Grumpy In Maine
United States
Приєднався 6 лис 2022
Maine is a beautiful state and we take every opportunity to enjoy it. We focus on the outdoor aspects of what our state has to offer from fishing to camping, general exploring and backpacking. Please note though, we are middle aged, slightly grumpy, partially worn out physically, (not 25 anymore), and our views etc are taken from that position. I am an avid amateur astronomer and astrophotographer, so from time to time we may mix things up a little and add a video or two on the subject. Where we hate the snow, what else would you do over the winter up here?! Go crazy and dream about the warmer months while you freeze and pay inflated heating costs? Bah. I should also mention (warn) that we do some gear reviews on occasion, if we have strong feelings about a product, good or bad. This could be from a tent to a telescope... could be a telescope in a tent for all we know.

Early spring jerkbait bass fishing. Megabass vision OneTen was the only lure used. Hope you enjoy.
First bass fishing trip of 2024

This is a really short video (should be good for those out there that have thirty second attention spans) of our fist bass fishing trip of the 2024 season here in Maine. The water was in the 40's and the fish were pretty slow moving. The wind was blowing pretty hard and it was cold out there! We gave it a go for a bit and were rewarded with some early season fish. Always a good time.

Using the vision OneTen to great affect for smallmouth here in Maine. My friend Steve is along for the ride. As a former pro fisherman he's never used jerk baits before so he is in for a learning curve.
Spinnerbait Maine Bass Fishing

A great day out spinnerbait fishing. We ran out of time as usual but there were a lot of fish caught and even though they are not as popular as they once were, spinnerbaits are some of the best baits you can use. Period. Hope you enjoy!
Maine Bass Fishing with shorter days

Short days means quick after work trips out fishing before dark. We got a few before it got dark.

A quick but fun late season bass fishing run here in Maine. It was a great outing, chilly, but the fishing was quite good. Hopefully you enjoy!

Early October here in Maine and we had a short bit of time to get out for some bass fishing. Not a lot of fish caught but not a lot of time either! Worked out though.

Well, we got to 98 percent but we didn't want to fight the masses to see 100%. Too Much chaos. So, a cup of coffee and some of my astro gear got us this video. It was a great time and the coffee was great too. Wasn't a case of 100% totality or bust!
Spinnerbait Bass

The fall is on its way and the water is chilling down. Great Maine small pond bass fishing after work. All they wanted really was a spinnerbait and that is ok with me. When the water temps get into the 60's, nothing beats a spinnerbait. A fun and relaxing evening as always.
Largemouth Maine Bass!

Some really nice fish caught on this day. Not a lot of fish, but most were of really good quality. Excellent and fun time out with Anne Marie.

Fly fishing for smallmouth bass after Hurricane Lee passed by here in Maine. The smallmouth fishing was quite good and especially for this body of water whereas this place can be tough! On some days, one fish is considered good! Hope you enjoyed.

A kinda sucky night bass fishing! You take the good with the bad sometimes.
Wasn’t sure if a person was able to lay down on the bow on one of these but I guess you can lol
lol you can!
We heat 2000 ft² with two Rangelys for the past 4 years for 99% primary heating. Both have worked well. The top lod is never used; too small opening; the front load whether N-s or E-W is fine., The gaskets have held up. OOnly the latch for the front door needs replacing, it's 'shaky' after years of heavy use. Great product. Now discontinued model.
Thank you the comment. I’d heard that they were really well made. This winter will be our first use since I built the hearth and did all of the stone work over the last few months. Glad they have worked out so well for you!
lol. No fish were hurt in this catch
Ah nope!
No life jackets? With wife n kid? Come on dude
Everyone in that boat are almost 50 years old. No kids. They are there, just out of camera. Thank you for the comment.
I love when you both can spend time together. It’s so rare these days.
Thank you. It is rare these days sadly but it is so important. We all need down time and relaxation. Thank you for the comment.
Way to go fellow Mainer! While you are out there catching bass, I am still trying to convince myself that I can catch trout. 😅 I will be out bass fishing soon..... just a few more weeks of trout failures!
Trout failures! Been there done that! I’m a terrible trout fisherman. I do try sometimes… but it’s ugly. Thanks for the comment fellow Mainer! Good luck!
The AT70ED is and excellent scope for astrophotography. I’ve used one over 5 years . Great bang for the buck.
They sure are!
I just got one of these boat and the cables for both the choke and actual throttle are rusted really badly and I can’t get a part number off of them if there is by any chance you could send me the part numbers of both please and thank you
Well, my boat throttle and outboard are for a fuel injection setup so there is no choke. I’m pretty sure we don’t have the same set up. I would call the engine manufacturer with a vin #. In sure they can help you with your parts question.
Looking to get one of these how many people have you had on it at once? I’m between this and the 1860
Four is the max I’ve had. Handled just fine. Either boat is a great option. I went with this due to its size and maneuverability. The deck and openness of the 1860 is pretty impressive though. Maybe it comes down to the cost in the end?
@@GrumpyInMaine1 Thanks for the reply I wont have more than 4 I just didn't know how well it did with 4 people. I do like the size of the 1860 just not so much the extra money.
Looks like a good time. What part of Maine do you fish ? I am near Ellsworth .
It is a lot of fun all the while relaxing, which is the best these days. Been to Ellsworth more than once. Very pretty out that way. We are in southern Maine area. Near-ish to Newfield.
@@GrumpyInMaine1 Hope you have a great season. :)
@@GreyGhost120 Thank you! It has started off rather crappy so it can only go up from here. I hope your year is good one too!
@@GrumpyInMaine1 I haven't even had a bite yet hahahaha
Nice.
Thank you.
I’ve had one for three years now. I agree with you.
Well I am glad that I am not the only out there that likes this boat for all of what it is and frankly, for what it isn't. Thank you for commenting.
In honesty I clicked just to see the cat. :)
lol… he’s obnoxious!
Hello sir..is that okuma ceymar reel?
It is. I am pretty sure that is the C40. I have had nothing but excellent luck with them and for the money I think that they are fantastic.
Thanks for the review. I just got the AT102ED, and love the scope. Quality product for a fair price. Look forward to hear your experience with astrophotography; I am slowly working my way to do that.
Thanks for the watch and comment. Congrats on the 102! Slowly is a good approach to AP as it gets pricey quickly. The price point is excellent on the AT line up as the quality is there. I think that they are some of the best deals going.
Well!…. I can honestly say, I bloody well enjoyed that review. Thanks.
Well, thank you! I appreciate that very much. Next one is the review on the same scope for astrophotography use. Hope that one is as well received! Thanks again!
This spot looks soo peaceful. Super jealous. Great video.
Thank you for the comment. It is peaceful. We rarely go to busy places with heavy boat traffic and such. Really just like to relax and enjoy the outdoors. I’ll take a small quiet place over a mobbed and busy one any day!
I could "feel" the evening through the screen... starting off in lighter clothes.... sun dips behind the mountain, heavier layer of hoodies comes out.... nothing like summer evenings in Maine!
Thank you for commenting. Yeah, the temps drop fast some nights. I have to say that summer evenings in Maine are really wonderful. Combine it with fishing of any kind just makes it that much better.
@GrumpyInMaine1 Amen brother! Summer evenings in Maine are so beautiful!
True! Now if there was something that could be done about Maine WINTER evenings....!
@@GrumpyInMaine1 We could try boycotting them.... works for everyone else in all sorts of situations.

Thank you for the kind words!
Nice work . Enjoyed watching, plus relaxing music. I just subscribed to your channel. Tight lines and keep it coming.
Well thank you very much for subscribing and for the compliments! It really does mean a lot to us. Tight lines to you as well!
@@GrumpyInMaine1 thank you
Very nice catches! Loved this video, the quiet and commentated fishing was nice. What camera do you use?
Thank you for the compliments! I use mainly the DJI OSMO action 3. I do have other cameras... most likely too many lol, but that is the one that I use the most. Also, thank you for noticing the quiet approach we take. We are hoping to maybe bring a little peace and serenity to anyone who stops by if we can. Sometimes I think we are all moving too fast and we forget to slow down. Thank you again.
Yal really broke in a motor . When you buy a car do you drive around at slow speeds in traffic till it is broke in . No you get in sit down an drive it like you stole it . Break in times are waist of time . If it is going to break it’s going to break regardless.
Broke it in per mercury recommendations and break in schedule. Where all data is stored in the module for the outboard, if there was an issue in the future I would want them NOT to be able to try to blame me for not following their recommended break in guidelines and stick me with a repair bill. It was a C.Y.A scenario. But thank you for the comment!
Good thing you followed the break in guidelines. I know several people who didn't, only to have their warranties voided. Each motor has a computer that records your speed and time! @@GrumpyInMaine1
Hi, I’m your son’s best mate, I love your fishing videos they’re so entertaining 💪🏼

Not a Striper. Not subbing 😂
Dang. Well, to be honest, we don't have a lot of stripers in our ponds here! Lol.
@@GrumpyInMaine1 gotta come out to the Maine coast brotha
I used to fish for stripers at the spurwink years back and out in the bay off of rte 88. Lots of fun! Been a long time since I’ve been out for them though.
nice fish man i answered your comment on your last vid
As always, thank you for the comment. We uploaded since the storm is today here (we filmed last night) and I thought it was kinda time sensitive or it would have not come out until December. Too late.
nice fish man hope all is going well for you
It has been off and on. Weather is all over the place and so goes the fishing. Thank you for the comment as always. Your fishing improve down there?
@@GrumpyInMaine1 was wanting to go but va is on the rag i swear one day its cold one day its hot one day it snows a bit one day it rains cant ever get the right day to go on really lol but keep up the good work and by chance did you look in to googan rods and reels ?
If you can find the fish once they don't really move much even one season to the next, they just change what they are looking for to bite. Try topwater, Texas rigged worms, Neko rigs, spinnerbaits and jigs. Find what they are looking for and then build a system off of that. I haven't had time to try any new baits or rods and reels other than replacing one that I broke. I am looking into baits later this week though as the fall bite will be changing things and I am out of things from last year.
@@GrumpyInMaine1 i feel that i have not broke a rod yet thank god knock on wood but also im thinking about trying to get on youtube as well just dont have the funs to really put in to it i just turned 21 last may and man its been a hard life so far i cant work so try to get up on my feet just glad to see people doing what they love
@@skyleryates4076 Getting on UA-cam isn’t hard. You don’t need anything more than a phone these days and just start making videos. You don’t need complex things that cost a lot to start. What you need is the passion and the desire to do it. There are a lot of videos on here that can show you how to get up and going. Life can be hard for sure but it also changes all of the time too and sometimes it’s a change for the better. I certainly hope yours changes for the better. But as far as UA-cam goes, don’t think you can’t do it, like I said, it’s not that hard to get started. To eventually get to where things look better and sounds better it takes practice.
peaceful
Thank you. Really appreciate the comment. We are going for peaceful in these videos.
first to watch and like and comment lol good job on your trip man i cant get anything to hit in va trying all the tricks rn lol
Thank you! The bass are starting to hit on smaller offerings up here and topwater baits. Imperceptible fall transition taking place.
@@GrumpyInMaine1 ill keep that in mind ty
back at it one more time i see lol va is a bit cold atm so im go for some big cats down here keep up the good work man hope you make it big on here btw i would like you to try to googan green rods they are amazing to me would like to hear your thoughts on them
I use googan swim baits with under spin heads quite frequently but haven’t tried green rods. I’ll look them up. Thank you for the encouragement and the kind words. Good luck on your catfish adventure! Ours up here are too small to be fun sadly. Lol. Not like down where you are!
@@GrumpyInMaine1 the rods are the best i have found for bass fishing they feel super nice and there baits i use every time i go fishing and there back pack they make full of all there stuff
Interesting… I’ll look into them. Thanks again for the heads up, I’d never heard of them before.
@@GrumpyInMaine1 hey me one more time can you do reviews ?? on a reel for me i need to know if its good for a starting out bass fisher men its the 13 FISHING - Origin R1 if you can that would be amzing if not its ok
I have only done one review so far. In the future I will be doing many reviews. I can say that I know that 13 fishing makes pretty good stuff. I also know that for the money, they are excellent. The question is what type of reel are you looking to get? Baitcasting? Spinning? What type of water do you fish? Baits that you throw? There are a lot of things to think about and it can get complicated with purchasing fishing gear. It can also be very simple as well, get the best you can afford, take care of it and fish the hell out of it. Then when you re ready, get something else. I do many types of fishing so I have a lot of rods. 27 total. Baitcasting, spinning, tenkara and western fly. They all have a place. What are you wanting to do bass fishing wise?
You are the luckiest man ALIVE !!!!
Lol. Did I win something? Lottery?
A sweet honey fishing pal,....you should know !!!!!!@@GrumpyInMaine1
She’s wonderful lady for sure!
what kind of rod and reel are you throwing the chop O on ? btw keep up the good work man
Depends. I use a bass pro medium heavy 7’ with a bass pro bait caster. Usually spooled with 20lb braid. Other times it’s a 2pc shimano convergence medium heavy with 15lb Diawa j braid on a abu Garcia black max bait caster reel. The 2 pc is great when you want to save space. Thank you for the question and the nice comment!
@@GrumpyInMaine1 no problem man hope you night is going well
nice catches, they just did'nt want to eat it much!
This is true. You try and try and sometimes they just don’t play ball. Just got back a few minutes ago from smallmouth fishing… got two but the rest sat and watched us go by. I missed the lunch rush I think.
Thank you! Appreciate the comment.
Great video awesome action! There's nothing like a Topwater bite. 👍🤙🎣
That’s for sure. For all of the jigs and wacky worms out there nothing gets you going like a top water strike! Thank you for the comment!
@@GrumpyInMaine1 indeed, YW! 🤙👍🎣
What is the top speed with the 75hp?
Hi, Sorry for slow reply. UA-cam doesn't want to let me know when there is a comment. According to a speedometer app it does around 37 with two people in it without too much gear.I have not tried it solo with nothing else in the boat.
Ah, that makes sense. We are headed out this morning in it so I will be checking out where they mounted the engine. The prop that I have on it is the one from Merc at the moment and I have no idea what the pitch is lol. I will however copy the info you gave regarding the Laser 2 , 19 pitch prop. If the motor can go lower I will look into that for an "over winter" project. We are taking it out today as we changed plans for yesterday so I will be checking where it is mounted shortly. Breakfast and coffee first or nothing else matters. Once again, thank you for the insight from someone who owns the same setup.
I have the exact same setup. I'm assuming the engine is installed 1 hole or 3/4" high. Do yourself a favor and have cabelas/basspro drop the engine down as low as it can go and if money permits, get a 19 Pitch stainless prop. Laser 2 to be specific. It will completely change how the boat handles for the better. Be quicker and more stable.
Wow. Well, thank you for that. I will check that later today. I would have assumed (we know how assumptions can work out) that they would have installed it right the first time. I have noticed that it cavitates easily when I try to trim it up from the lowest setting on the power trim. Hmmm. I appreciate the advice there. Thank you... much appreciated!
@@GrumpyInMaine1 that is exactly why I had them drop it down and the 1 hole difference did wonders on handling and top speed. Mercury recommends the 20" shaft engine to be mounted on a 20" transom height for the speed that engine can run. Your transom is 21" so you can only get so close.
@@michaeldurand9788 Yup.It is not mounted all of the way down. It is indeed mounted in the second hole down from the top.
@@GrumpyInMaine1 i called Tracker myself asking why they didn't have the engine setup the way Mercury recommends and I was told "we had the vessel certified with a 40hp engine". A 40hp and 75hp are 2 completely different animals at full rip and they did not care. They didn't even warranty the labor for dropping it down to as close as it needed to be.
@@michaeldurand9788 Wow. Well, that is disturbing actually. I would think that since they are the ones that produce the boat and offer it with the 75 that they would use the data for the specific engine when they mount it to the boat. One size doesn't always fit all. We really appreciate the info you've provided. I will be looking into this with Mercury and also Tracker Marine.
