I Was Falsely Deactivated on Lyft? My Surprising Take
I encounter a major setback when my Lyft account is temporarily suspended due to an alleged DUI report claiming my vehicle smelled of alcohol. The video details my process of responding to the report, understanding Lyft's community guidelines, and voicing my frustrations on social media. As I strive to resolve the issue and meet my rideshare challenge bonus, I discuss the broader implications of false accusations for drivers and share my personal reflections on trust and safety in rideshare driving. Ultimately, my account gets reactivated, but the incident leaves me with mixed feelings about Lyft's policies and the impact of passenger feedback.

Tipping Culture in America: Answering the Top 10 Complaints
3:57 so you were being a nice guy by not charging the passenger with a car seat so they can get an order driver that may have a car seat which none do. Meaning you let a parent endanger their child life by being nice instead of letting them know this passenger does not have a car seat. 😮
When I canceled I selected no car seat as the reason. Is there something else I should’ve done?
One of the many reasons I stopped driving for lyft is the overall caliber of the passengers. Sad, but that was my experience. That, combined with the low fares constantly pinging me was too much and I just stopped turning it on.
Total bullshit Always listening to trash riders.
I remember you,you are pigeon who does the four dollars rides.
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! I have a quick question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
Drivers should be able to sue for false accusations.
Hey cool aid. Where have you been? Watch the professor. So now you feel jaded. Your account should have never been put on hold.
I love the Professor! ❤️
Hi Levi. This happened to me about a year ago. I had the exact same feelings. It took over 5 days to get put back online. It was completely fabricated. It was not pleasant. Like you pride myself on great customer service and clean car. Now every time someone who smells of alcohol or cannabis I go “here it comes again”. Sort of numb to it now but took a long time for those feelings to go away!
I felt like it was going to happen 2 or 3 times today. 😔
My brother what I'm saying is, you need to have a dash cam if you don't. Get into the black and black SUV you will not get any kind of charges like that unless you really do something wrong. It's probably one of those broke kids that you took they probably can't afford the New Year's Eve prices
Good advice. I have a dash cam but our city doesn't have black or even premier rides. 😔
Just buy one bro, get it used from Tesla
Agreed. Bought one.
How the hell are gig workers that barely make ends meet buy 10 plus autonomous cars to have a fleet on one of these companies lol
Maybe not 10 cars at a time. Maybe working with investors?
riders are not your friends. I keep talking to them at a minimum and I don't drive after 12:00am period.
99 of 100 are. But that one....😡
Bro...this happened to me on NYE morning with Uber. I immediately responded and followed up with a phone call to support. I was informed that support couldn't help me with this and that I would need to wait for the safety team to finish their "investigation". TOTAL BS! They reactivated my account this morning Dec 2. Making me miss the BIGGEST driving day for us drivers. I went out anyway and got mine on NYE driving for Lyft. Uber will not give me any info on this situation. I am a Platnium driver and have 7 yrs driving for Uber....I am a 5-star driver as well. Need I add that I don't even drink or use substances??? Yessssss...it feels very much a set up to get drivers off the road for BS! I sincerely hope KARMA gets the rider that needed a free ride. I am thinking about what I am going to do legally for this.
It's so frustrating and we don't deserve to be treated like this.✊🏻
That's a terrible video to put on the internet, it's going to give vindictive people ideas a lot of hurt other drivers
I mean... like... you don't think the people that do this already know?
Car smells like alcohol is because the customer was the ones drunk and needed a sober person to drive them home. Why Lyft automatically assume it's the driver driving under influence of alcohol ?! It be better to have a hobby or another stream of income just incase you cannot rely on Lyft for a stable permanent income; especially since they can deactivate you at their convenience anytime they want.
I agree. Let's say I was really drunk. Maybe Lyft should call the police. 😂
They have to investigate--insurance, law suits. It's the way they handle complaints similar to the Spanish Inquisition. Specific conduct causing complaint is not disclosed. So, how do u reply. The constant deactivation threats and grossly stupid rating system make rideshare a continuing bummer. If all one drives is college kids, rich people and tourists, u have ,wrote idea what the rest of us go through.
The Spanish Inquisition. 😂
That's why you should know your accuser!
College kids that don't want to pay a $100 surge price when it's busy. Look at the rides you did for a group of 3 or 4 frat bros. That's been my experience with these issues. I'd take them to small claims court to make them divulge the pax name that complained, then I would sue that ass for causing you fiduciary harm.
Who knows? 😔
Levi. Sounds like you could have written their guidelines. How frustrating!
So frustrating. ❤️
I used to be a platinum uber driver until this happened to me. I haven’t been the same driver for them since. I think we drive in the same market and my experience is that Lyft is much much better to deal with lately so that’s almost exclusively what I do now.
Lyft is telling you bow down to them once in a while
Sounds like it. 😂
New Year New Career Stop Driving
Would it be useful to take a urine/blood test for alcohol as soon as you get notified from Uber or Lyft? And send them the results ?
Who knows. The good news Lyft quickly responded and got me back on the road in a few hours.
Uber and Lyft are MAFIA!!!!!
😂
No car seat should not impact your cancellation rate like Uber. Also, what market are you in ?
Syracuse New york
Hay Levi - Nice you joined the club - I just past 35000 Rides/Trips here in Minnesota - We are great drivers so when the first time it happens are egos are definitely hurt especially when it come from a safety crew member or even A.I that does not know us - then we go through the same stages you're going through now - The first time this happened to me with Uber I actually got paid $100 dollars for two days of lost time for a complaint of marijuana smell - What I learned is write back right away reminding the person how many Rides I have given and never drink or do any kind drugs while driving ( I am a safe driver ) - Then just to pass all the stages just remind myself I am Great driver just moving on - You are a Great driver and that's all the people know - Cheers
How did u get paid $100 for the 2 days of lost wages? Uber just did this to me for NYE! TOTAL BS!
35k rides ? Omg 😳
35,000 rides is insane!🤯
I'm super sorry this happened to you too.😡
@@saraerobins2327 When I got deactivated and found out that it was because of Marijuana smell I wrote back right away told them three riders all had smelled like it when entering my car I gave over 20 rides that day and then as I said look at all the rides I have given , this really hurts you would treat me this way -- I did not expect $100 but got apology and notice that they put $100 into my Uber Pro Account - Maybe they heard me just switch to Lyft and some of the Nice words I was yelling out ( They to do listen in ) - But I open every window after every rider now that smell of Drugs or Alcohol even in the Cold winter - Getting deactivated Just sucks.
I was deactivated on Uber for 2 days because a white male came to my car and he was smoking and I told him that secondhand smoke makes me sick and I canceled his ride. About 2 Days later I got an email from Uber claiming they were investigating a discrimination claim. At first I thought how could a discriminate against the white male when I am also a white male and I don't discriminate against anyone. I came to find out that the guy said I rejected him because he had a service animal. There was no service animal. He was just pissed off that I would not allow him to exhale his second hand smoke in the my car. Now when I reject a ride I send them a text message how about the reason I canceled the ride before I do the cancellation so that the rideshare company has a record of the reason. Also if the person seems disgruntled or angry or disrespectful I put those reasons in the text message. I also call Uber or Lyft and tell them my concerns first. That way if a disrespectful or unruly passenger files a false complaint, at least my details got their first. If a passenger is disrespectful I also asked to never be paired up with them again. When you cancel a ride, you can't rate them. The guy who I canceled on because he was smoking started calling me names and hit the side of my car. Because I didn't report him immediately, he's stole 2 days of driving from me before I could get reactivated. I had to drive extra hours for the next several days to avoid losing a $210 bonus for the month (the EV bonus for 200 rides). I had already driven 180 rides that month. When passengers like this tell lies, I think that they should be penalized and deactivated.
Good points!
I try to keep smokers far away from my car too. 👍🏻
I used to cancel when I didn't have a car seat, but invested in a car seat so I don't have to do that. One time I drove about 12 minutes to the pickup and when I got there, it was two grandparents who had three small children. The trip was going to go for about 15 minutes on highways and busy roads. I did not have enough car seats so I declined the ride and then I waited 5 minutes in the parking lot before canceling the ride so I would get paid for the long trip to get there.
Terrible idea buying/providing car seat. Not only are you encouraging riders not to take responsibility for their children but also opening yourself up for liability if you get into an accident. Did you install the seat yourself? Boom-liable. Is the seat you purchased defective or inadequate? Boom-liable. There goes your house, income and life in wrongful death suit. Not worth it on cheap pay outs. Don’t risk it. No car seat, no ride and no comprises.
And you store it in your trunk?😳
@I used to be uber family and I used to store in trunk. They quietly discontinued it a few weeks ago without saying anything. So I keep my booster in my trunk. I ask if they need it, and let the parents take it under their own usage.
I wish car share companies did not force the driver to wait up to 7 minutes to get paid when somebody doesn't have a car seat. Typically when you cancel on the rider for not having a car seat, they will immediately request another driver and keep requesting drivers until they find one who will take their child without a car seat. This wastes the time of many drivers without any penalty to the passenger. If we could cancel immediately and the customer would have to pay for wasting the driver's time to pick them up, this would incentivize passengers to bring car seats to protect their child. Perhaps after a driver cancels on someone without a car seat, the rideshare app should ask the passenger if they have a small child and have they gone and gotten their car seat and if the answer is no the passenger should be told they cannot request a ride with a child and no car seat. Allowing drivers to immediately cancel on passengers who do not have car seats would make it more likely that passengers would bring car seats.
I agree, they should implement something to prevent this. 👍🏻
I carry a child car seat in the front trunk of my model Y. That way I don't have to decline rides. They also make inflatable child car seats that take up very little room and almost any car has room for an inflatable seat. I use the regular car seat as the primary car seat. I use an inflatable car seat if they have a second child. I wish that the rideshare companies offered a way for passengers to request drivers who have car seats and offer that as an option and pay the driver a little more for providing a car seat. Those car seats don't cost much. You can also find used car seats for free or practically nothing. If you get a used car seat, look at the expiration date on the label. Car seats expire 7 to 10 years after their manufacture date. Expiration dates are put on car seats because they tend to be stored in hot cars and over time the materials can weaken.
My frunk is full of junk.😂
You now falsely have a mark on your account. This is unjust and the fact they warn you is wrong.
The Scarlet Letter A... 😂
Not sure about Lyft. In last 2 weeks have had 1 safety violation and 3 service violations. Don't know why because they won't tell me. I have 600 rides on Lyft and have a 5* rating. Have 2200 rides on Uber and have a 4.98 rating and don't get any complaints from my riders. It makes me not want to drive for Lyft even though I love ride filter keeping me in the area I want to stay in.
I hate the secretive nature of the ratings. 😡
Same. I think older passengers (specifically state funded medical riders) complain the most. One rider, an elderly woman with an aide, gave me a service complaint because I did not help the aide , who was pushing her wheelchair, put the wheelchair in my trunk. I mean, how many people does it take to load a wheelchair in the trunk. Anyway, I knew it was her because of her attitude and the timing of the complaint. I guess there is nothing we can really do about it, but 'suck it up, and drive on', as my first sergeant used to say😂 Love the majority of my passengers though, they keep my day interesting.
Gig rocket from the rideshare professor will go after them for unfair deactivations.
Will they? I will go check out Gig Rocket right now!
Let me know how it goes. 👍🏻
He's good like that. 👍🏻
Here is my no child seat story. I go to Social Services and this huge black woman has her 2 yr old daughter and no car seat! I tell her no car seat no ride and drive 50 yds away and wait the 5 minute timer to cancel so I could get paid $5! She sees what I am doing and calls me and tells me she is going to report me! lol I told her I will report her and tear out of my parking spot at her to give her a piece of my mind. She went running in to Social Services I waited the five minutes and got paid $5! Not worth it. I also had to file a report on her and take time out of my day. I am glad you are back.
I'm glad I'm back too. ❤️
Levi, I hope you have a wonderful new year.
You too Lisa! Let's reconnect for a Syracuse driver meetup this year!
Uber did the same thing to me back before the pandemic. Turns out the allegations were false, but they don’t apologize for turning off your app and keeping you from making money even though they find out it wasn’t even true to begin with. That’s the problem I have with all these apps There’s no accountability.
It's horrible. 😡
I’m glad to hear that you are back on the Lyft platform again Levi… me myself I would not drive on New Year’s Eve unless I am doing food or packing delivery… Ride share is full of risk and liability as it stands without adding additional problems…I feel that the risk is magnified during these problematic periods of the likes of New Year’s Eve… what I do if i pick up a passenger that smells of marijuana or any strong alcohol beverage I stop new requests and then make the drop off… I open all the windows of my car for at least 10 minutes… I also keep a can of Febreze air Refresher in my truck for situations such as this… no matter how good of a driver we are and kind it only takes one passenger to make this job terrible!… good once again to hear you got back on Lyft quickly though… Keep safe and God Bless.
Deactivate for being to nice !!! Damn wake n bake ? B4 we drive ? Always hehe
😂😂😂
OH NO!!! NOT LEVI!! THIS GUY IS THE MR ROGERS OF RIDESHARE. THESE PASSENGERS NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE ALREADY!
I had a woman say we were in a car accident on a $120 Lax ride. No accident. I asked what will happen to the liar? UBER said we will make sure you never get her again. and she got a free ride and I was taken off the app on a Friday and didn't get back on until Tuesday. UBER said if I got a lawyer they could file an a document to get the pax name and sue in small claims court.
Mr. Rogers. 😂❤️
I refuse rides if they don't have a car seat. I was accused of being racist once. She had 5 kids and her. All young kids, no car seat. She even wanted 2 of them to share a seatbelt. I refused., called support and reported her
I have done this and will continue to refuse anyone with an child and no carseat! It's safety for the child and everyone in the vehicle. Not to mention it's the LAW! A flying child can kill others in the car as well as the child. Parents need to be educated about this...I guess it just isn't getting thru these days.
There's like no way to defend yourself. 😣
2025 started odd for me too. I got my first low $3 ride on New Years Day. It was slow so I took it, but I question why I am driving when a 15-20 minute total time ride pays only $3. That is below minimum wage where I live even before you account for driving costs. Also on New Years Eve at Norfolk airport, I was confronted with the hypocrisy of an $8.25 surge in the airport waiting lot, but the rides coming through where well below $1/mile even with that surge added.....what has happened to rideshare? Even when demand is high like on New Year Eve, the pay is not. I guess there are too many drivers now and the apps are just cutting back on driver pay to maximize app profitability. Sad days are ahead I fear.
Please do not take this the wrong way and I understand what you are saying. “You took a $3 ride because it was slow”. This is why prices are low and will stay low because of desperate drivers. We are all desperate drivers. But as a whole we have to decline these so our level of pay stays up there. Something $ is better than nothing but we have to stop the rot. 2025 is going to be a painful economic year. Ride share will be brutal. Look at the stock prices of Uber and especially Lyft and ask yourself does this company care about me or the investor. Pretty obvious. Good luck to all.
@@alanbyrne8578 I agree completely. I'm not taking a $3 rides again. At the airport, I sat for 2 hours in the waiting lot for a fair paying ride on New Years Eve and in the end just drove 45 mile home empty instead of taking a ride that favored Uber. I know it would have been financially in my favor to take a cheap ride toward home rather than drive empty, but I could not help but feel used by the lowball offers......so I chose to hurt myself and hurt Uber instead. It become more about principle than profit at some point.
Actually, I'm going through almost the identical thing as we speak with Uber. The complaint that the rider felt like I was under the influence. My reply was that've been driving Uber 8+ years, 6,200 rides (another 4,000 rides with Lyft and have a 4.95 driver rating. I only done 3 rides when I got this notice. I would guess it was from rider by the name of "X"....someone that doesn't represent a name on their profile. He got in the car with a Viking type hat (horns sticking out) and appeared to relate to his same sex. I'm sure it was someone looking for a free ride. Unfortunately, it's been 24 hours and haven't heard anything. They said it takes 24-48 hours. In a way, I feel like I've been violated.
It's so horrible. It happens to so many of us! 😡😡😡
I was deactivated from Lyft 10 weeks ago because a rider made the completely untrue, 100% bogus claim that I, the driver, was not the driver that was registered to the account, based on the photo in the rider app. I assured her that the photo was of me and that I am me, me mine. She made the complaint to Lyft (after taking the ride without incident) and Lyft chose to believe her preposterous story, deactivated me, accusing me of leasing out my car and account (for what, like $20 per night. Ha.) We have no protection from these people.
What?! 😳
Maybe a passenger who said that your vehicle smelled like alcohol had a drink or two before they got into your vehicle and their sense of smell was not right.
😂😂😂
@@tipyouintheapp Hello by the way I watch many of your videos and I know that you said that you are not an accountant and neither am I but you made a comment about Sales tax when I had a question about income tax. The understanding that i have is that for some reason a person who uses Lyft and Uber to earn money pay more in income tax than people who use Doordash and Lyft to earn money. Even if on all 4 apps the same amount of money gets deposited to the bank during the year. Any thoughts on why? and I really don't Sales tax has much to do with it.Thank you.
I meant to say "and I really don't think that Sales tax has much to do with it".
Yea mam I had a guy with sensitive smell complaining about smells in a vehicle one time but he still tipped after the trip ended
Passenger smells are the worst. I must spray my car a million times a day. 😂
I routinely take parents with kids without car seats. It's insane what parents do!
So true! Be safe out there! ❤️
