XGC 3.0 Vpin Drive Upgrade for 1.0 XGC Cabs!
This is just a quick teaser video on the new 3.0 Vpin Drive Upgrade from Xtreme Gaming cabinets. I will be doing a longer review video along with upgrading to leaf switch flipper buttons and a dead solenoid replacement, but I didn't want to wait any longer to let XGC Vpin owners hear in the USA that the new drive is available and working as expected.

      @@TinaRoberts-k2e super easy, 2 screws, two wires. I’ll be doing it in the follow up video to show the process. The part number is printed on the solenoid, so it’s easy to get the exact part. The only thing I would love to see happen with the drives is for Darryl to leave the cabinet, DOF and DOFLinx file non hidden and open on the E: drive. Or those of us who are a little more experienced can ask for them, for things like Pinball FX or the capability to update table lighting and all that. You can very painfully figure it out by playing with the software, but it still would be nice.

    • @andrew21742

      @@ShaneDocPuff for people that are capable, there’s nothing stopping them from setting up a brand new drive, running baller installer themselves and copying the tables from the unprotected portion of the drive. In fact almost all of the drive can be copied and then you can play with it until your hearts content, and you’ll still have a working drive you can plug back in and use should you have problems. I have no desire to do that. I tried twice to build my own machine and both times I got so frustrated making it all work together. I spent more time futzing with it than I did getting to play pinball. My kids messed it up every time they touched it. That’s why I went with XGC, I just want it to work. In my opinion it would be crazy for XGC to provide machine with the drive unlocked, they’d spend all their time trying to fix whatever someone screwed up and not building peoples machines. There’s just no way they can support that. I do believe at some point in the future XGC will offer access to an update server to add tables and fixes, but I don’t think we’ll see it until they get through the back log of orders and have time to get it all worked out and solid.

      @@andrew21742 I agree, that Xtream is a fantastic out-of-the-box system, but as you dive deeper into the hobby, more support would be beneficial. I’ve tried to customize the files myself and learned a lot about DOF, but having a clear hardware layout would help those who want to create their own files while keeping the C: Drive secure. I’m also curious about the sound setup; I have an unlocked 1.5 drive I use for my cabinet but finding a straightforward solution is tough. While you could opt for a USB sound card, the goal is to have something ready to use and updatable. His SSF setup is very, I don't know... Some newer tables may require DOF updates, and if you want to use Zen's FX3 without hacks along with using FX's DOFLinx, you're limited. It comes to a point you should just build your own if the work becomes too much. Ultimately, if you're considering building from scratch, I recommend the Cleveland software kit for a seamless setup that includes support for FX/FX3 without any hacks. I used it on an older home cabinet I built. To sell it I wanted to upgrade it and use Cleveland software to help sell it with all the toys. Thanks for letting me ramble. And once again you are right...

The other reason is that it makes the cab significantly lighter to move. @@Busa-power I know they are heads down trying to put the final polish on 3 different systems, the light gun drive, the 32tb beast arcade drives, and the newest VPin release. After the issues with Integrum Retro not following through on updating the drives and providing support XGC decided to pull all that back in-house and do it themselves. Since they are a relatively small mostly family run business it’s easy to get heads down and focused on something. Since you’ve gotten your final invoice that means they’ve started production on your machines. It can still take a couple months once production starts depending on what you have chosen for your builds. Also, I’m sure since the updated vpin drive is so close they are holding releases until that’s complete. My suggestion would be to call Donna in the morning. Seems like 10am Queensland time is a pretty good time to reach her. I don’t leave voicemails when I call because I know how busy they are, I just keep trying until I reach her, but she will answer if she’s not on another call, I’ve never had an issue of not being able to get her on the phone. AND… most importantly, I’m not aware of a single person saying XGC took their money and didn’t deliver, that’s not who they are. They build the best stuff out there and because of that they are very very popular. It’s difficult for a small business to ramp up production and still maintain the quality they are known for, but they are actually doing a good job with that. So… don’t worry, your machines will get built and delivered.

I could have called XGC and they would have warranted it, but it was just way faster to go to my local NAPA and grains for $8 and replace it. The only thing I don’t like about my VPIN is that it’s not the new version 2.0 cab. The newest version is so nice as far as the screen tilt and how everything is now labeled internally. • @andrew21742
      @andrew21742 7 місяців тому

      So, the simple answer is yes. XGC provides you a drive that is unlocked so that you can download and add new tables without messing up your machine. However, what I’m referring to in the video is a little different. When ever I play a table on the Cab that I haven’t played yet, I go out on my pc and download the table and leave a comment for the table creator so they get the feed back for the download. I’m not sure I’m still making sense… lol. So let me give you an example. Let’s say I just got my machine brand new from XGC, and the first table I play is Monster Bash. I can see when the table boots which version it is so I write that down in my notebook, then once I’m done playing I go to my PC, not the vpin, and download that table and leave a comment. So the creator gets the feedback. I didn’t install anything new to the XGC machine yet, but the creator still gets the download and the feed back. Clear as mud? LoL

You could open the door during a game and physically move the Bob over to touch the ring and see if it tilts. If it’s not working you’ll want to contact XGC before you do anything else with that. There could be a wire off or something else that’s a simple solution. As for the video stuff with popper, I usually only see that when you start a new table before the system has reset after exiting a previous table. This is a popper thing and not anything particular to XGC’s build. You want to make sure after you exit a table you do not launch a different table until DOF resets. You’ll be able to tell when this is because the LEDs will start going again. Then you can launch a new table. Depending on the table you were exiting this time can vary. @andrew21742 Рік тому

      It’s a custom controller I made using the XGC 2n1 arcade controller as inspiration. With VR you need a keyboard attached to your Vpin. I didn’t want my kids having access to a keyboard, but I wanted them to be able to play without me needing to be there every second to make sure nothing got messed up. So I used a iPac board and mapped just the keys you need for VR to buttons. The round openings are where you put the Oculus controllers when you aren’t using them. I have about 30mins of video shot for my VR update video, but my Oculus Rift S is an “original”, meaning first batch and it isn’t playing well with the RTX 3080 graphics card that is included in the XGC Titan package. It works perfect in my older gaming Pc with a 2080Ti, but there are known driver issues with the 3080/3090, 4080/4090 RTX cards. Oculus support told me it was the link cable because it was first gen. I paid $170 to get the actual Oculus cable and that still didn’t resolve the issue. (Issue is the head set just turns off of locks up) I’ve tried extra USB power, and HDMI boost devices in line on the cable that have worked for some, but unfortunately not for me. So… the Vr video will be delayed until I get that resolved or switch to my Oculus Quest2. (My quest 2 has custom vision lenses installed for my vision correction and I don’t let the kids mess with that on.)

XGC is very upfront about the fact that all the software is free, except Bigbox which they buy an actual license for that you get with their arcade drives. They only charge for the hardware of the drive it’s self, and the hours they spend to make it work so flawlessly. Don’t spear this nonsense on my channel please. Got my 1.7 in, but there is a glitch, Darryl is saying that it looks like there is a driver issue, and one other customer is having issues as well. But Darryl is looking into it and he seems to always find the problems and get things to work. I originally had the 1.5 and it shipped that way, I upgraded to the 1.6 which had no issues. So staying on 1.6 for now until Darryle gets it working. Let me say I love this company and ordered a Beast machine from them and can not wait to get that, most likely this summer. If You can get Darryl talking he will tell you the world. I have to admit, with all the new changes they have made, I want to get another machine and sell my current one. Andrew, I had a quick question, though I'm not sure if there's any etiquette in asking this particular question. Are there tables included in a package like this, or would I have to source any tables I'd want on my own? I know the quality of just the parts and components are probably worth the price of admission, but I'm a "plug n' play" guy and wouldn't want to source out pins myself. I've gone the bargain basement route with AtGames and Arcade1up, because they offer plug n play solutions, but I kind of want to elevate to the big boys, but want that plug n play experience, especailly at the higher price tag. Thank you so much for your time :) vgv

      I get what you are saying, but the software on the machine is free. It’s free to download from many different sites and he doesn’t charge for it. What he charges for and protects is his time spent setting up the configuration of that software to work with the specific hardware of the machines he builds. There are builders in the US who sell Vpins for 10,000 that don’t include software, they include information on where to get a hard drive from overseas to run in the vPins they sell, and those hard drives don’t include things like DOF, or Pup Packs. XGC machines are the best production manufactured Vpins in the world, and like all things, you get what you pay for.

    • @andrew21742
      @andrew21742 Рік тому

      I need to be very careful with this response. So, they DO offer updated drives for sale to customers of XGC Vpin's only. They do not sell drives to the public, because frankly that would be pointless as they wouldn't work. The drives are locked down and configured specifically for the hardware XGC uses to build their machines. The updated drives still require XGC to dial in to each cabinet to do the final configuration before it will work. The drive is frozen/locked down in such a way that it's useless to anyone unless configured by XGC for a machine they've built. And still, the updated drives are simply done to bring the software such as VPX, DOF and BAM up to the latest version. Anyone with an XGC vpin can go grab the tables from any of the sites that offer them, they don't need to buy an updated drive. And you are 100% correct when you say XGC wouldn't sell as many pinball machines with out properly configured software on them... It's the rock solid configuration of a XGC vPin that people who just want to play pinball and not learn to install software love...

    • @andrew21742
      @andrew21742 Рік тому

      I don’t have video of that, but it’s very easy… 1) Remover the two screws holding the lockdown bar and slowly work it up and off of the machine. 2) unplug the wires from the select fire punch it button. I labeled mine to make sure they go back on the same way they came off. 3) remove the screw half way up the side rails that hold the glass down. It will be tight but the side rails will now be able to be moved up a little bit to make sliding the glass out easier. 4) remove the stop blocks that are screwed down under where the lock bar was that are holding the glass from sliding. 5) carefully slide the glass down and out of the cabinet. It’s heavier than you think. Set it somewhere safe. 6) open the coin door and reach in under the monitor and push it up about 4-5” and remove the power and video cable. I snapped a picture with my phone so I made sure the video cable was reinstalled back into the same port. 6) continue lifting the monitor out of the cabinet, and set it some where safe. Easier with two people. The monitor just sits on cross bars in the cab, there is nothing to unscrew on it to remove it. It’s a damn near perfect fit. Hope this helps, just reverse the steps to reinstall. For me it lightened the cab about 85 lbs for moving it.
