How on earth did they drive these buses via Bondi Junction via Bondi Beach & onto North Bondi - I hope this bus never travelled to Dover Heights! Shows how much I cared back then about hopping on an extra long extra chunky tri axle government bus. I didn't care I just ignored the bus everytime it went over an obstacle in the middle of the road such as a round about.

I can say first hand that the bus ride from Burwood to Chatswood is one of the TRULEY ICONIC and absolutely BREATHTAKING journeys in this country. A MUST DO for any traveler who seeks to experience the STUNNING Beauty and INPIRATIONAL SIGHTS along this LIFE CHANGING route,. Next time can you do a video on the WORLD FAMOUS 500 ~ Route from Parramatta to the city. BUS RIDES ARE THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!

These were advanced in their day. I caught one in 2013 after many years not riding any and was surprised to find it was quieter and smoother than the Waratahs I had become accustomed to.

Nice one mate! Cool to see a Burwood original still kicking around the same streets after all these years! For an unrefurbished bus, I must say I am impressed at the condition it is in and it sounded healthy despite being a little loud. I wouldn't be surprised if many Burwood Oranas make it to the magical 30 because they're the last TSA depot to get Electrics in Sydney. Great video mate, your bus videos are the most interesting of the videos you produce.

9850 is definitely one of the better sounding K280UBs in the Hillsbus fleet, but the real good ones are K310UBs, specifically 9515 and 9517.

So glad there’s a preserved set. I like that they have put the L7 logo on one and used the darker tuscan red on that one the way I remember them in their last years (not necessarily the L7 bit). I’m glad you use the red rattler term, purists get uptight about it but that was the the vernacular used.

2033 Leyland OPD2 at 7:50 looks really good in it’s professional paint job. I think the Leylands are my favourite of the green deckers. I particularly like Leyland preselect 2761. Nice coverage of this sweet event.

The old Scania were at Tempe. I have driven 3803 and 3809 for work. We miss them at Tempe. 3820 was my favoured bus from all of them. They were quick in service and relaxing to drive.

Nice one mate I was meant to go but had to pull out last minute, I was requested to extend my shift into overtime last minute the night prior so by the time I got home the sun was rising and the tour was in a matter of hours. Anyway glad you all had fun

These buses were very controversial when introduced by STA because they were actually illegal but the STA was given an exemption and permitted to have them registered when Westbus were unable to register their 14.5 vehicles which they had in storage. The routes for these buses had to be approved by the RTA which meant each depot had to trial the bus on each route to determine their suitability and I had the privilege to do this for Ryde depot whilst accompanied by the senior driving instructor who was a passenger and the person who determined which routes were suitable. This process took many days as each route had to be trialled in both directions and we both enjoyed every minute of it even when we almost got stuck on the bridge at West Ryde because the right turn off the bridge was almost impossible to negotiate. These buses had the capability for high speed running which I discovered when my partner in crime produced a key which activated the "highway diff" and said" Newcastle, here we come." We had to stop our high speed journey (100kph) when we realised the tyres were not rated for speed and were (suburban) only. The BCA (bus and coach association) protested profusely and threatened legal action against the government on behalf of Westbus whose 14.5 buses were still in storage. Westbus was approved to follow the same procedure as STA for route approval and their buses were registered. The first Westbus 14.5 vehicles were tapered inwards at the back in order to prevent tailswing damage and did not have the Orana body. I loved driving these STA buses and they had a very audible rattle from the tag axel which you may have noticed on your journey. Excellent presentation, well done Sam 👍👏

These buses also have slight differences to the 2nd batch euro 3s with a larger exhaust pipe, Evo 2 cb60 interior lights aswell as the new Volvo dash and steering wheel.

I liked how informative this video was and I find it impressive that the engine is 340hp especially with the knowledge that most B8RLEs only have 280hp plus the governors which slow them down drastically. Nothing beats a beasty B12! And can we acknowledge how the bus has over 1 million km and looked in very clean condition for its age and useage?

another thing is (may have been done later) But i have seen 2nd batch buses in V1 livery before with and without the red stripe. I also noticed a yellow handle on the emergency window which is very rare for euro 3 since it normally black. the yellow handle is usually for the (I think) 2nd batch euro 5

one of the very few left of transdev, recently 1575 went to u-go, i remember catching it on 343 the day before it left transdev. since the oranas left, these are the buses I now hope to get when getting transdev buses
