is using pSLC NAND Flash (therefore odd capacities like 165 or 325 GB), *Gold* uses normal TLC NAND (256, 512 GB and so on). pSLC is 3x more expensive per GB, because each cell contain 1 instead of 3 bits. But on the other hand much more reliable (p/e cycles) and faster. So if you e.g. shoot 8K RAW video, pSLC is your best bet for uninterrupted videos. For standard video (h.264 or h.265), TLC cards like the Gold series are fine - and much cheaper. Size: Depending on you needs. One will be OK with 64 GB for a day, another may need 4x 2 TB.
@@memory-card Thank you for response. I'm looking the high end choices that my camera gives me just in case. So if want to capture 6K Raw video for 30 minutes i should pick one of the Cobalt line with at least 325gb memory? Where can i check online for the storage of every video mode on my Z6 iii? Theoretically, because if i need to pick a memory card i have to know how much it "costs" every mode i choose. Thank you.
Very interesting explanation. Thanks!!
Its suneast 2tb work on z6iii?
We have no samples from Suneast here, but in theory it should. Everything up to 2 TB is usually fine. 4 TB an beyond can be tricky.
Can i save 4k video in u3 v30 card??
Yeah, but not in the highest framerate. 2160p24/25/30 will work (150-190 Mbit/s).
Thanks for the info!
hello, I'm a hobbyist photographer and barely focus on video. I'm thinking between an A7R3 and LA-EA4, an A6700 and an A7m4. Apparently since I'm focused on wildlife and aviation I would get the A6700 but it's very limited photography wise. Do you actually need a CF Express card for the A6700 to achieve at least lossy raw 11fps? (coming from an A77M2 with 150K+ shutter cycles)
No, you can achieve 11 fps with any memory card and no, the A6700 does not support CFexpress Type A in the first place.
@@memory-card fantastic! Now I just need to know how 1/8000 fully electronic shutter images look like because that's literally the very thing that keeps me up at night whenever I think of getting the A6700 in a year or so
Only 10 fps
"Machine gun shutter." People will be shocked when they hear the sound of my new R7
So you’re installing a cfExpress in slot 1 and sd in slot 2, with raw and jpeg in slot 1, so what are you using slot 2 for?
No, obviously RAW in #1 (CFe) and JPEG in #2 (SD).
have you done a test for the pergear cf express A cards?
Since you can't use those in the Nikon Z6 III, as the camera only supports CFe Type B: No. But we have tested the Pergear in a Sony Alpha 7 IV: www.memorycard-lab.com/-Cameras/Sony-Alpha-7-IV-CFe
thanks mate.
Please Answer my question SD UHS 1 V30......How many shots SD UHS 2 V60......How Many shots SD UHS 2 V90......How many shots until the buffer is full. shooting Uncompressed Raw
V30, V60 and V90 are video speed classes, defining a *minimum* writing speed of 30, 60 or 90 MB/s respectively required for the certification. Just to say V60 card A and B may have way different results, even though both are V60. An example for the A7RV: Both the Lexar 1667x and 1800x are UHS-II V60 cards, but the 1667x is reaching ~110 MB/s during continuous shooting, the 1800x ~180 MB/s. Since the camera starts writing immediately, the "buffer size" (# of shots at full speed) differs. Rule of thumb: 55-65 shots for fast V60 and V90. But lossless compression is recommended anyway :)
Do I have to use one of each or can I use two of each….? Thank you….
Neither nor^^ You don't have to use one SD + one CFexpress, but you can. But it's not a Sony Alpha alike combined slot (Dual CFx A + SD in case of some high-end Sony cameras).
@@memory-card can I use two SD cards at the same time?
No. As written above: one SD + one CFexpress card.
Thanks for this video! Very helpful.
This thing not having a CF express type B slot is just stupid
Yeah, same for the EOS R7.
So I have a 4TB CFExpress type B...Angelbird. It wont work for the GFX100 II?
Uff... Hard to answer. Everything up to 2 TB is usually fine, 4 TB and beyond is not supported by most cameras.
@@memory-card oooo....thank you for the reply
Thanks for the review! Is it possible to write full-size RAW files to an SD card and sRAW to a microSD to compensate its speed limitation?
Hi, can i use v60 xcII sd card for simple 4K not 120p video on a6700 or need to buy v90
That's totally fine :) More information on the website linked in the video description.
Just picked up a z6ii, this was a very informative video, thanks for the help.
Does it not support cfexpress type B cards
No, currently only the X-H2(S) and GFX series.
Is this the bug of firmware? Have you tried the latest version 1.02 ?
Could be both, Firmware or Software. And no, we obviously don't have a storage room with 100+ cameras here^^ So we may test it again in 1-2 years, but a fix is unlikely anyway. Also there's no indication in the changelog.
Is it the same for nikon z6 mark 1??
No, the first Z6 is featuring both: No SD card as well as a much slower CFexpress implementation. But we have tested the Z6 as well: www.memorycard-lab.com/-Cameras/Nikon-Z6
thank you for this video. you just saved me like £50 lol ❤
Thankfully UA-cam recommended some videos that actually tested a CFe cards, unlike your video.
Wie kommt es zu den „Kompatibilitätsproblemen“ mit der 7cii?
Wenn diverse UHS-II SD-Karten nur im UHS-I-Modus laufen, läuft da kameraseitig etwas schief.
for z6ii, lexar 1800x will shoot 4k 30 ?
Yeah, that's totally fine.
I got kioxia sd card v90 it has problem while reading uncompress video formats and h265 video formats and shows playback error . so I need new card v90 also my friend got same error with Kingston v90 sd card. any suggestion for not having playback errors :)
Since when is the Sony a6700 capable of recording uncompressed/RAW-Video (internally)?^^
@@memory-card XAVC S-I Codec is uncompressed easy to use while editing other more compressed and I need to use proxy files and as u know 4K (4:2:2, 10bit) 59.94p (600 Mbps) is really massive files so my v90 card writes it but playback issues when reading...
No, uncompressed 4K 10 bit with 60p would require ~14,930 Mbps (3,840 px * 2,160 px * 3 color channels * 10 bit color depth * 60 fps) or roughly 2 GB/s. XAVC S-I is just an all I-frame encoding - so pretty basic H.265 or H.264, just without P- and B-frames. Since most modern PC and Mac have pretty decent HW decoding, it's just wasted HDD space for 99 % of all use cases. Anyway: The playback issue is weird, since cards are usually always faster in read-mode. But could also be a problem with the Sony Firmware. Maybe there is an FW update available?
Hello. Did you get any heat because of the SD cards?
Not really. The power consumption of UHS-I/II SD cards is usually between 1-2 W during read/write operation and 0.x mW in idle. Not enough to make it difficult.
@@memory-card thnaks. I have some issues with delkin sd cards v60 uhs-ıı
The 18-35 f1.8 would be PHENOMENAL but they have to keep it small. The DSLR 18-35 f1.8 was a huge lens. It needs to be compact to match the smaller APSC bodies from sony and fuji. Hell I would take 18-35 f2.0 instead if it meant size reduction. Either way, a lens like this that is smaller than the fuji 16-55 f2.8 zoom would be a game changer and sell like hot cakes. Make it kit lens size and it will be constantly out of stock.
Does Sony a7c is support CFexpress?
No, neither the A7C II nor the A7CR have a CFexpress Type A slot.
warum geht die 32gb sandisk v90 nicht? geht das erst ab 128gb? sie wird nicht als v90 erkannt.
Was heißt "geht nicht" konkret? Fotografieren solltest Du ohne Probleme können. Filmen nicht, da Sony auf den XAVC-S-Container setzt, der Dateien größer 4 GB produziert und das geht nur mit SDXC-Speicherkarten (exFAT-Dateisystem).
Can I use a basic transcend SD/hc for photos ?
Sure you can. But depending on your camera settings, the actual speed of the card and how many pictures you take in a row, it may take minutes to safe everything.
@@memory-card appreciate this, I figured it out on my a6700 when I shot continuously and it spent 10secs writing photos lol
@@memory-card 256gb v90 on the way lol got a good deal on Amazon for $159 usd
Definitely a huge difference! Though I'd say you also have great color grading skills. I am only worried because I read reviews that this camera has some problems, but it's great that you can use fantastic Leica lenses
Gotta love the buffer on the old tanks, D4, D5 and D6 DSLRs. being able to shoot 200 shots with no buffer slowing. Still love my cameras, but moved on to mirrorless now. Z9 is a beast, Z8 just got it yesterday as a backup. , Waiting for the weekend to go shoot some bald eagles.
Well, a Nikon D6 has 21 MP and can shoot 14.5 fps and is also using fast CFexpress cards, so the actual buffer isn't that big either^^ A 45 MP Nikon Z 8 with up to 30 FPS RAW or 60 FPS JPEG has a larger buffer, just to achieve a similar number of frames :)
Would have appreciated seeing the actual buffer clear time for the S5II in addition to the (measured? computed? estimated?) write speed in the chart. Also as best as I can tell the chart of SD card performance results for the S5II and the chart of results for the G9II on your website are identical - did you really test the two cameras independently or simply assume uniform behavior between the two?
1.) The write speed is measured (bytes written divided by the time the indicator was active). 2.) We are transparent about that fact. You'll find the explanation at the bottom of the G9 II table: *Please note:* _The results above were measured using a Panasonic Lumix S5 II. Based on a 6-point random examination, measured values are applicable to the Panasonic Lumix G9 II as well. The deviation between both cameras is below ±1 percent._ It is common practice for camera manufacturers to use the same type of image processor, image sensor or in this case memory card controller for various cameras. Sometimes the controller is within the image processor. For example, Sony used the same (very slow) controller across almost a dozen early Alpha 7 and Alpha 6x00 cameras. So we do not "assume" uniform behavior, but measure a reasonable sample size (in this case 6 out of 41 cards, so ~14 %), including the fastest card and across various (interface) speeds such as UHS-II V90, UHS-II V60 and UHS-I.
Excellent testing and info. 😎
Cfexpress for nikon zf ??
Since there's no CFexpress Card Slot... Nope
Just get to the fucking point
Thanks great video! I have a question. What is the max write speed the x100vi can achieve? I see UHS-I Cards that have 90mb/s and ones that have 200mb/s Thanks!
Feel free to use our test results as a reference: vturl.de/g/27d :) But as also mentioned in the video: A good UHS-I card ist good enough in terms of write speed.
What about the size limit? Is the lexar 1 tb uhs 1 supported?
We do not have an 1 TB card here (512 GB is the current maximum). But technically there is no reason why not. The X100VI supports the SDXC standard, therefore anything within SDXC shall be compatible (from 64 GB to 2 TB).
Great video. A shame the x100vi wasn’t upgraded to uhs-ii but I still love the camera and for my uses it’s fast enough.
Yeah, it's probably fast enough for 95% of use cases. It would have been great, if you copy the files directly from the camera via USB-C though.
Great content! I hope you get that 1k sub! Recently decided on an xT5 instead of the new x100vi thats coming out because of the interchangeable lense. I am new to camera’s and its my very first expensive camera (expensive for me) so thank you for this!!
its a flagship camera so its expensive for everyone lol
