Here's a short video about my creaking seat post on my nearly new Canyon Aeroad. Easy to grease and fix but the repair hasn't been lasting too long and then I have to do it again. Here's Canyon's video that I mention in my video. ua-cam.com/video/Tm8CHItqUqY/v-deo.html

My new Canyon Aeroad came in today so I thought I might video the unboxing and build. This is the Sram AXS version and notice the crankset. It is labeled Force but is a Red crankset. The bike also came with Zipp Firecrest 404 wheels. Thanks for watching.

Awesome bike
The new Aeroads don’t have the cut section in the saddle. Is this problem only at the old models? I thinking about buy an aeroad…
The new bike definitely has a different post system than my generation. I don't know if the new system has the compliance and comfort of mine. It looks like they went with more stiffness in that area as a result of the issues that some have had. By the way, I have not had anymore issues with the seatpost since I created this video.
Any long term comments on maintenance? I have this bike preordered. I’m worried about Canyon using proprietary parts where it’s not necessary and making DIY bike mechanic stuff a pain or making your local bike shop annoyed too
Thanks for the question. The only issue that I've had since the creaking seatpost (which no longer creaks) is the the headset bearings (top) have not done well. I've had to redo them because the design of the frame allows ingress of water into the cup area at the top. I have to be very careful when washing the bike or after a rainstorm to tip the bike on it's back wheel and let all the water drain from the headset area. Other than that, nothing unusual. The handlebars are fantastic and I haven't had any additional issues with the seatpost. That design has changed on the newer Aeroads also.
Great review, nice bike. Thank you. 😊
Paul what do you think about the Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 8 Di2 when comes to climbing. Right i am trying to choose a new bike but everyone keeps telling me to buy an endurance and i came uncertain what to choose I am 43 years of age.
If you're a decent climber, then the Aeroad would be my choice. The speed you save on the flat and the comfort of the bike offset the slight advantage that the endurance has via being a little lighter.
nice vid! I'm having a similar problem. do you know whether you have to position the sticker at a specific position?
No. The sensor just has to read it once per revolution.
Can you tell me what type of white tape you used? I’ve run into the same problem in the last 10 minutes which is how I found your video but there seems to be a wide variety of white tapes available.
Anything that is bright white should work. Mine is from a label making machine.
How did you decide on aero vs ultimate?
The Aero offered the best for my needs.
Beautiful bike! Nowadays Canyon does not sell Aeroad in white
I just noticed the Silver color option, but still prefer the white.
silicone grease is inert and will not react with rubber.
by the looks i would guess a boneshaker bike. i cant believe the comfort can be that. maybe i have to buy and figure out myself
that bike is very comfy tbh
Thanks for sharing. Have you had any issues with the hookless thing on the ZIPPs wheels?
These Zipp wheels are not hookless. Standard hooked rims for me.
Eggs from the seat post and frame😢

thank you I have a white plastic part in the steering wheel that is coming off you know if it's annoying
Not sure what you mean by this comment. Sorry
Thank you !! you saved me a lot of money lol
got to love that freehub noise :) good looking bike
clean it real good then use electrical tape ( one layer ) on opposite sie of tension screw and one time around top bat area. fixed. that will hold 6 month to a year. then replace
Hi Paul. Yours was one of the most comprehensive videos on youtube for diagnosing the seatpost creak issue that I too was experiencing on my Aeroad CFR. I tried everything recommended here and on forums like Weight Weenies and nothing resolved it. After a lengthy period of diagnostics and testing, cursing and lateral thought I finally discovered the issue with my bike and wanted to note in here in case it proves useful for others. The issue for me was the plastic insert that slides into the frame (that the seatpost slides into) - this insert had not been glued sufficiently at the factory and accordingly was moving just a little to the left and right and it was this movement that was causing my creak on every pedal stroke as my body weight shifted even slightly as I pedaled. I checked with Canyon and they said they would organise to ship the bike back to them to fix. But I didn’t want to be without the bike for up to 2 weeks. So I went to my local hardware store and bought a tube of 2-part epoxy specifically made for plastics. The brand I chose was Loctite and should be available worldwide. I squeezed the plastic insert as much as I could to create a gap between it and the frame and then carefully poured some of the epoxy into the gap and then clamped it overnight. I then installed the seatpost the next day and I have not had a single creak or sound since then and it has been over 3 weeks of riding over rough roads, smooth roads, traintracks etc. Hope this information helps others in the same predicament. Thank you
Thanks so much for your comment. I hope that this will help others too.
Very nice review, sir! so glad you are having a blast with the bike
good work mate, nice bike and nice useful video. slightly goofy but I love it :D
Ow my.. What a same... I noticed that this post was a year older and not sure if canyon has resolved the issue with their proprietary Brand since it's almost the end of 2023.. I really like this bike but for that reason of imperfection; I rather not spend my hard earned cash on that bike.. I have an ICAN A9 TRIAERO and had zero problem ever since I built it up..
Well done !!! Thanks for this very detailed video. I have a 4 month old Aeroroad CFR and like it very much and no issues with seat post so far. I will pull the post and redo the install with you procedure, just to be on the safe side.
Hi, do you have dimmensions for the white sticker ? I have a trainer with no power isue but theres no sticker on fly wheel. put one on and have some power but it shows some realy too big numbers after calibration
The sticker is about a half inch wide. Just enough for the sensor to see it and count it. Hope this helps!
Great video. Recently completed a century and it popped up in my ride and was loud. Tried your fix and another century later I didn’t here a peep!
Paul, I appreciate your detailed approach to the video. I’m a little surprised to see you agree with the comment about how awful the bike is when you’re clearly in love with it in the video. I love mine…she climbs, is comfortable, and holds 20+ in the flats. Only aero design that beats it is the S5. Your video helped me fix my creaks, so thank you. I’m 5’8” 170lbs riding an XS, so the seat is nearly maxed. In my opinion it is indeed the lube up top, not just the friction paste down low. Curious to know if you have a recommendation on travel bag/box for the aeroad…smallest possible. Cheers, and happing riding.
Canun sei un falsario
I’m surprised it’s that comfortable for a 78 miler. I can only ride 20 before my back is too sore to go any further.
This is my first road ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and I have taken it out a handful of times and so far it is exceeding all of my expectations. I didn’t want to break the bank on a first bike and the herd is a great option for getting a fast bike with reliable components. I plan on riding this bike for many years to come. Thank you Sava!
How has the front derailleur been for you? Does the chain drop/have you had to install a chain catcher? I just got this bike a few days ago and am new to SRAM Force.
The front derailleur has worked just fine. I think in 5000 miles, the chain has come off the outer ring about 5 times. Never on the inside and I don’t use a chain catcher. Have fun with your new bike!
Instead of using a paintbrush and putting the carbon paste right inside the frame have you considered to put it on the front of the narrow part of the seatpost, so on the part that touches the frame where the paintbrush was used?
That would probably work but you absolutely don’t want any paste near the insert point, which is why I use the brush.
@@paulbonner8874hi paul, why would that be bad?
Which size is it? How Tall are you? Do you Know Your inner leg length? Thank you sir
Bike is a large and I'm 6"1
6"1 and u got L? im 6" and they suggest me M.. is there any significant different from M and L?@@paulbonner8874
Nice glutes and package!
What kind of lubricant brand or model do you use for the plastic joint of the seatpost ? Canyon one is 16€ for ridiculous quantity...
Finish Line Premium Grease and Finish Line Fiber Grip
What is the grease brand recommanded ?
Finish Line Grease
@@paulbonner8874 And why have you turned the Mucc off?
Thanks@@paulbonner8874, which One please ?
Actually, I use both Muc and Finish line, but prefer the Muc for the seatpost and finish line for bearings.
Hey Paul can you upload a video from someone recording you to see how the white details on the rims look like when you are running? Thanks and also what is the name of the rims you have?

Thank your for making this video. I’ve had my Aeroad CFR for about 6 weeks and 700 miles on it. A couple of days ago during a ride the seat post dropped down in the middle of a ride. Got home and screw was properly torqued to 5NM. I have not experienced any creaking issues yet. Looking inside the seat tube I only see white crease all over. I have been adjusting the seat height many times to get it dialed in, maybe that wore off the carbon paste causing it to loose grip? Going to contact Canyon and see what they tell me.
Seatpost drop is often caused by lack of carbon paste. Clean the area really well and grease and paste per video. You should be good then.
Appreciate the update sir
I'm interested in the newly revised Aeroad (looks like they've reverted to a traditional seat post) but I still have some concerns about the CP0018 handlebar. Specifically how it clamps to the steerer tube. Can you do a quick video showing inside the steerer tube? Is there any insert in there protecting it from a critical failure?
Thanks for commenting. I was going to make a video of adjusting the handlebar but I saw that the canyon video is very clear. I recommend that you watch that one. As far as failure, I have not had any issues with the bar and stem. The feeling is very solid and it hasn't moved or sunk since I took out the shims and adjusted it.
@@paulbonner8874 thanks Paul. That’s what I’m struggling with is whether there is actually something‘wrong’ with this bike or not. There’s a few forums where people comment about issues but it’s hard to tell how widespread problems are. It’s possible that because of Canyon’s business model that these complaints naturally end up on the internet vs in a shop where only a handful of people are aware of them. Consequently Canyon appears to be plagued with issues when in reality they are no different than any other brand. It’s reassuring to hear from satisfied owners such as yourself.
Hi Paul, great video, and good to see how to pull the flywheel off. My issue is the spot on the roller that contacts the tyre is worn to the point that it is concave (yes, lots of kms!), and the anodised aluminium is gone, so I have smooth aluminium. Unless I tighten the tyre ridiculous amounts, it tends to slip on grades and sprints. I noticed you talked about the adjustment bolts in the roller. Can that roller be removed and replaced??? any thoughts?! Thanks!
Daniel, I've never heard of someone wearing out the aluminum roller, but there are 2 set-screws that may help you remove the roller and replace. You'd have to get everything apart first, as the lower plastic piece would also need to be removed. I'm not sure if you can get replacement parts, though. You'll have to contact Wahoo. Good luck.
What is the weight of your build.
I don’t have exact weight but it’s a little over 17lbs as shown here.
Thanks for the great review. ATM i ride 2019 emonda sl6( size 58) and im 6ft (183cm) tall when i got the bike i didnt know too much about it so ive got it thinking it was right size for me... but after ride 30+ miles my back starts to ache and around 50mile ish it hurts so much 😅 I really like canyon aeroad (style wise and it seems its bang for the bucks) but some of my friends telling me dont get aero bike because my back will hurt more than right now.. I was thinking about it alot specifically because of the seat pot issue but great to see it some ppl found fix for it. Thanks again for great after review 😊
Ouch, that saddle bag….
What are other options? I would love a bag down below my bottles but can’t find it anywhere.
You mentioned the System 6. How do the Canyon compare to the System 6?
I don’t think I mentioned System 6. My older bike is Specialized Tarmac. I think the 6 is an amazing bike and would consider it also if you were looking for new bike.
@@paulbonner8874 Oh ok. I currently have the System 6 . Just was wondering how they compare being that the Canyon is lighter in weight.
Hi Paul, thank you for this video. I am having a similar issue with my bike and driving me crazy. Canyon solution didn't help. I am going to try yours but I ran out of paste. Did you use carbon gripper by the clamp? Do you mind linking to the paste you or canyon recommend to use by the clamp? Thank you!
I used Finish Line Fiber Grip at the clamp only and Finish Line white grease at the rubber seal. Just be careful not to get any grip on the rubber as that is where the post moves a little and the grip will act as sandpaper on the seat post.
Sorry Paul, but in the video you don't add any Finish brand grease, but you do add Mucc off brand.@@paulbonner8874
@@mariosimonperez7815 you’re absolutely correct. I forgot that I have that tube too. I think that either one is fine, as long as you get the fiber grip only at the clamping zone.
@@paulbonner8874 I have gotten Cnyon to change my seatpost due to poor condition and plastic dressing, which is what was causing the problem. Now there is a new one that is better and avoids these problems. 300 km and zero problems. thanks
Hey Paul, thanks for the review. It was very informative! Glad to hear that you got the seatpost sorted. Cheers from a future Canyon owner 🎉
What is the weight of this build?
I never weighed the bike but it's about 17lbs.
What do you think about Canyon sizing? I am 198cm with a 95.6cm inseam so just between XL and XXL, what would you recommend? I tend to go bigger but wonder if that would be stretching me out too much.
I think the XXL is the right frame for you. I put your data into Canyon and they recommend that also. I originally felt my Canyon was too small by comparing it to my older bike, but I think the XL would be really small for you.
Hey Paul thanks for the updates. Really appreciate your taking the time. I’m sure all us Canyon folk are enjoying hearing how your seat-post issue has gone. Happy to say my CFR is same to you. Zero issues since the full grease up and maximum enjoyment. These machines fly
I admire your honest enthusiasm. Good for you 👍
Thanks
