Just did mine now. Great tips! I had rubbing alcohol but no spray. Just lubed it up and slid it in, soo easy! 👀 Did have to make a few adjustments but no biggie. Put on an overgrip and voila!
A TINY bit of dawn dish soap and a touch of water. Dab your finger. Only put the solution on form top to about half way down. The rest will slide. Let rest for an hour or two. Twist to test it’s dry. Then throw on your overgrip! Takes me seconds.
I’ve done a lot of Python grips. I used wd40 because it drys over night.
I’ll have to give that a try!
Jojolemon shark 001 compared to this paddle?? I can’t decide
I have never heard of the jojolemon. I will say vatic has good quality control.
Great video! Thanks
Thanks, Love the grips!
This method worked great for me. I tried using the plastic tabs, but they broke. This grip sure increases the diameter of the handle. Have yet to play with it. Thanks for the vid.
Have you tried soaking in hot water first?
Yes, it does work ok. Rubbing alcohol it by far the best
Thank you!
I have not tried the balls yet but …….Selkirk’s warranty is a load of bullshit. Here’s why: (1) You must submit a minimum of (4) balls for a claim (2) “Normal wear and tear is NOT covered” (3) You have to pay $6.00 for each claim. Question: If abuse and misuse is not covered AND normal wear and tear is not covered, what the HELL is covered? The best part is that you don’t get ANY notice of these “warranty” terms until AFTER you buy and complete the warranty registration. So, if you laid out $2.50 each for 4 cracked balls (plus tax) you will pay another $6 to file a warranty claim for a total of $16. That’s $4.00 per ball. Like I said, the product had better be good because the warranty sucks ass.
Which Hesacore grip did you buy for the Hurache X control?
Elongated verison
I like using 2 over grips which size do you think will most likely imitate that including the one over grip applied after the hesacore installation ?
If you like using two overgrips because you like a thicker grip then you can go with the medium and use one over grip. If you are unsure about the ridges you can go with a x small or small and put two overgrips on to reduce the ridges. You can re use these grips on new paddles. I have reused one at least 4 times.
I love Six Zero but there are better looking paddles.
WOW!
Have you tried the Ultra X from The Best Paddle?
bro blink! lol jk jk, awesome video, think imma try pickleapes PLES
I’ll make sure to blink in the next video! That is still one of my favorites.
I much prefer the X-40. Our Association switched to the S1. I bring my own X-40s and insist on swapping-out to the Franklin on my court. (So far, not one player in our 4.0+ Round Robin has objected. Can't stand the S1. It sounds like it's cracked (when it isn't.). It goes out of round more often than the X-40. (About as frequently as the Dura.) So what that the S1 doesn't break? (And it does not.) It's hardness makes for less / lower bounce and it doesn't take spin as well as the Dura or the X-40.
That sucks you don’t like. I still like the S1 better and I have been playing franklins for the past few months. The paddle you use makes a big difference. Franklins play good with just about any paddle. The Selkirk ball with a power paddle can be unforgiving and frustrating. I can generate a lot more spin with the Selkirk. I don’t think it is even close in comparison. I do plan to test it in the near future.
@@EverythingPB I should have added that my home court is at 7,400 ft. I view the S1 as a low altitude ball ... where I bet it is less annoying.
Any cases of it becoming deformed?
They do become misshaped occasionally. I have found you can leave them at room temp or slightly higher and they will regain their shape. Most of the weird bounces are high vs not bouncing at all. I pretty much only play the Selkirk ball at this point. They are not perfect but I still think it’s the best ball.
@@EverythingPB At this point in time I've heard from quite a few that the Selkirk Pro S1 go out of round far more quickly than the Franklin X-40s. My thought is, who cares if the ball doesn't crack but goes out of round. For the money the X-40s seem to be more durable over all if playing in normal temperatures and a better value over all.
Fantastic review! This is the most honest, realistic, and most accurate description of how these particular paddles play than any review I have seen thus far. My experience with the Six Zero Paddles (Black Diamond, DBD, Ruby) is exactly like yours unlike other reveiewers except that the Ruby always had a great sweet spot for me even though, like you said, there was a break-in period. Keep it up and when you get a chance please review the Neonic Flow. It is quite possibly even better than the B&B Loco.
I will see if I can review that one. I have fallen behind recently working on too many videos and not wanting to stop playing. I will say I have a few Ruby’s and my first one was unlike the rest. My others have a better sweet spot. It’s likely a one off since it was part of the first batch. Thanks for the feed back. Can’t wait to roll out some more videos.
I’m also looking forward to your ruby review. When is that coming out ?
It will def be this coming weekend. I am working on that and the Hesacore grip review.
Can’t get through a 2hr session without cracking at least 1 Franklin ball. Not the case with Selkirk.
Great reviews. Thanks for dividing them up as you did.
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.
The Apes line of paddles (both the PLE S and the PLE Elongated) are spectacular combinations of power and control with lots of spin. The 6.25" length on the PLE is amazing for so many reasons beyond using a two-handed backhand. Vatic Pro Flash is still an amazing paddle for anyone starting out who wants something more than a fiberglass paddle.
I haven't gotten to play with the new S1 yet, but looking forward to it. I agree Selkirk will have a big lead with their deep dev pockets and I kinda hope they become the new standard as my pile of broken X-40's shows there is room for improvement. Also, just wanna say you are the 'Luke Combs' of pickleball, haha! And like him, I predict you'll have great success with your channel, bravo!
The Selkirk is my favorite ball at the moment. The new Gamma ball and Diadem ball sounds like good options as well. The Selkirk, in colder weather, can loose its shape. Spring is right around the corner so excited to see how it plays in warmer weather.
I've watched a few of your vids and I applaud you on launching this channel! I think you have great potential because you have excellent command over the spoken word and your delivery. There is no stuttering, stammering, mis-speaking that is so common with new channels. Your content shows your experience and passion for the game and that you've put lots of thought and prep into each of your videos! The only suggestion I can offer is to make your broadcast a little more interesting. It almost looks like you may be reading word for word. If that's what it takes to deliver your great content, then so be it. But if you can move around a bit more, maybe stand sometimes and use visual aids and body language, I think it will help engage your audience. Looking forward to more of your coverage of this great game we all love!
Thanks! Some videos I have to retake quite a few times. I don’t have a teleprompter yet. Right now I am just going off notes or reviews I have pre wrote for guidance. My current studio setup is limited because my office space is so small. I have to sit low in the shot. In the next few months i will be moving to a new spot so i will have some more room for my studio. Excited about what I can accomplish this year.
@@EverythingPB sounds like you're on the right track, looking forward to seeing your improvements and new studio!
I am so looking forward to your ruby review! I am currently playing with the ruby but having a bit of a hard time adjusting and figuring it out. Do you have any tips that might help?
The ball makes a big difference when it comes to the Ruby. I found that it plays better with harder and faster balls. Softer balls can be tricky due to the plush feel. I can struggle with resets and drops by leaving them short. If I start to struggle I just switch back to one of the carbon fiber paddles I keep in my bag. I plan to make a video on having a reliable carbon fiber paddle in the bag. One that isn’t flashy but just plays well with any ball. Probably more control oriented. I really like the loco by bread and butter and kiwi labs slice.
Thanks for the focus on the "hybrid" shape. I'm leaning toward this shape for my next buy. Waiting on 6.0s concept paddle they may release soon. I shuffle paddles all the time so playing my GB Pro Pwr E is tricky to play with. Good luck this year with your channel.
Thanks! I have tried elongated paddles but the extra drag on overheads have always caused discomfort in my shoulder. Hybrids shaped paddles though not much different made a big difference.
@@EverythingPB I'm with ya on the shoulder issue. Arthritis wrecks it for overheads. I play a "ping pong" so overheads don't get hit that hard. I went ahead and bought the MARK Kinetic. Next day I see the HPC J2K release and now have second thoughts on the MARK.
I reached out last night about those paddles. I like the ruby a lot. Interested to see how the j2k pro plays in comparison. I should finish up my Ruby review this weekend along side the Hesacore grips video.
I agree its a great looking paddle, but if looking for even the slightest power, forget it. This was 200 in garbage. Not enough lead tape in the world to help this thing
It’s defiantly not for everyone. I enjoyed playing with it. I wish they would make this same paddle with an edge guard. It’s so different from the original. A black diamond control. I would be all in.
Just purchased a Prism for my upgrade after playing a couple of months should arrive today super excited to get some play time on it
Nice, it’s a good upgrade from the super cheap beginner paddles. You will enjoy it and can get a lot of use out of it!
I am a beginner. What is the paddle mentioned in the video that you use? Thanks!
The two best paddles I can think of and still really enjoy is the Kiwi Labs Slice. Which was just updated with more spin and a normal size handle. The Bread & Butter Loco. linktr.ee/everythingpb You can’t go wrong with either. If you want something cheaper let me know.
I couldn't agree with you more in regards to not using it in tournaments. I tried it for about a week every day and could not get used to the inconsistency of the paddle due to the very small sweet spot.
Right! Someone else thought the sweet spot was much larger. I think the ball you play with makes a big difference. This paddle might be great with softer balls like the franklin x -40. Mishits with a less forgiving ball can be brutal.
I have some 40 hours or so of play time on this paddle, I think that the sweet spot is substantial larger than you describe. Especially with some perimeter weighting( but still plenty fast at the NVZ line). Additionally, unlike the new gear box paddle the transition out of the sweet spot is predictable. Often it can be “ felt” and compensated for during the finish . The spin generation on all stroke directions is first class. More of a control and spin paddle overall versus power/speed.
I played mine for a few weeks. I am sure the sweet spot gets bigger with more play. I had about 20 hrs of gameplay. Also depends how much weight is added to the edge. I liked it but I like the larger sweet spot on the Loco and Ruby.
.3 oz, not .03 oz for lead tape.
Good catch if I mis spoke. I keep my paddles around 8.5 ounces.
Vadic,Mark, six o all hybrid but price is ll over the place do your research
Great review, awesome channel. Quick question. About lead tape. How many inches you add, and is 1g by inch or .5 g by inch thanks
I buy lead tape from Dicks Sporting Goods. Maxfli. Not sure how heavy it is. It’s on the lighter side so I put longer strips which I like a lot.
@@EverythingPB thanks so much
@@EverythingPB did you try apes pro line S before? I want some Info compared with Hyperion c2
I haven’t played the C2. I would guess the c2 has more pop, and a stiffer face. A little less control. Main difference would probably be the stiffer response.
hello i am currently using double black diamond paddle. i am looking for a little more power and pop paddle and not sure if i should upgrade to Ruby or the Single diamond infinity? what is your opinion. i am greatly appreciated !! thank you !!
I’m in the same boat, would appreciate an answer for this!
Unfortunately you might have to look outside of six zero for that paddle at least for now. The original black diamond is marginally better at both with less feel and control. The ruby has same control, more power but less pop for drives and overheads. Ruby has good pop on blocks and counters. Black diamond infinity has great pop and no power. I had to add a decent amount of lead to get both. It’s probably the closest to have both because it can be modified. You can add lead to every corner and keep it a mid swing weight under 120. Also a closer feel to the dbd and gets a ton of spin. Hope this helps
thank you for your reply!! i just ordered the BDI hopefully i can modify it if there something go wrong. I really appreciate your reply and hope you are success on your channel.. Thank you again!! I am more to the kitchen games drops, reset, and fast hand. not looking. do you recoment any other paddle? It's very hard to find a weapon that fits me as my arm! @@EverythingPB
If the smaller sweet spot isn’t a deal breaker I think you are going to like that one a lot. The Anna Leigh paddletek or Gruvn Muvn 13s could be good options as well.
Good review . I have every 6.0 paddle and honestly this is prob the best paddle in the lineup. Do not add weight to this paddle. Completely defeats the purpose of it. Just get the regular BD then. Another downside to this paddle is the painted edge. Super fragile. Cracks Chips and will crack off. Definitely need to use edge guard tape. I recommend 2 layers.
OK...Right now, I'm playing the Ruby with Franklin X40 balls and the Pickleball Apes Pro Energy S with any ball that is harder than a Franklin X40. Than I hear you tell us that these are the two paddles you are playing with! Nice video, BTW! I especially appreciate how you talk about and assess sweet spot and forgiveness. I played with the Black Diamond Power (Fiberglass) and loved it one day and put it down the next...now I'm realizing that must have been lack of forgiveness there and I was a little off the second day.
Thanks for the feedback. I just got done playing the edgeless version of the black diamond. If you are hitting the sweet spot the paddle is amazing! If you have an off day or get tired the paddle becomes a nightmare. Fun paddle when you are playing good.
You say you have fast hands, but isn't having even faster hands better :)
Yes and no lol. I actually missed points because my timing was off. I had to adjust to the lighter paddle.
Solid review! Vatic paddles didn’t make the cut? Maybe prism for control/all court or flash for pop?
If you watched the whole video Greg the prism flash did make the honorable mention…. lol I didn’t put them in there because by the end of the year they just didn’t stand out for performance or value.
Have both slite difference both good for the money the prism flash excellent first paddle only 90bucks
You also need to to volair forza!!
There is an older guy that plays one at my courts and either the paddle has a ton of pop of his is slightly delaminated. Cause his over heads are a lot faster then you would think. I wouldn’t mind play testing them for sure.
What about the black diamond infinity behind you? !!
Don’t want to spoil it too much. I actually like the Infinity BD it has some interesting trade offs. It’s a lot softer than I thought it would be.
@@EverythingPB can’t wait for the review
Love my Pickleball Apes Energy S.
Great review of top hybrid paddles !
Thanks! 👍
Nice work! I love my DBD 16mm but it irritates my tennis elbow a bit. Did you notice any of the other paddles being more "elbow friendly"? My Vatic Flash (orange) is super elbow friendly but it is just nowhere near as controllable as the DBD.
From what I know stiffer paddles make it worse because of the vibrations. I would probably try the kiwi slice. The only paddle I have used that has cause soreness in my elbow is vatic prism flash. I will try to research this and make a video in future.
@@EverythingPB I had the same experience with the Prism Flash. I have heard the CRBN X series is very good on the elbow but they are more pure power paddles. I am looking for all court. Would love to see a video on the issue! Also, are you using a Hesacore? If so please do review on the grip.
I’ll pick up one of those grips for my apes paddle. You can try the loco or the apes pro line s. They do have a 30 day love it or return policy.
Great review! I tested the DBD and felt it didn't have enough pop on the overhead, so I bought the Ruby. I loved the Ruby. Could use alittle bit more pop/or power on the overhead and put aways, but dinking way better than my Legacy Pro. My son is on the smaller side and needs more power. Do you think the regular black diamond will have more power than the Ruby? Is the black diamond controllable on the dinks and the third shot drops?
The black diamond doesn’t have a ton of inital pop. It really shines on blocks and counters. It’s more than the Ruby but stiffer and less overall control. When you say kid I am assuming under 18 years old. One paddle that delivers good initial pop is the Engage Pursuit Pro. My friend’s son plays with one and he has seen a big improvement. He is in middle school. Another one that comes to mind is the Gurvn Muvn 13s has a good amount of initial pop and very light. If you can test either of those I would try those first to be honest. You’ll get the pop and better control.
Very nice video, lots of detail information.
That’s awesome! I appreciate the feedback.
I also have Pickleball Apes and Ruby. No comments for Apes since the shape is long elongated and did take me a while to get used to. My first impression of Ruby was a hard-hitting feel and I can grip the ball better, however, after a few weeks of rec and a small tournament play, I feel the surface is kinda of softening now. The spin is still great and as you said, the dwell time is a bit longer than normal carbon fiber face, but I do need to hit harder to generate the power I need, especially when I play single. There is a new paddle called Body Helix X-3 Pro. Could you try to give a review of that paddle?
I will look into that paddle for sure! I tried researching Kevlar. It does get softer over time I also couldn’t find how the colder temps affect the materials performance. I may reach out to DuPont and see if they can answer those questions.
@@EverythingPB Thanks for the reply! Well, my background is from table tennis, so when I played Ruby the first time, I thought there was finally a paddle designed for table tennis players. The arc generated from the forehand drive amazed me. However, the current soft touch/hitting feel is kinda of weakening my power stroke unless I swing harder to generate the power and send the ball back to land closer to the opponent's baseline. Again, the spin and arc are still amazing for sure, but I need to add extra of my own power to feel the penetrating effect. This is obvious when playing in Single. My single opponent also noticed the speed of the incoming ball from my groundstroke was slower than using a carbon fiber paddle I hit. I guess the original design of Ruby using a woven Kevlar face was a good beginning, but it definitely needs some improvement. (like adding a strengthening plate underneath the Kevlar fiber cloth like Hudef VIVA Pro 2).
I would bet a new core will likely be the solution. I would bet that 6.0 comes out with a power version of the Ruby this year. If they don’t someone else will
Love me some hybrids! I have 2 DBD 16mm, DBD 14mm, the Ruby, and the Loco. Each are amazing in their own way!
Agreed! Excited to see what other Kevlar paddles come out next.
Are any of them noticeably easier on the elbow?
@@gregs69rs , The 14mm DBD has the lowest swing weight of the bunch, but less control due to being a 14mm paddle. Out the 16mm paddles, the Loco I got came in at 7.7oz and had the lowest swing weight. Hope that helps.
How do you feel about the 14mm.all my paddles are 14 like pop
Haven’t been a huge fan of 14mm paddles. The extra pop is usually a trade off for power and control. I like a good balance. A lot of pros use 14mm and weight them up.
Great review!!!! Just bought the BD and am super excited. Its my first big upgrade and Ive never played with carbon fiber (current paddle is fiberglass) so im hoping its a quick learning curve
Just so you know, the Black Diamond has a composite face. Which is a mix of carbon and fiberglass. The Double Black Diamond has the raw carbon face.
@@PhoenixRugerRedBird exactly. Which is why I opted for the BD bc I am currently playing with a fiberglass paddle
You should be fine! Super fun paddle to play with. The sweet spot is fairly small at first. It opens up in a week or so depending on how much you play. Great for dinking. Resets just take time to dial in. Overall great choice. I have really been enjoying the infinity version.
i use the 14mm and love it (for me, prefer it over the 16)
I have had others say that as well. I wonder if I got a dud. I don’t think quality control is that great across the board. Since I am still having to buy paddles I usually only buy one to play test.
In my paddle data analysis - Pickleball Apes Proline Energy S ranked 1st when comparing these four categories: spin, power, pop, and price. The pro line energy came in 11th. Very respectable among the giants. Raw data spreadsheet included 78 paddles and was provided by John Kew. To hear it has great control only adds to what I found. good job.
This may be the most underrated paddle of 2023. I think other reviewers didn’t spend enough time with it to make videos. The spin you can get with the new Selkirk pro s1 is insane. I plan to do some spin tests with the apes paddle pro line s and different balls to show how much the ball can change someone’s opinion on a paddle. I believe the apes paddles generate the most spin out of any other paddle I have ever played. To see if I am right or wrong I plan to make a video to find out.
I believe they have a blue/black (dark gray) weave coming out.
I think they could really stand out if they can change the color of the Kevlar. I just didn’t know if it was possible.
